With the UMP Pro Late Model Championship scheduled for this weekend at Tri-City I would like to challenge UMP and Track Officials to do everything possible to prove all the cheating rumors about this class wrong. We have all heard the talk about rampant cheating going on in UMP Pro Late Model class and this is your (UMP & Tri-City Speedway) chance to return the integrity to this class.
Let’s pull out all the stops and do some meaningful tech inspections in this class. Tire inspections (for chemicals and compounds), engine tech (valve springs, pop-up, rockers, sealing bolts etc.), shocks (check for canisters and do a claim/swap), check for fuel additives and any other rule printed in the 2009 rule book. Do a simple visual inspection of ALL cars that enter for the weekend and then do some random checks after the heats, B mains and features.
We have raced 40 times at 9 different UMP tracks this year and have been teched a total 2 times. We have seen tech on cars that have raced with us 2 other times. 4 out of 40 doesn’t seem acceptable for what is supposed to be a National Sanction. And this lack of tech is what is causing all the rumors and finger pointing.
We have made many inquiries to UMP officials about rules enforcement and while they say they will send a guy to the track on occasion their normal response is “the tracks are responsible for weekly tech”. The tracks say they don’t have the time, money or the tools to do tech right. And so the cheating, or the perception of cheating goes on.
Well here is your chance to prove to everyone in UMP Land that cheating is not what this class is all about. Bring out all the testing equipment, the sniffers, the dogs, the durometers the no-go gauges or whatever it takes!
While I have heard that UMP may be trying out some new testing equipment this weekend, I would like to see them go all out with their tech for the sake of the class.
Will anyone step up and actually police the rules????? We shall see this weekend!
