West Plains Motor Speedway Sets 2006 Season Schedule

(WEST PLAINS, MO) West Plains Motor Speedway promoters Don and Billie Gibson have released the 2006 racing schedule. Again this year, as in the past six, the Stanfill Memorial Modified Special will actually kick-off competition with a 3-day modified event paying $8,000 to win and $800 to start the 50-lap feature sponsored by Dirt Works Race Cars, out of Walker, MO.

Beginning Thursday, March 16 and climaxing on Saturday, March 18. This race has drawn top modified racers from across the nation in past years and is expected to do the same this year. Last year's winner, Terry Phillips from Springfield, MO, is expected to defend his crown, but there will be plenty of competition trying to see that his plans fall short.

Three Saturday practice days are scheduled beginning with March 4, followed by March 11, and the third and final practice on March 25, will follow the annual Race Car Show to be held on the parking lot at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in West Plains. Winners of this show are determined by a penny-per-vote method with all proceeds going to St. Jude's Children's Hospital . Everyone displaying will receive a trophy compliments of Coca-Cola and O'Reilly Auto Parts.

Weekly points races will begin on Saturday, April 1, and continue through Saturday, September 30, with the exception of special event dates. The divisions making up the weekly program for 2006 will be headlined by the ever popular IMCA Modified along with Super Stock, Hobby Stock, Cruisers and the Youth Hobby Stock.

Almost all the champions from 2005 are expected to be back to defend their titles, they include Billy Romans (IMCA Modified), Stan Ellison (Super Stock), Bobby Bryant (Hobby Stock), all from West Plains, and Bobby Skinner (Cruiser) of Moody, MO. Anthony Carnal (Youth Hobby Stock) of Cabool, MO, has already moved up to Hobby Stock.

Traveling late model series will make four appearances this season. The Mid-American Racing Series(MARS) is scheduled in April 8, and again on September 2, for the 16th annual Fall Nationals. Ken Essary's Show-Me Late Models are set to appear June 17, and again on July 22.

The track's signature event, the 14th annual "Show-Me 100", is set for May 25-27 and will again carry O'Reilly Auto Parts as the title sponsor. This event traditionally brings the best late model drivers from across the nation to the southern Missouri town to vie for the $200,000 total purse.

Scott Bloomquist of Mooreville, TN, is the defending and 4-time champion of the event and will be looking to make it three "Show-Me's" in a row this season. If he does he will collect $40,000 for the accomplishment. Start money this year amounts to $4,000, making this the best paying late model race in history. Modifieds will be the support class.

The Kenny Wallace Race Night is set for Thursday, June 15, this season. This fan favored NASCAR driver will again make a fan appearance prior to the night's modified program where he will compete in his #36 Herminator modified manufactured by Impressive Chassis.

The Simon's & Sunoco Firecracker Weekend is scheduled for June 29 to July 1. This event will offer 3-nights to qualify for the Super Stock division offering a $5,000 check to the winner on Saturday night. Last place start money will be $500 with a weekly points program for the other classes. The weekend will be highlighted by a fireworks extravaganza produced by Air Magic Fireworks out of Batesville, AR , on Saturday night.

The 14th annual Dirt Work's sponsored Modified Show-Me Championship will begin on Thursday August 3, and conclude on Saturday, August 5. This program provides three night of qualifying for the modifieds in an unsanctioned event paying $6,500 to win and $650 to start. Weekly classes will also run points programs.

The 16th annual Fall Nationals will again feature the MARS Late Models on Saturday, September 2. There will also be a full points program for the weekly classes.

The seasons special events will wind up with the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) annual appearance on Saturday, September 23. This is always a thrill-packed program with a large field of sprints.
