Davey Allison vs. Jeff Gordon

"IF" a man stands on a toliet is he high on pot?

I think another thing that has to be looked at in Gordon's defense is, would another driver be able to drive that good of equipment? Look at Michael Schumacher; possibly the best driver in the world and definitely has some of the best equipment. Would a driver of lesser skill be able to handle that kind of power? Probably not. We've seen great drivers succeed in so-so equipment, but rarely do you see lousy drivers succeed in great equipment because at the end of the day, it's still the driver. And as far as Davey goes, he and Gordon were close enough in eras to have been great competitors and great rivals. Plus, that was before the Monte Carlo was re-introduced in '96 AND when Yates had some amazing engines. I think Davey's death robbed us of some great races between the two, but when I brought up this subject, I didn't do it to suggest Gordon was not a great driver, but to simply start a debate, which it has.

I can't resist another comment on this. Had Davey not got killed, Ernie Irvan would not had seat time in the 28 car or possibly Dale Jarrett would not have ever driven for RYR and win a championship. He inherited the ride Davey was in. As you can tell I was and still am A Davey Allison fan. Along with Tim Richmond, Alan Kulwicki, Neil Bonnett, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and a kid a some of you never even heard about by the name of Rob Moroso. He won the Busch champioship and was destined to be one of the next superstars of Cup racing before losing his life. Hopefully i will get over my fixation of the loss of all of the stars have been lost from this sport.

No, you shouldn't get over your fixation. It is people like us (I'm a huge fan of Kulwicki, Allison, and of course, Dale) who will keep their legends alive. Never forget who they were and what they meant to you. If we forget, who else in today's NASCAR will remember or care?

Allison Vs Gordon

I was also a big fan of Rob Moroso. I think he would have been a really good Cup driver. He only got to run about a half year before he died. I still wear my Moroso hat every now and then..

Good Equiptment Is Not An Automatic Trip To Victory Lane. There Are Some Who Couldn't Win No Matter What They're Driving. But, Like I Said In My Previous Post It Is "one" Of The Main Keys To Success.

Nascar Is No Different Than Other Forms Of Racing. There Have Been Guys Who Have Never Lived Up To The Potential/billing, Because Of Inferior Equiptment And Lack Of Funds.

Kenny Schrader Is A Good Example. No Offense To Kenny, I Am A Fan Of His And Have Been For A Long Time. I Root For Him Every Week. But, He Can Win In Every Nascar Series Except One, Nextel Cup! He Has Won In The Cup Series. Back When His Equiptment Was As Good Or Very Close To The Rest.

It Is My Firm Belief, That If You Put Kenny In The #24, #8, #17, #12, #48, #20......ect...he Would Be Up Front Challenging For Wins. But, I Don't Think Jeff Gordon Or Any Of The Other Guys Listed Would Do Any Better Than Kenny Does In The #49.

Last Season 17 Different Drivers Won In The Winston/nextel Series. Every Race Was Won By One Of The 8 Major Team Owners, Hendrick, Roush, Childress, Penske, Gibbs, Yates, Evernham, Or Dei. Except One And That Was Ricky Craven's Win At Darlington. Kinda Shows, The Teams With The Funds And Better Equiptment Do 99% Of The Winning. Thats Not To Say Every Now And Then An Underdog Can't Slip One In???........j/m/o....

I have to disagree with one point of your post: If you put Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, or one of those guys in the 49, I believe they could win. Granted, they may not run consistantly in the top 5, but like I said, I believe a good driver can do better in bad or average equipment than a bad driver in good equipment. That is also not saying Kenny is a bad driver, but possibly Cup has begun to pass him by. Kenny didn't get the breaks some people did. Had Ganassi picked Schrader over Sterling Marlin, who had a similar record of success on superspeedways, I think we would have seen Schrader run in the top 10 in points just like Marlin did. The fact of the matter is, Kenny didn't get the breaks. I still believe Schrader has one more win and that's not just the babble of a fan. Kenny still runs well at Daytona and 'Dega and Richmond and Bristol and I think this year will see his final victory before we see him disappear to the short-tracks of the Midwest. But as I said at the beginning, putting Kenny in Jeff Gordon's car isn't going to win him a race, whereas I think Jeffy could win a race in Kenny's car...

WELL, MY PERSONAL OPINION IS THAT IS NOT A RACE WINNING TEAM. BUT, THE LAST SENTENCE OF MY LAST POST COVERS THE CHANCE. :) RESTRICTOR PLATE RACES ARE A GOOD PLACE FOR THAT!!!

I would agree with that, but I think Schrader's short-track roots give him an equal shot of winning at either Bristol or Richmond.
