TriCity VS Gateway

UPDATE...The power is on at gateway,it was restored at 2 a.m. last night.Yes, we will be there, it's all the big league racing we have!

I have a question for all of the great racing minds on here. Last week, I was reading the Breese Journal. The have a column that covers some of the high points in local news twenty-five years ago. It reported that on July 5, 1985 it was announced during intermission at Tri-City Speedway that it was the last night for racing at the track. The track would be closed and put up for sale. Is this when Bob Wente bought the track? If yes, who did he buy it from?

If I have my timeline right, the track reopened either later that year or early the next with Vince Girardi as the promoter. In 1989, Harry Alton (a Springfield,IL trucking company owner) bought the track and hired Dennis Hicks to promote the weekly shows, and Bob Wente brought his special events promotions over from St. Charles Speedway. The following year, the track went exclusively to special events with Bob Wente as the promoter. A few years later, Bob bought the track and brought in a weekly program at the urging of the local racing community. He then sold to the Gundaker family earlier this decade.

I presonally don't know why you would blame Gateway for something that was clearly NOT their fault. Mr. Hermasin the new manager and the staff are doing a great job to try and get more events for the fans.
I am actually Glad they had the power outtage...I had tickets to the truck race but went to Tri City for the Lucas Oil Late Models (Great Night Of Racing @ Tri City !!) Now I get to see 2 races the Craftsman Truck Series AND the Nationwide race all in one day.

I had a great time besides that. But man..they do need to fix that. Not only to get the races done.....but security reasons as well. That track is located in a not so freindly place. You get people hot.....some drunk.......and little lighting....boy your asking for a mess. And it was getting pretty bad when we left and im glad we did. Not to mention the Illinois State Police directing traffic to go towards East St.Louis that late at night. I told the cop and i quote..."Sir...im going down that road(203) 1/2 a mile and im making a U turn. Im not dragging my daughter and me through East St.Louis at 10ish o clock at night for reasons im sure you and your partners here are truly aware of." I got...tha look...lol. But they were cool about it. Ill go back next year if i get tickets......just for the atmosphere.

Just dont understand what if the power went out during the race !! Would really think as hard as Nascar pushes safety they would make sure that senerio was covered .

Well Hound why don't you invest in a backup system for Gateway and the next time the power goes out the race can go on. And you can say we are racing tonight because of me DIRTHOUND and if you would like you can stand and give me around of applase for being such a great gay.

if a local track like tri city can run generators not back up but run full system than wehy can't the big track hmmmm and really I don't give a ratz butt I was at local track supporting them

To FAST 68: Been well, thanks for askin'. Back at Tri City on Fridays with Donnie McElroy and having a blast! How have you been?

Been good.......where ya been??Lol. How are you doing???
I been blessed. Boy and I often go to the races...still miss it..lol I read most all the post on here...love the bench racing. Had a blast here while back at Brownstown with John Seets. Seems like times been a blur. Look me up some night when your at the track. I'm usually in the pits and like to hit the big Late Model shows.
