so i guess the track was in great shape last night like it always seems to be and no one has any complaints? i have been to alot of races at tri city after massive rain storms and that track last night was not what it has been before. i dont care if you cover for kevin or tammy, i know i have seen alot of rain on that track the day before an event like that and a lot better track...
also where were the nascar guys that were supposed to run their own feature, or was that just a tactic to get more people to the track?

People showed up for the Lucas Oil Late Models, not the NASCAR gimmick race. Considering how choppy the track was, it was probably a good idea to not run the "celebrity race".

We all saw them out there trying to rework the track to get it right. They were trying. Do you have any ideas on how they can do it better? Kevin is a big boy, I'm sure he can handle criticism. Can we atleast try to make it constructive?

We all saw Kevin try to make the track better but remember it is dirt and in the end its gonna do what it wants to do.I thought they made a good call to run the feature when they did cause i think that the track was the best it was gonna be at that point. At least they made an effort to fix it i have been to many places where after they run it in they never even touch it again.

They did everything they could to the track to deal with the issues in turns three and four. The Lucas Oil drivers race on dirt tracks all across the country and they know that there are going to be nights like this when there has been a lot of rain in the area. I would be willing to bet that they would rate the effort of the Tri-City officials among the best of all of the tracks that they race at.

I understand why they had to push the Lucas Oil show through for the Speed Channel but I was disappointed with how the 50/50 drawing was handled. I thought they would do it right after the Lucas Oil feature because people were starting to leave but they didn't. Around 11:30, I went to the ticket window and asked the lady there about it and she told me that the numbers were sent out over a half hour ago and they just hadn't announced it yet. During a yellow, I got the attention of the gate man in turn four and asked him, he got on the radio and asked the tower. He told me that they would announce the number right after the race that was on the track, the Street Stock feature I think. I want to thank the lady at the ticket window and the official at the turn four gate for being more than willing to help me out. I hope to see more good shows like this at Tri-City in the future.

seems as though you must know alot about dirt, so why dont you just offer some of your free time to go help with the track prep. oh wait I guess its easier to get on here and b***h about things. I am pretty sure that regardless of what the track was like before when it rained has no reflection on how the track was last night, its always going to be different depending on how long the water stays on the track and if the track surface was worked up or already run in, maybe you should talk to someone that works on heavy equipment with dirt everyday before you start your childish complaining. jmo

Kulkul3, I dont think the man said anything about him doing any better. The track was crap so be it. Also by the end of your post you started showing your intelligence. Why dont you go and help out the gundakers since it seems you know what the problem was.

i guess none of you have ever been to i55 i have save them re work the whole track when it went to sh** like that and it only took about 45 min to 1hr. so i think kevin could have worked a little harder to get in shape.

i agree

i agree with racinfri the track could of been alot better. it seems like the track has been going to s*** the last month. it just seems like every Fri. it gets worse

they have had a ton of rain threw the week and it takes time to work the track. kevin and any track owner dont like to see a rough track. they cant control mother nature so qiut ur *****en and be thankful we got a race track to go and watch the big guys and local boys run.

Its funny that Im pretty sure that there was another post about this same thing I believe it was 5 bucks that started it and everybody jumped on him also about how he doesn't know what he is talking about and this and that. Some one else said " I guess after tonight this post will be dead" I bet that person really feals silly. I have seen some great races at tri-city this year including regular nights but last night wasn't good. Three flats during qualifying and Moyer had to pull off for some reason. I would guess that he also had a flat or something broke. It seems as though everyone wants to defend something that doesn't need defending. Bottom line it wasn't a good track. I just don't see anyone saying anything about another track not being up to par. Not to say that tri-city is a bad track by any means. Don't fool yourself. Again tri-city is a good track but some of you are argueing a fact that you can't argue, the track was very rough and was not racey.

The track wasn't the best, but i've seen worse. At least no one loaded up like they've done before. By the way the track was awesome for the SN race.

