Due to the excessive heat, Tri-City Speedway is canceled for this Friday, June 29th.

Do us a favor Ricky get a 3 layer firesuit and sit in the stands for just an hour Saturday, maybe you will understand why Gundaker is concerned with drivers safety. Many will still go, but it's just not a good time...

I'm sure Gundaker doesn't like closing the track, but with a forecasted heat factor of 110 this is the right thing to do for drivers, crews, and fans.

OK I don't actually blame KG for canceling but imo if you are a die hard fan and a true racer it does NOT ever get to hot for dirt racing period. I do understand about the danger of being out in the heat especially in a race car but still yet I think that it just DOES NOT GET TOO HOT FOR DIRT RACING
tri-CITY has canceled I-55 will not cancel tell me what is the difference.

Ricky Brown........Because back in the day things were different. People weren't lawsuit happy, were healthier, and racetracks weren't financially struggling. Today the track can get sued for any and every thing. Many fans are older, the younger ones drink a lot more alcohol, some are obese, some take prescription drugs and some take non prescription drugs. None of these factors interact very well with extreme heat. Because of this, the race track must consider it's liability to both spectators and fans. Furthermore, racetracks today struggle to pay the bills when a decent crowd shows up and can't pay the bills when a light crowd (as there will be Friday) does.

For Christ sake man, let it go. All factors considered cancelling is the smart thing to do from the fan and participant aspect to the financial health of the track. I'm not a driver, but I sponsor and crew (by myself) on a car every weekend. I've been doing it for 15 years. I've seen and done everything from hell to high water. I'm about as die hard as they come with all I do for the sport. I don't want to be out there in the heat & humidity Friday. It is no fun when it's this hot. And in my opinion, yes, sometimes it does get too hot for dirt track racing. My driver is 70 years old and we would be there if they raced. I would be very concerned for our safety if we did. I'm very glad they cancelled.

Also back in the day those guys raced in a tee- shirt and genes half a helment and a bandana real tuff guys back then alot more fire safty now would be very dangerous to race in these temps

This is about having fun right? I have been involved with a car since the late 80's. 20 yr old me didn't care about the heat. I work in it daily and I'll tell you 54 yr old me hates it.

Hey how ya'll doin listen after I sat down with myself and thought about it I do think that if you can't handle this kind of heat then maybe you should stay where it cooler. I'm not without compassion I understand that some people can not handle this heat some old people some that have health issues should stay out of the heat
Now for me ONLY I will be there
Sometimes people make mistakes like me I'm human

Sitting in a firesuit in direct sun for an hour is not an accurate comparison. The drivers are out there for a short time. Yes it would of been extremely hot this is a money saver.

You're right, it's not an accurate comparison. For a driver in a car it is much worse. Short time...Ha-Ha. You get strapped in and sit in staging for 20 minutes with a 400 degree header pumping heat and fumes into the cockpit from both sides, no breeze, full face helmet and gloves. Then you go out and try to manhandle a 2300 lb. race car on a rough track while being jostled and bounced around for about 10-15 more minutes. Not what I would call a short time, and it's a workout, unlike sitting in the stands doing nothing. Not to mention trying to remember to breath and getting enough oxygen is a chore.

So Ricky Brown, were you planning on driving up to Tri City tomorrow night from Poplar Bluff, or did you just want to bitch in general?

My post go back and read it wasn't about tri-CITY canceling it was about tracks in general canceling because of extreme heat and remember I said as far as ME it don't get too hot for ME.
On another note a couple of you might get a laugh out of this. I went outside to go up to town I'm backing out I hear a noise look in my mirror and because of the heat my back window busted out

Mean old ignorant guy...I know, I did it for years. Adrenaline took over on the track didnt feel the heat, hot in staging no doubt, but keep hydrated and stay cool in between racing you will be ok, unless you are 70 then idk. But lets not act like this is done because of concern for drivers and fans, concern about fans not showing up. About the bottom dollar point blank period. Which I understand.
