Who is the "they" that have "now" decided this is taxable income?

Answer: NO. The CARS Act expressly provides that the credit is not income for the consumer.

Even if your statement were true, and you being the man who thinks he is intelligent as you appear to believe you are, shouldn't you have checked this issue out BEFORE you purchased a vehicle under this program. Doesn't this make you look pretty foolish for not doing so?
Afterall its a democrats program, you seem to hate any and everything a democrat does. Why would you think or assume you weren't going to get screwed somehow? Did you suddenly have a change of heart and start thinking the democrats and their programs were good?

that why I had nothing to do with it beside my clunker got better gas mileage than 90 percent of the new cars and yes yjr Pruis is off the list when you put your arm out the window does the car want to turn

In those states where you have to pay sales tax on the CARS Credit, A regular trade-in is charged sales tax anyway. But (in those states) you will still come out ahead provided that the car or clunker that you are trading in is worth less than $3500.

BTW....Missouri and Illinois DO NOT charge sales tax on the CARS Credit.

Any transaction that I make I try to inform myself as to the rules and regulations and fully understand the conditions of the contract. Do you investigate the rate of intrest you are going to pay on a credit card, house or car loan prior to signing the papers? Or is that too much for you to read. 1. Do you or have you ever entered into a binding contract without knowing the details?
2. Are you complaining because you couldn't (or didn't) get in on this so called government handout?
3. What type (make and model) of car is your "new/used" lease program car?
4. What type (make and model) did you have to get rid of because it wasn't worth fixing?

What do you mean by this? Can you be more specific? The cash for clunkers deal is the first time I have ever fed off the govt trough. I hope I read a false article and don't have to pay taxes on a car I bought with taxed money and did not depreciate out. It was a personal vehicle. As far as that goes my business does not own any vehicles. Come on over and check out my race cars and drink a beer sometime. One on one we would probably understand each others points of view better. If not at least we would drink a beer!!! Racing is the only reason I work the other stuff is all secondary.

Truly intelligent! Why would you enter into a program like that if you didn't read the details? I think most people read about it before they decided to do it.
