305 sprints?

You can build a 305 sprintcar with a 2 3/16 injection and no starter cheaper than a carburated one with a starter. And it will be less of a hassle to maintain. Plus there is no battery to worry about when you turn over.(and you will turn over)

I have to agree

Yeah Smurf, It screamed right up till the second YOU KILLED IT:D

I had a 305 that I was very impressed with. I know a bunch of guys that say they are a boat anchor but I was impressed with the one I had. And 305 sprints any place in this area would be awesome! Lets run em!! Doe Run??? Yeah lets do it!

it might work

doe run could handle the 305 sprints. If your going to do it then you need to go by the common guide lines of the other 305 sprints around this region because why change rules that are already working fairly well, if you do then it might end up like the pro-mods did, or the hornets. Then again if a 305 sprint class come into play it will hurt the other classes one such as the multi's and i would like to think multis (when there is 15+) put on a better show then a 305 sprint would. But in all Doe Run needs to do something because fredericktown is going to hurt the car count on mini stocks and possibly dwarfs/mod-lites if they would decide to run them. Bobby could get more multis if he tried a little harder. the Facility and track is awesome. Midgets would be sweet there enough though i'm not a midget fan. in my opinion leave the 305 plain and simple with runs. carbs and starters, the wings wouldn't matter for the simple fact the smaller wings they run would actually work pretty good. but thats just my opinion, take it or leave it.....lol

The main problem in my opinion with the starters,is the batteries. I think it would be more safe for the drivers if at least the batteries were not on the car. Maybe if the crews and push trucks had battery carts with 8 or 10 ft. cables on them to start the cars. Just not comfortable with adding battery acid to the already violent experience of flipping a sprintcar.

This is going to be a fun class!! Hope it takes off!! It's peaked my interest after the meeting.

awsome!!

sounds like an awsome idea!! me and dad would be all for a 305 sprint class!!! count us in! nathan gibson, Round Boy Racing

!

I would like to say to not get crazy and too different with the rules......However, there probably aren't any 305 guys out there who would make the trip to DRR. Especially if they are already racing elsewhere on Friday nights. I say go with your own rules when it comes to carbs and starters and such, and keep the costs low.

Face it, DRR is not gonna be paying a huge payout so they aren't going to draw cars in from far away. Most of the cars that will race there will be built by local guys who want to go in a different direction, spend less money to race or renew their habit because their class has been cancelled or moved to a different track...

In the opinion of one of those guys, I say: Keep the costs low(no $5K engines/keep them carbuerated and without exotic internals), get rid of the wings(the cars will look different than the 360/410's in the area and it will cut several hundred dollars off the seasonal expenses), and institute a weight rule--too keep the heavier guys/older cars competitive.

I also think that a very good idea with this is to let the news soak in for a few weeks and let the word get out, THEN have another meeting. Try to get the potential drivers together and vote on rules. 10-12 cars will make an excellent start for this class, and a concensus of those first 10-12 crews should be able to fine tune an effective and affordable rulebook for this class.

Again, this is just my opinion, so don't give me crap about it. I just have alot of interest in this class. This is a direction that I would love to go because I can't afford a 360/410 car, but would love to race a sprint car. My budget may allow for this class, since the dwarfcars are going to Fredericktown now:mad:

If my Midway/LA car meets your rules, I'd like to come to DRR once in a while just for something different. I'd like to try it with a wing or not. Sounds like fun.

I have some cars to sell if anyone needs a ride for next year. There are two rollers- a 1998 Trostle ($2,000) and a 2002 Maxim ($3,500). Also there is a 2003 Maxim frame with body that has a battery box and is ready for a GM starter ($1,000). I guess the '03 could be sold as a roller too. Call me at (573)216-0887 pretty soon or it's headed to Ebay. Thanks.

1998 Trostle? really. if there is anyone that is gettin into this class the trostle is the way to go. they are truley winning cars...

I'd like to try the Trostle out myself at California next year. However, I just don't need all these cars.

Next year I'm going to run a pair of 2000 Gamblers. I may later regret selling the Maxims and the Trostle but my mind is made up.

Is there an age limit? Tommy Worley was going to put a car together for his son Garrett.

This is just a guess/suggestion, but I would say 16 is the minimum. This because the Mod-4 was 15 with 2 years verifiable racing experience and the ministocks is 15 with 1 year experience(or driver test). Absolutely no offense to Tommy and Co., but I think that a 400hp car on a 1/8 mi oval is probably not the best scenario for starting out Garrett(or any inexperienced driver). Karts will get them to age 15. Dwarfs/Multi's will take them after 14. And ministocks after 15. There is no sense in dropping the age that low in a full size sprintcar...let them learn to race first!

:D And yes, I too would have loved to be in a sprintcar at 13 or 14 like Jeff Gordon was, but come on. That is no place to learn...:)

If the forum cops get me for posting stuff here that could be in the classifieds I will blame you.

The Trostle is gone and the '02 Maxim is spoken for. Now I'd like to get rid of an '03 Maxim frame and body that is 305 starter ready $1,000.00 and an '02 Stealth frame and partial body for $500.00.

Later, I may have an '00 Gambler and 305 motor for sale. First I have to get my youngest girl to tell me if she will drive a winged kart or not. She may be all talk. If she is a spectator again for '07 then I'll keep the 305 stuff.
