There's no doubt about it.............Wib Spalding is one of St. Louis' all time greatest racers.

He is undergoing dialysis three times a week.

We all enjoy a little "bench racing" and he would too.

If you have a moment on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday (his days off)............why not give him a short call and chat about racing. His phone number is in the 618 area code at 377 4514.

If you'd like to send him a note your mail will reach him at 123 Hampton in Bethalto, IL. Don't forget the 62010 zip code.

Or if you'd like to share your favorite Wib story...........drop him a quick note here and we'll make certain he sees it.

Wib Spalding is the greatest driver I have ever seen drive a racecar,, I am the biggest Wib fan there is, He was my idle when I was a kid, and still is to this day,,,I wish him the best, and hope everything works out ok..

I second that, I was there he won Lt Model,,Sprint car,and Midget features,,,, Dirt Hound,,,lmao!!!!

Watched Wib at Tri city coming out of 4, last lap, ...he had 2 cars in front, and he was blocked...didn't stop him....he passed them on the right all the while with sparks flying from him grinding the front straight away concrete wall. Yellow Camaro, steel body, looked like a grinding wheel had been takin to it down the whole right side. Never saw anything like it. He won of course.
Best wishes to you Wib, and thank you for making a young boy want to race...:)

Wib was my hero, I used to come every Friday to watch Wib @ Tri-City. The first late model I owned was the original 444, Wib was always there if I had a question or I needed a scolding!! LOL He was my mentor and a big factor in my racing career. I owe alot to Wib and could never say enough to Thank him for all he did for me!

Wib was and always will be an icon at Tri-City Speedway as well as at many speedway's across the country!

Wib,
Thank You and you always will be my hero!!

Where were all of you people when we nominated Wib for induction into the Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa? If anyone deserves it, he most certainly does. Maybe just by posting this, something will be done? I certainly hope so.

I voted for Wib. we someone need get all his records together and pesent them to the hall again while Wib knows it.

You can get a copy of Wibs' records from him. Just call him or write to him and I'm pretty sure he will give you a copy to forward to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame.

Also we have been though this before but I want a few of Wibs tee shirts I see at the track, I have ask the people that have the shirts made up, they told me on the shirts that were made up had some wrong things on them and was going to print up new ones but never hear if they r done where to order,, any body know, I have heard of a few other people wanting them also,, make up a bunch and sell them at the area tracks...

T shirts

The last time I heard, his nephew[I think] was selling them[several years ago]. He lives in Granite City, Il. You could also call Wib; he would know.

Does anybody out there have some neat stories about Wib through out his racing career. Would love to hear whats out there, I think it would be neat if Kevin could put together a reunion of all the guys that raced @ tri-city speedway, maybe put some of the old pics. of the 60s,70s,80s racing up around the track.Could maybe have the anouncer talk about some of the old timers . I think the crowd would love this.Wib was the best but there is other drivers that raced there and it would be nice to give them a shout also just saying.

I was at the track one niter,,Wib and Ol man Wallace was going at it for the lead door handle to door handle,, lap after lap,, they came out of 4(half mile),Wallace got into Wib,, Wib got into Wallace, nobody lift-en, then both cars hit the front fence toar down about 100 feet of fence, from the flag stand down, broke one telephone pole in half, the cars came to a rest on the rocked part u walk on in front of the stands , the fence was laying on the ground the cars was on top of the fence, just a few feet from the stands,,,Nobody was hurt but there were allot of words exchanged, they canceled the rest or the feature till next week,, man what a nite,,
