Who is the Quote for?

If you want to see how crate engine late model racing thrives after a few years, check out the racing in Savannah, Georgia.

Oglethorpe Speedway Park has been racing with crate engines for three years. This upcoming weekend the track hosts it's 8th Annual Showdown on the Coast. Weekly racing is alive and well in Georgia thanks to crates. This show is the grand-daddy for crates! It was the first show to welcome over 50 crate engine late models to compete in a one night show!

On October 21, the crate late models will run for the second time at the Showdown on the Coast. They will race for $3,000 to win; $150 to start and the winner will also receive a new GM Performance engine.

The winner will be torn down by track officials and certified GM Goodwrench mechanics. If all is stock from the crate, the engine will be reassembled and new seals will be put in place. The winner will receive a new engine and $3,000.

How has the weekly program done?

12 car average to nearly 20 car average. 25 registered late models to over 40 in 2005. A record eight rookie of the year candidates in the late models this year. Sixteen different winners in twenty-five feature races.

See you at the Showdown on the Coast!

It's always fast! It's always fun! OSP

some mini-sprint engines cost $8000

yes some engines do cost that but my motor we buy from the junk yard from anywhere between 1200 and 2500 and we go and kick the "BUILT" motors with our "BOX" stock motor. Ya you can spend a ton of money on them but it aint necesary.

Hey pone, give it a rest. You don't like LMs. We've all picked up on that by now.

Also, did it ever occur to you that perhaps a number of LM racers are happy where they are? Not everyone aspires to the "next level." And while I love the mini sprint class, unless you live in Indiana or Oklahoma, there simply isn't a large supply of tracks to run them on a weekly basis.

cheaper

dude I could have picked up a mini sprint on ebay for 1200 earlier this month complete. I really like these guys especially since you are getting young folks in the mix these guys are the future of auto racing. the reason I hate late models so bad is the hurry down the straight away and hit the brakes. they **** in the corners you might as well waste your money on sportsman or hobbey stock at least it is kind of a hobby for these guys. If you are in a late model trust me you are serious.

Guys, I love watching open Lates as much as the next guy, but they have no place in your weekly grass roots racing organization. It would be like your local asphalt track having a Nextel Cup class on a weekly basis.
I am from the Lake of the Ozarks area. We have had two Fastrak meetings this weekend to discuss the class. Myself and several friends run the Factory/Street stock class around here. Your average top 5 car around here is about a $10-$15k car. Some guys have that in the motor alone. There is no santioning or organization, and your lucky to find a $400 to win event. After this weekend, I'd say you'll see fastrak thrive in this area.

mini sprint for 1200 you get what paid for at least late models and mods don't have training boards

late models

:) I realize this is a late model forum and I ahve nothing to contribute of value. I will leave you guys alone I thought that there might be someone around there that maybe shared my dislike for lates. I was hoping to join forces and stir things up. so anyway you guys have a great day and I hope I didn't make anyone too mad. Sincerely Big Pone

but it's a shame the what is fastrack guys doing in this forum it may look like a late model but don't run like one

Why do you care punk. All you do is sit in the stands and whine and complain. Let the racers race. You just sit back and keep your mouth shut.
