What would you do?

If you were in charge of taking care of getting fans in the stands?? Looking for ideas that you have either seen done, and worked or something you would do to get fans in the stands?

Looking for realistic ideas, not free beer, wet t-shirts or anything like that. Lets see the replies roll in.

I would offer deals on Groupon or go to the local schools and businesses and give out free coupons or buy one get one free deals.

I don't know if it would attract fans but it would be fun. Get a 2 seater late model and have drawings on 50/50 or something and give the fans a chance to get a ride.

1) get show done by 10 or 11 p.m. with all features for all class's
2) don't allow the track to get 1 groove night after night
3) give a free soda or hot dog for each ticket purchased.
4) start on time

I agree with ZGR. I think the best way to entertain the fans is by providing good racing. I get so irritated when somebody spins out and it takes 5 minutes to get the race going again. I have not really seen when raceceivers or transponders seem to help. What would help would be to have raceceivers and have a rule that if you dont get in your spot within one lap under caution you are kicked out for the night. If you spin out or stop to cause a caution deliberately you are black flagged. As a fan, and as a racer, I get easily annoyed by these things. The biggest things that annoy me are the slow, out of control, obviously inferior cars that run around in the back and ruin the show / waste time. I am not saying they dont need to be out there or dont deserve to be out there, but when lap cars wreck the leaders or are involved in 4 cautions in one race, that cant be tolerated. I remember the last race of 2011 at belleville, my mom's cousin came to watch me race for the first time EVER and left half way through my feature because there were 15 cautions in a 20 lap race. unacceptable.

i like the soda hotdog thing but once a month i do understand that mike will never be replaced but hire a better anounncer

Military Night (I'm not Military, and have seen tracks do it, the attendance seems to go up)

5 nights attendance, 6th night free. Pit pass, general admission etc. Something along them lines.

65 and over free.

Kids get one free hot dog, or some sort of discounted item. (kids bucks) give em a fake buck and let em get what they want..

Kids birthday parties. Have a little area (top row, bottom row, or whatever. every track has a family section) if they bring 4-5 friends that have never seen a dirt race, that's 4-5 kids that are going to be hounding their parents to go the rest of the summer.
I do love the Nickle races, fan appreciation,jr fan club, pick three, the attendance dice roll B Ville does.

Anyone from Aviston gets in free to any and all racetracks....... can't say I didn't try.

i think they should have a 10,000 to win ump vs imca modified mania and a ump vs imca late model challenge worth 10,000 to the winner and have a couple of 5 dollar nights a month

Here's my idea....it happens in Texas alot. Offer one night of a semi-big show...include a free admission to the show. Get a sponsor to have the tickets available. You will make more money in food sales than ticket price. second idea, Have the drivers come to the front stretch...every single car and driver. Let the patrons on the track....one way on...one way off. Have the drivers available for autographs, photographs.etc. Make it about 45 min intermission. Its works, I've seen it bring in huge crowds. Just a thought.

Make racers pay a $10.00 car entry fee if they bring the car to the show hidden in an enclosed trailer, Use that money plus maybe giving radio stations free advertising by giving them a board to advertise on and a decal that racers have to display on there race cars, race cars pulled on open trailers do advertise and should be able to save a buck more then the big money guys with rolling race shops. This will probly get me bashed but who cares im a big boy

Again back to the cost of racing, open motor rules choked with 2barrels carbs,or crate engines only, hard tires anything that would bring the cost down and making people afford to race again.the more cars the more the people....common since

also what ever happened to having some nascar drivers come and race here? just asking

that also brings up the time we had radio dj's come race our street stocks on a saturday nite...brought in a ton more fans then the cop cars i think

Set up car shows thru out the year at retail shops, malls, any place with high traffic and reward the guys for showing up, cars from up north have one and the guys from the south have another as example, Fan count isnt just the job of the track owner/promoter its the racers responsability as well so everyone needs to get on board

Run a tight show... Most of our local tracks do a darn good job at this. I've been to some that do not however. We all know that in dirt track racing *^(! happens. But when it does, take care of your fans who have traveled the furthest if it's a special show. Meaning don't drag out unnecessary long intermissions and then run every other class feature before the class that was promoted for this special show.

how bout splitting the season in two have racing thru june take off july to let teams regroup or hang new bodies come back and race the whole month of october rather than quiting at end of sept. and what ever happened to mid season championship that drew crowds, also why do we give fans the grand finale first then oh yeah there is some other races still happening, what was and is wrong with building to grand finale like we used to do with lower classes first and ending with latemodels or top division always kept fans in the seats till end buying beer and food just few thoughts would also like to see more 2 day shows for ALL classes not just late models and mods

ump vs. usmts night i think that would draw a lot of mods

Hmm I thought this post was about "what one would do to get fans in the stands" and not about having special races....then I say h3ll lets get the nascar trucks to come race 55.........lets stay on topic

Have a huge car show at one of the local malls. The track I went to when I lived in Colorado would have one every year. They would award track points for attendence. Each track could set up a booth with a big sceen an show video of the races. You have to figure 90% of the people at the mall don't have a clue what a dirt late model is...
