<b>Hall Breaks Bad Luck Streak, Hurt Feels Better With 'Heavy' Win!</b>

While the temperatures outside plummeted, the action inside accelerated Saturday night as 81 karts entered to compete in 49 events during the ninth seasonal running of the “Coliseum Indoor Winter Speedway Kart Racing Series” on the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri.
Although they hadn't competed much yet this season, Corey Nelson from Jefferson City and Kansas City's Chris Parkinson showed no signs of 'rust' as both captured double feature wins. For Nelson it was a double-win run in the Yeager's Suzuki Cycle Sales Stock Light and Fairfield Motor Service's Stock Heavy divisions.

“All 2-Cycle Ace' Parkinson, a third generation racer, captured the top spot in the Russell Karting Specialties Controlled 2-cycle and KNKN-FM “Checkered Flag” Open.
The Kix Kountry Krazy Kage Karts continued to live up to to its crazy moniker. Ten cars! were scheduled to start the 15 lap feature, but four fell out with problems before the first lap was recorded. Jon Herndon, who now seems to be the current fastest 'kager' at the Coliseum in the world's loudest kart class, took the lead on lap two. Defending Kage champ Delan Askins made a try to pass for the lead going into turn one. Both cars hooked with Herndon's mount flipping. Askins continued around the 1/8th mile, super-banked oval, then had his brake rotor and area oil burst into flames. Both pilots were sidelined, with the pair un-injured.
Points leader Melody Simpson from Eudora, Ks inherited the lead and easily held off her second-placing brother Matt Simpson to flagman Steve Pauley's flying checkers..
'Heads-up' chauffeur Adam Hall from Columbia finally broke his bad-luck streak. He dashed from mid-pack to earn a solid second place in the Schilby's Auto Center Junior 2 Light flight a! nd came across in first for the first time by copping the TCI Tire Centers Junior 2 Heavy main event.
'Bad' Bradley Roberts from Mora found his quick speed again by capturing the Goody's Steakburger Junior 1 Light run. He almost made it a 'double-bad' night until he was involved in a skirmish early in the Busso's AA Muffler Junior 1 Heavy bout. After being relegated to the back of the 8 kart pack, he rushed up for a second place finale' over winner Ethan Burke from Fulton.
Billy Hurt led for 14-1/2 laps in the Dale's Tow Stocvk Super Heavy, 15 circuit affair until current points leader Gary Bunch tried to pass low down the back-chute and into turn three. He got by and crossed the final stripe first. However, from discussion and judgement after the race was over, the win was handed back to Hurt with Bunch scored in second. The flying pair have been battling all season for superiority in that class.

Before the night's 3 hour and 20 minute event was started, all were saddened when notified that long-time racing supporter from Sedalia, Terry W. Clark, the founder of Terry's Osage Express, had passed away during the week. His wife, Kay Clark, has been an important part of the successful team in the Coliseum Series promotion since its inception five years ago. For Kay and her three children, the always top-notch fans and competitors dug deep into their hearts, and pockets, to make donations to help the Clark family endure this time of need.
With this event marking the half-way journey of the 2002-3 Series race schedule, the action will be back again this coming Saturday night.
Admission to the grandstands for adults is $5, 6 to 10 years old-$3 and under 6 years of age, free. The pit office starts taking sign-ins at 1 p.m., the grandstands are unlocked at 3, hot laps circle at 4 with the first qualifying heat fla! gged for 5 pm.
