A Mods with no spoilers

Well it's been a full season for no spoilers on a mods. Does anyone think the class was more competitive? It sure didn't appear to change anything to me. Did it save the teams any money other than the cost of the spoiler? I really doubt it.

Look at a USMTS mod & then look at a UMP mod. They look stupid without a spoiler! But then again, it is all about saving the racer money in areas that really don't cost anything? A hard tire & a spoiler makes more sense to me then no spoiler & a soft tire. Steve Sr.

I think the results were about the same as any year. The majority of the guys that won races in the past with a spoiler still won without spoiler. I think the racing overall was better. And to Steve's comment.., ump needs a better tire.

I thought the racing was much better from the races I saw. I saw a lot less passing with spoilers. I'm very pleased with the decision to get rid of them

Am I the only one that finds it odd that we are discussing aerodynamics created by a tiny blade of aluminum attached to cars racing on tracks less than a half-mile? I understand the science of it all, but still....

I've seen cars knock off a small section of that "tiny blade" and go from fast to junk. Coincedence or maybe aero is playing a part?

exactly like these guys complaining about roof lines at a a !/4 mile bull ring and did those cars go thru a wind tunnel

I want to go thru some wind tunnel testing with a mod and see what kind of numbers we can generate at what speeds.

Why bother with wind tunnel testing when you could just tuft the car and then drive it around with a Go Pro camera mounted to get some idea of where the air is actually flowing over the body. Is it staying attached? Is it turbulent? I've never seen any one do this but it would be interesting and easy to do.

It is probably ludicrous to think that a body like this is in any way aerodynamically efficient and actually produces any meaningful downforce on the chassis. As speed increases I'd be surprised to see it not produce net lift overall. Maybe adding a spoiler tends to simply reduce the overall net lift which is what I would suspect is most likely.

I didn't notice any change in how the car felt without the spoiler. I think we get far more downforce off the decking and the roof. that is the reason tech inspectors are always measuring that stuff.

Look at the bodies on the Elite cars, they've been in the wind tunnel, and look how everyone is making their bodies now....just like the Elite cars. It all makes a difference.
elite cars are not normally in this area so its not just in ump country is it nor did win the championship

Nicely, Mckinney, Bauer, and Krup all ran ump races in this area and i know I'm missing a few. Plus Nick mainly ran UMP shows.

can some one please post a picture of a Elite car

Here's an Elite
