USAC has had the mind set that they are the oldest, best, etc., and to them, that comes at a price. the "USAC loyalists" are becoming harder and harder to find... case and point; steve lewis and his fleet of "9" cars; 1st time at the chili bowl this winter.
kinda like the woo format huh? they seem to do alrightI'd argue that USAC Loyalist fans are becoming harder and harder to find, as well. Who comprises this demographic? I'd argue it's guys age 50 or older. As much as it might pain me or anyone else to say it, most of the younger fans--say those under 25--don't give two cents about USAC's glory days in the 50's, 60's and 70's.
The biggest problem to me with USAC is that they're esentially running the same tired race format that they did twenty, thirty or forty years ago. Folks today don't want to see time trials, followed by only 36 drivers getting to run heat races; they want to see 40 or 50 car fields with five or six heat races, and the features lined up by passing points. Make the drivers work for it.
The POWRi or Sprint Bandit formats just lend themselves toward a better show in my opinion.
most people around here don't know the name of the USAC drivers heir shows are great they actuallrace not follow the leader stuff
