Fastrak Crates Message for Christmas

Nobody said to do away with the "supers". The crate class would be a totally different class.

More or less, excepting a handfull of shows in '05, hasn't Mount Vernon done away with the "supers"?

Who still runs a B Mod class? Godfrey dropped them for next year. TCS went to A's last year and the car count went up. I'm a little confused, when on the one hand, it is used as an example of how a low budget class can work, and yet the class is getting dropped in favor of A's?

Isn't MCS still running "B"s for '05? But, yes, that would be about the only track in this area running the class.

I see both sides of this, I have said about what fast51 posted about every rules change suggestion I have heard from spec or crate engines, it will cost racers money to change from open ingines to whatever the new rules are.

I don't think this is an attempt to get tracks running UMP to change the rules from open motors to crates, only an attempt to get some tracks to add a crate class, or give a travelling crate class one or two dates a year.

I also think this kind of engine rules leads to alot of rotating wieght reduction spending, titanium shafts in the rearends & trannies, carbon fiber drive shafts, titanium or tubular bolts in the driveflanges and hubs, undercut, coated wuickchange gears, ceramic/carbon/titanium rotors, coated parts in the rearend and tranny, titanium axles, magnesium hubs, brinn pro trannies instead of the traditional brinn or burt, and a load of other ways to reduce the amount of horsepower the racecar seals from itself. Those things will still let people beat you with money.

Racers will not go for car count based graduated purses, strait off if that is the plan count me out for sure. I will not gamble what it pays to race, on who else decides to chose a track that nite, the purse must be gaurenteed.

What about the engine builders that are getting cut out of this deal, in favor of GM, Ford, and Dodge. Were talking damage to the economy if racers choose crates over professionally built engines. This is a huge can of worms, I am all for levelling the playing field to take some money out of the cost of racing, and tires and engines are the biggest expense we face, but I am not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Dean, I Understand The Progressive Payout Is Not Ideal For The Racers. But, Nither Is A Guaranteed One For Promoters While The Division Is In Its Infancy. If Something Like This Was To Be Brought In. I Think It Would Take Cooperation From Both Sides. From The Looks Of These Rules, Guys Could Run One Of These Crate Models For Less Than They Are Spending On A Ump Modified Running For $500 At Most Places. It Wouldn't Be Permanant. Just Help Get The Division Off The Ground And Self Supporting. Just A Thought???

All we are hearing about this is a thought, and a very uncertain future for UMP after the 05 season. If Boundless would put some things "set in stone" for us for the next few years it would make things alot different.

I do not think anyone can make a living racing locally, but we have to count on track checks to help support our addiction to racing.

But Dean, for every current LM racer running independently built engines that elects to switch to a crate model, it would seem that there would be at least one support class racer that moves up to crate models. Doesn't it seem reasonable that some of those guys moving up now to crates might very well step up to a full LM a few years down the road?

Yes in a perfect world every thig you say would be OK, But I garuantee that anytime there is a big show it would be open rules to accodimate the big names drivers. That is what draws the extra people to pay the purse.

And I guarantee that if it's a Fastrak Sanctioned points race only cars that pass tech according to Fastrak rules would be allowed to run. Period.

#1 Carbon fiber anything is illegal in Fastrak.

#2 The parts you have listed, we already have in our LLM's. Nothing new there. We encourage ingenuity! We don't want cookie cutter racing.

#3 The engine builders will benefit in the long run because we will keep more people racing, get more people started racing, and bring more people back to racing. It stands to reason that a certain number of these people will move up into an open class in a year or 2. If we keep going like we are, I hope the engine builder can survive on that 4-5 guys that have plenty of money.

#4 We don't do a car count based purse for Fastrak Sanctioned point races. Our payout is what is agreed to at signing and that's that.

Bust me in tha cahoona's man why dont ya..lol. Just saying..if driver's are given an option to goto another lower budget class..or ones who cant afford the ridiculous prices of aluminum engines..then driver's will come..not necessarily saying they will out number the previos class.
