(May 16) – Race fans in Oklahoma and Texas will get their final opportunity to catch the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy in action this weekend as the final three events in the Day Motor Sports Southwest Region are slated for this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 19-21.
Ryan Gustin leads the regional points battle and is poised to capture the Day Motor Sports Southwest Region title after winning three straight races two weeks ago in the Lone Star and Sooner States to bring his season total to eight victories in 18 starts.
Johnny Scott has one win in the region and sits just 48 points behind “The Reaper,” but Gustin has been a model of consistency in scoring three wins and three additional top-five finishes in regional action.
Defending USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes has two wins and sits third in the rankings, while Rodney Sanders is fourth and Kelly Shryock is fifth. Shane Hebert, Bobby Malchus, Bryan Rowland, Jimmy Ray and Dereck Ramirez round out the top-ten in the points while Rookie of the Year contenders P.J. Egbert and Clyde Dunn Jr. are on the outside looking in, tied for the eleventh spot.

The USMTS Modifieds battled at “The Outlaw” just three weeks earlier with Scott snagging the win over Shryock with a late-race pass for the lead.
Spectator gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and racing will begin at 8. Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks, Grand Nationals and 360 Modifieds will also be in action.

On Friday, May 20, the series makes its debut at the Brill’s Motor Speedway in Meeker, Okla. Promoter Mark Brill is in his sixth season operating the high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval where USRA RHS Modifieds compete on a weekly basis.
Track points leader Kyle Sweeney, Colt Goodman, Chad Davis, Doug Bragg, Brian Gates and Matt French are just a few of the locals expected to contend for the $2,000 top prize.
Support classes for the night will be USRA Western Flyer HotMods, E-Sprints and USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars. Gates open at 6 p.m., hot laps begin at 7:30 and race time is at 8.

A return to the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, is slated for Saturday, May 21, where the Day Motor Sports Southwest Region champion will be crowned and the next batch of drivers will be qualified for this year’s Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Championship powered by Swan Energy.
The 17-year-old facility is a popular racing destination for drivers and fans in the Texas panhandle, with regular weekly shows often playing in front of standing-room only crowds.
The racing surface at Bill Worthen’s speedplant is a generous 75 feet wide in the turns with 20 degrees of banking and 65 feet wide down the straight-aways with 5 degrees of banking. The facility has a seating for 4,000 race fans, plus handicapped parking, stadium lighting, full concessions and several luxurious V.I.P. booths. For the race teams, the pits have concrete pads available with lighting and water.
Last year, Rodney Sanders of nearby Happy, Texas, emerged as the winner after a hard-fought battle with Bumper Jones. Jason Hughes and Ryan Gustin finished third and fourth in the inaugural event.
Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., grandstands open at 6, hot laps take to the track at 7 and racing is scheduled to begin at 7:30.
