Belle-Clare consideration

Staring out the window at all the white stuff... the idea of being at Belle-Clare this coming year again is gratifying. Kudos to Don to make it happen at this revered old track. She may have her short-comings, but being, in your face, up-close and personal is not one of them. Our 3/8 mile friend to the north-west with UMP now, it’s going to be hard for the little track to hang on. (This is not a diatribe against T-City. It is a process of ideas to help both tracks.) Many on this forum have said that T-City’s move to Friday nights caused spectator count to drop a Belle-Clare. This is a no-brainer, you have a given stock car fan base, it split them.

Belle-Clare should move to Sunday. (A few years ago when there was a rain-out they would race Sunday, spectator count looked pretty good.
Start early to be finished by 9:30pm
Could help car count, LM UMP drivers racing for points will go for the extra points they can pick up on Sunday. (Remember when early in the season big name UMP drivers showed up at Belle-Clare to get a jump on the points. Think that is going to happen now with two UMP tracks so close?)
Could help other classes as well. Some I-55 only Sportsman cars don’t want to run Belle-Clare the night before, fearful they will tear up their cars and not get them ready for Saturday. Sunday race would fix that.
The working man/women budget racer, don’t have to bust their butt, or take time off work to get to the races on Sunday. They have most of the weekend to get the racer ready. Isn’t there always something to do at the last minute.
I thought it was great to race on a Sunday, more of a party. Pits open early, cook some grub, hang with friends. Then get down to business, racing. The fans can tail-gate. The parking area can have mini car shows. Get a local band to play.

Anyway still stairing at the snow. Ready to be shot down in flames...

very good idea. truly. one of the biggest issues with that is the noise. the locals are already screaming about it to the city fathers, and the majority of them dont have to get up early for work the next day. with a sunday race, almost all will have to get up early for work.with noise, traffic ,lights, ect being an issue until (most likely) 11 pm or later, they all are gonna have a stroke running to their respective alderman/women. it will never fly. the homeowners bring in more votes and tax dollars than that racetrack does. although the most obvious argument for the track will be "it was there since the 40's, so you knew that when you moved in", doesnt really matter. saw a bumper sticker once that said 'never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers'. that says it all.

Maybe tricity should move their weekly racing to sunday nights. I think its BS that UMP is changing things so 2 tracks can run the same night and be under 50 miles from each other. Belleclair has always been the friday night UMP track. Good luck to Hoener and the rest of allied in 2011.

Midget racer, yes, the noise could be the killer. But I did say racing ending at 9:30pm. I see the racing starting in the afternoon, say, 4 pm or 5 latest. Of course then there would be hot day track issues. I still think Belle-Clare could get a niche market of Sunday racers and fans. I also think would be good for Belle-Clare to have (Friday or Sunday) more Powri racing. The last race of the season at BC was fantastic! What a great show and over in a timely manner. More of that please Belle-Clare.

What I fine unreal is people who move near an airport, then ***** about the noise.

Why would they want to do that? They aren't having car or fan count problems. Seems their problem is often too many cars to finish in a timely manner.

I 2nd that.....makes since for Belle Claire to consider a move for sure.....POWRi races at BC rock! More of those would be awesome as well....I have always thought it would be cool for BC to move stock cars to sunday then have a partial local points season on say 2 fridays a month for midgets and micros (under POWRi rules but just local track points) But I know I am dreaming :)

Think this would kill the track. The residents are already trying to close it down and sunday would put the nail in the coffin. You say start earlier , what do you think track conditions would be in july 100 degree heat? The problem is UMP and giving into Tri City. Dont get me wrong Kevin has a nice track and runs a good show but the 50 mile rule was put in place for a reason. Belleville stepped up and became Ump sanctioned long ago when Tri City wouldnt. They shouldnt be put in the position they are. UMP and Sam Driggers show no loyalty and have no spine.

As always is said FOLLOW THE MONEY to find out why??

I really don't think that BC will be effected that much by TCS getting UMP sanctioning. The two tracks are so different from one another. Have you noticed that when one track is racing and the other isn't that only a small number of drivers invade the other track? If the tracks were both classic Illinois 1/4 mile tracks, I'd see this argument. With the differences in these two though, I just don't see it.

One thing BC could do is make the track more racy on a consistent basis. When the track is racy it's the best show around. Unfortunately, the place is too often a one lane track by feature time. If you want the fans to come and stay, you have to entertain them.

Seems to me that was the same problem they had on Sunday nights.
Maybe they should have fixed the problem instead of splitting fans & car counts on Fridays.

I guess all of Bob Memmers ideas and loyalties have been forgotten.

I have heard this same statement about Tri-City. Flat on the floor wide open racing does not always make good racing either.

I think they should at least try running on sundays and see what happens. I think we need somewhere to run on sundays in the STL area!

Tri city has nothing to do with this place losing cars and fans. It is all belleclairs fault with over pricing, bad shape, allied, and the need to pocket all the money and not put back in the place. Like i said before you are looking at the next Godfrey or St Charles. Sunday would be there best move. Jmo

actually godfrey was the friday night track when ump bent their rules to allow belleville a sanction. my dad says the only way they beat the 50 mile rule was by drawing a funny route on the map.
