In a strange twist of fate, the 2010 ULMA season championship could very well come down to one driver’s tough decisions this weekend. Fresh off of back-to-back wins last weekend at Callaway Raceway and Central Missouri Speedway, title contender Jason Bodenhamer is currently at the “Boone Nationals” in Iowa competing amongst the modifieds in hopes of securing a spot in the national’s main event. If the Centerview, Missouri driver makes the a-main and completes the weekend in Iowa, then Vance Wilson will be the 2010 ULMA overall champion without even having to compete! However, if Bodenhamer’s week does not go as planned in Iowa, he has stated he will return to Missouri and both Callaway Raceway in Fulton and Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg to compete for the ULMA title. At CMS, Bodenhamer’s track championship title is also on hand as Jon Binning could pass him to claim the track championship. Bodenhamer stated late Wednesday night that, “it is a tough decision and I hope everyone understands that this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in the Boone Nationals.” Bodenhamer was the 2008 ULMA champion in a year he won nine feature events, for 2010 he also has nine victories. To make things even further complicated Bodenhamer would have to keep Wilson behind him in all ULMA results as the drivers are both down to first and second place finishes among their fifteen best points-earning nights. No matter what the outcome or decisions this weekend, it has certainly been another exciting year for ULMA racing with 48 point races held so far.

In what some people have tagged as the “best ULMA feature ever,” Jason Bodenhamer kept his title hopes alive by travelling to Fulton, Missouri last Friday night to compete against Vance Wilson head-to-head. The travels paid off as Bodenhamer came away the winner in fierce battle for most of the feature event. Bodee, Wilson, and former point’s leader Bob Test swapped the lead back and forth using the low and high lines lap-after-lap until Bodenhamer edged Wilson at the line by a mere six inches. Robbie Wright, Danny Lorton, and Chris Cox were also among the top ten finishers last weekend at the track. Be sure to log onto the track’s official website at www.callawayraceways.com. There are no registration fees at the track this weekend in any of the competing classes. Chris Cox also locked himself in as the 2010 ULMA Rookie of the Year after last weekend’s results. Chris has posted thirty ULMA starts on the season thus far and has several top five and top ten finishes this year, which helped him, claim the title; ULMA congratulates Chris Cox on his accomplishment.

Last Saturday at CMS, Bodenhamer picked up his second feature win of the weekend and ninth win overall with a convincing win over Steve Clancy who came away with another top-tier finish. Jon Binning, Brett Wood, Shawn Rayfield, Danny Monroe, Brian Pipes, and Kevin Coyne also posted finishes among the top ten. ULMA points will come to an end for the year at CMS this Saturday, September 11 as both the association and track wind up the 2010 season. There is no registration fee at CMS this weekend for any drivers in any classes. ULMA drivers will assist with the Homes for Our Troops, Turning Left for Our Troops fundraiser, at Central Missouri Speedway Saturday, September 11. The ULMA HFOT Late Model and Gogetem Racing HFOT B-Modified are scheduled to be present competing in the night’s racing action. The Homes for Our Troops organization was founded in 2004 and is strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries since September 11, 2001. To contribute to the organization through ULMA, send donations in the form of check or money order to ULMA, P.O. Box 794, Moberly, Mo, 65270. Tommy Cordray took his second-consecutive track championship last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway. The driver from Browning, Missouri finished the year off strong with a solid fourth-place showing in the track’s final regular weekly ULMA feature event. Newcomer Jesse Stovall claimed his first-ever track late model victory with title contender Vance Wilson a close second, followed by Jeremy Kelley. Trace Westling, Danny Lorton, Harlen Kennedy, and R.D. Peterson were among the top ten finishers for the final night of ULMA racing at the speedway.
