PEVELY, Mo. - March 24, 2011 - Mother Nature just simply won't cooperate with the DIRTcar Roundup, better known as the Party in Pevely. After moving the event to March 24-26 at I-55 Raceway as a kick off to the DIRTcar UMP Racing season, officials have decided today that the weather outlook, which includes everything from freezing temperatures and snow flurries to rain, won't allow the event to be run this weekend.

The event designed to give the weekly warriors in eight divisions of DIRTcar UMP Racing - an event that was a vision of UMP founder Bob Memmer - launched in October 2008. Since then, the event has been impacted negatively by weather conditions.

Officials will explore options to relaunch the Party in Pevely. For those with reserved pit spots, call the track at 636-479-3219.

The 2011 season at I-55 Raceway will begin Saturday, April 2, with DIRTcar UMP Late Models, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, DIRTcar UMP Sportsman and DIRTcar UMP Pro 4 Stocks.

seems funny you go that tracks on the east coast already racing but here inthe midwest it even looks look like unfavorable weather and they nix it

This is a freakin joke. People take off work for this event and yall cancel it for 30%-40% chance of rain. If the track doesn't want to have this event, why do they continue to schedule it? Guess we will head to Green Valley for the Crate Nationals. A place that actually doesn't cancel their big events...

Wow looked at all the forecast and none of them are call for freezing rain or snow, rain yes but not the others. Is this how 55 will do things this year if the weatherman is calling for rain on Wednesday then will will call the races on Saturday? This is Missouri the weather forecast will change 3 more time before Friday.

Race season hasn't even started yet, but the whinning is already in full blossom.

Pathetic.

Hate to see it cancelled with all the time and money drivers have put into just this race alone along with requesting time off from work exc.
But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Wow weather is going to be horrible rain cold what do you people want? And saying so many people put so much into this one race ? Really its March this race has been cancelled 3 time due to weather if you didnt at least have the notion that this race maybe cancelled you were very naive. Lets just hope that the weather starts to get better and race season can start . I think this was a good call saved most people money and time.

From waether.com 2:30PM March 23, 2011

Friday - High 48 Low - 34 Chance of rain - 60%

Saturday - High - 50 Low - 33 Chance of rain 50%
****************************************

Based on the above

Chance of running the show and breaking even - "0"

Chance of running the show and losing thousands of dollars - 100%

DIRT and I-55 are in the racing business, not the race canceling business.
I agree this is not what we wanted to hear today but if you think the decision to cancel the program was what DIRT and I-55 wanted, you are dead wrong.

It's no secret that businesses in this economy cannot survive carrying a ton of red ink. I'd rather lose a race weekend versus losing a track.......and folks dirt racetracks continue to close all over the country.

This announcement, without a doubt saved, some travel and registration money for those drivers who were planning to head out tomorrow.

Sure you can be upset, so am I.........but don't be stupid about it.

Yes, people buy UMP memberships for this one race even tho it will be the only UMP race they will run all year. and I was stating its sad to see it not run another year. In some cases folks need to buy new tires( hoosier A's where tracks out toward central MO race G60s), adjust suspension (Limited Mods can only have 3 link or leaf) exc to match UMP rules. So with that being said, for some, they put alot more effort into making it out there this year in hopes to race.

I think that was very well said Mike, I own two companies and pay all the bill just like the track so I know the pain of pushing to make a profit and come in at budget; its better to do it today than wait til Thursday when guys have already made the haul. I do however question the dates that UMP/ I-55 pick for the show, I know that there are conflicting dates in the summer but I think/wish this should be a major event for not only ump but I-55 (give us a chance to show off our track to guys around the country which I feel we are very luck to have). If they feel the same way I think they should try and use the event to either kick off the summer nationals or end them, that time of the year has a much higher chance of getting a three days without rain. I get that there are other big races/home tracks you have to contend with but if the event is as good as it should be it wouldn't be long til they start scheduling it around you. I just want to see a big two day show at pevely that doesn't have to revolve around big wings getting pushed started.

Very well said Mike and Turn Left - - - !!!!! I hate to hear this as well !

Exactly, I agree with all 3 of you. My son Jimmy was planning to bring 2 cars to the race, but it wouldn't be much fun for his mother to sit in the stands in the freezing rainy cold! Sure family members would show up, but a lot of other people wouldn't show up at all, as well as a lot of racers who wouldn't show up either. These early races are at the luck of the weather. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer to see my dirtgirl.

I say move it back to the fall yes it would be a little cold but the show would probly happen just one man's opinion.