I love how every week somebody has something to complain about. The racetrack was too rough. I don't think you can go to a racetrack week after week and it's perfect everytime. As a race car driver you know the race track is not always gonna be perfect and smooth. My dad will do whatever he can to make the best out of what he has and if it's not perfect then you deal with it. I have seen the best race car drivers from across the country come through tri-city in the last year. What more can you ask for? I just don't know how people can get on here and complain when they haven't been there for a week to have to deal with all the rain and then have to try and make a great racetrack. I would like to see all the people that complain go out and make a perfect racetrack week in and week out and then deal with all the people that complain about it not being perfect one night.

Gordy Gundaker

Aside from the other cars/drivers, aren't the inconsistencies of DIRT part of the challenge? This is what makes dirt so intriguing to many. The drivers with versatility and experience will shine. Those without will get in where they fit in. Rest assured that the track crew did all they could do with what they had to work with. I believe you need to take it up with mother nature if you have a problem with precipitation (or lack of), wind or temperature. Now, if they didn't even make an effort to prepare the track, you might have a reason to whine and I'd be right there with you. As for running late, look at all the entertainment you got for the $. Bet you would have also whined if the races were over by 9pm saying "we got robbed". Although I believe they are truly great folks, I'm not just sticking up for the Gundakers, but any owner/promoter who opens themselves up to this complaint fest. In closing, I'd like to reference a post from the past by t.nie(without permission of course), and hope that all complaints could kind of follow along these lines: The cars are too fast, the track too smooth, the food too good, the cars too shiny, and last but not least, the beer is too cold.......Keep up the good work Mr & Mrs G and don't let the whiners discourage you. Greg

Mars, Birkofer, Smith and Feger personally told me they had a blast on THAT track . Birky and Mars both said they waited too long to make their move and other than that it was fine with them . So racinfri if the guys that race were fine what does it matter to you ? If they reworked the track we would have been there until 2:30 and would have ended up with a similar track .

Not one Late Model driver thought the track was bad enough to load up and leave? Lap after lap, Babb kept running in the same area where the rut was. He kept taking a chance and it reached up and bit him.

I will be the first to tell you that every night, reg. weekly race or any big race this year the track was good if not great! But for me personally to agree that the track was bad is not necessarily whining. If you are gonna tell me that these guys enjoyed racing on that you are crazy. That is not to say that the guys who found somewhat success on that track wasn't pleased with the outcome. I am saying that it by far was not a racey track like I have seen before. And if anyone says that I am whining or bashing anyone including Kevin or Tammy can think again. I think that it is one of the better tracks and I believe that they are fair with the way they make judgements. But I will voice my opinion as discussion. I don't claim to know anything about track prep, but you also have to realize that this is a forum and that is what it is used for. DISCUSSION. So don't get all defensive and start calling anyone a whiner when you don't agree with what someone has to say.

When you're comparing Tri-city to I-55, remember that the two aren't using the same kind of dirt. That "Mississippi Gumbo" that TCS uses seems to be a bit softer than the stuff at Pevely.

Too many classes.

They should have not ran all the other classes along with the Lucas cars. I didn't pay $25.00 to watch the average joe weekly racer. Modifieds and Super latemodels is all they needed to run. THEN you would have had time to work the track like it needed to be within the time limit available. People should not be at a track till past 1:00am to see a race. That's ridiculous. If they want to make more money all they need to do is sell smokes. I've never seen so many hoosier chain smoking people in my life than I did at Tri-City. Looks like the bar hoppers that can't smoke at their favorite place now hang out and drink and smoke at the race track.

Wait a minute!

I'm a nonsmoker that really dislikes smoking in the grandstands. However, I saw no more smoking this week at TCS than I do any other week at any other track.

Secondly, It's Joe Weekly Racer that gives Lucas Oil Racer a platform in which to race. Without Joe Weekly Racer, tracks would not survive and the Lucas Oil Tour would go out of business.

Let's break down the Math. 46 Lucas Oil Late Models x 4 crew per team (including driver, rough estimate) = 184 pit passes. Let's be generous and say 200 pit passes.

200 pit passes x $35 = $7000

32 Modifieds x 4 pit passes per entry = 128 pit passes. We'll be generous and say 150.

150 pit passes x $35 = $5250

$7000 + $5250 = $12,250 Not nearly enough to cover the purse for even the Late Models, let alone both classes.

Don't bring up admission because you really want to cover as much of the purse as possible in pit passes.
