UMP license??

This came from Clay County Speedways face book page today,,,,as you can see,,this is what I mean about the UMP license stuff.
Starting Sept. 7th both hornets and pure stocks can run for UMP points for 2013. This will be up to the drivers to do so or not. This is a way we can determine if 2014 classes should be UMP or not.
NO driver will HAVE to buy license to finish out 2013, it the racers choice. Thanks for the continuing support of CCS.

Charleston Speedway is the track in question and what is happening is this, the promoter makes any driver without a UMP membership pay $25 and lets them keep paying $25 each week until they have paid enough for a full UMP Membership and then the track sends all the money in for the membership. It is basically a payment plan.

Not really a cutoff to be a member, because you have to be a member to race.

But the cutoff to become a member meant any points you accumulated up to that point wouldn't count if you became a member after the cutoff date.

So, let me get this right, If someone joins now, they will only get points from this point on?

I heard next year there will be no ands ifs or butts. You get the membership and run or not and be sent home. UMP will charge the track for non members racing?

Show up at a IMCA track and see what they say. I promise you they will make you show your IMCA license before you are allowed to draw a pill. If you don't have one, you will be buying it before you draw a pill.

Just because IMCA does it does not make it right. What else does IMCA do? How well do they manage their rules? How well do they enforce rules?

There was a time when the "except in rare instances" policy was abused in IMCA.
More recently from what I've heard they do a much better job of enforcing their rules than UMP.

Clay County is a fun place to race.If any of you remember the old White City track,it reminds of that place. No one comes around whining and b*tching about what you've got!...Big,fast 3/8th mile that you can run 4-wide if you need to,good banking but very little cushion most of the time...:)

They will only be allowed to run up to two UMP sanctioned races since a racer is allowed up to two races before having to have a membership.

This license you complain about, this is a once a year cost, $125, correct? And allows you to run at ANY UMP sanctioned show in the COUNTRY, correct?

No. I can only run my sportsman or street stock at a few tracks.
And that's part of the problem. If they are going to sanction a class the rules need to be uniform at all sanctioned tracks. Personally I don't have a problem with UMP requiring a license, but they're not providing value of the license to the racers when they don't have uniform rules and when they pass off rules enforcement to the tracks.
