CLARKSVILLE, TN – Whynot Speedway in Meridian, MS returns to action in 2006, and will feature affordable Crate Late Models under the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series banner. Dirt Late Model driver Rodney Wing has purchase the track and his plans are to reopen the facility that has been closed for the past seven years.
“We’ve been busy working at the track, cutting down trees that have grown up through the years, painting buildings, and trying to get the track ready to reopen in mid April,” Wing said. “We’ve done a lot of renovation that includes new roofs on the buildings, new bleacher boards, and a new P.A. system.”
Wing admits he is seeing the racing business from a whole new perspective that he never saw as a driver.
“As a super late model driver, I still see that class has a place as a special event, but the costs have gotten out of hand for a weekly division,” Wing said. “The Crate Late Models are the coming thing for weekly tracks because of their affordability, and we’re excited to be involved with the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series.”
The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series features economical engines produced by GM Performance and sealed at factory. The steel-head “602” engine sells for $2,950, and the aluminum-head “604” engine sells for $4,950, with free delivery for either engine. These engines are race-ready right out of the crate from the factory.
Whynot Speedway will also host a StormPay.com Dirt Late Model Series National Touring event, a two-day $5,000-to-win race on September 1-2.

The 24-race StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series will begin on March 31, and run through October 1. The StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series is proposing up to $130,000 in point fund money and prizes.
The addition of Whynot Speedway gives the StormPay.com Weekly Racing Series five tracks in Mississippi. Whynot Speedway joins Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS, Swinging Bridge Raceway in Jackson, MS, as well as Columbus, MS tracks Columbus Speedway and Magnolia Speedway.
