ford diesel

here is what he told me. the rocker was very loose and wasn't pushing the value down like it should. now in my mind that tells me that a rocker is broke or a push rod is bent or the stud holding everything down is bad. now if everthing is loose then i can't see how it would flaten my cam. i am kinda getting the impression that he don't want to do this. it all just sounds kinda funny to me.

Well..dont hold me to this comment..but..im confused....as well. Im sorry..i havent seen the fords have an issue..with flat cams..or..bad lifters..not to say..it can or..will happen. Id go look...for yourself...see whats going on. Still...cam and lifters...are..like 250..plus gaskets. Dont know the hours it pays..to r and r cam and lifters..but..i cant see 1400 labor(at roughly 55 an hour...thats alot of time).

i am thinking a bad push rod or maybe the thing just came loose........ will find out today and will put it on here as soon as i know.

well just got back and he explain it to me. the #1 was 260 and the one across from it was 400, so that is why he his thinking that i have flaten a lob or a lifter is bad. all the rest was around 480 to 500. i look at the rocker and it is sloppy loose. rolled the push rods with my figers and it didn't seam bent. it just look like the bolt came loose. getting ready to go out there and see what i can find. what is the value lash suppose to be on this????????????

well it look like i lost a lifter or cam or both. turn it over and it wouldn't even push my thumb up. the end of the pushrod is discolored too. so that means it got pretty hot. probally when the fuel went into the oil. well guess i am looking at new top end. there is diffently something wrong in there.

Well...i think..personally..you have a valve..that got stuck...and ruined the lifter. Lack of compression..wont be a result of a bad cam. Stuck valve...bad head..ring...ect...so on would. Still...really..ive looked at some forums..and i havent seen too many head issues(ok..the older model ones...yes) so..it may have been caused by a fuel issue..dont know. If it leaned cylinders out it would have gotten valves hot..pistons hot..ect.

then i guess the end of the push rod would have got hot from trying to push the value open, but it would bent the push rod then. it not bent. i dont know what to think all is i know i got a mess over here. do you think i can changed out the cam and lifters without removing the engine. got the stuff to pull it but i have other project sitting in the way to my engine puller. where can i take the heads to have them redone or at least look at. i don't think the place i took it too goes that far into diesel's.

Engine rebuilders off of 9th street, saint louis is pretty good about that stuff. Ask for Kerry. Real easy going guy, and will answer anything you need to know. Where did you take the vehicle to? Dealer?

no a shop here in town that works on both gasser and diesel. thinking of trying to takling this my self. sure can't afford what they are charging me.

heck buddy $1400 Will buy you a another 6.9/73.... let me look at mine extra motor in the shop you may get lucky on just a collasped lifter....

yeah thats the problem i don't have the 1400$ to get it done. i thought about a different engine but again it comes down to that all mighty dollar. taxs on the house was due at the begining of this week and that just about tap me out. rounding up some stuff to sell on here when i can get a chance to. been trying to find a book on it too havn't really look around town but i can't seam to find anything on the web either. guess i need to find a international store and see if they got anything.

Look on ebay..ive seen alot of ford diesel parts on their. You can get a book from auto zone...somehave it in stock and really..its a pretty good book. Like smurf said..id try to see..if its a colapsed lifter...before trying to put another whole engine in her..save you oogles of time..and trouble.

tired o'reilly's all they had was hanyes with about 2 1/2 pages on diesel next chance i get to auto-zone i will see if they got one. yeah i think i would be better off keeping this engine and getting the stuff done to it. they did a copression check on it and it was good so i figure get the top end done and i got pretty much a new motor. it only has about 150,000. they say that not even broke in yet.....so either way it will have to sit until i get the $$$$$$.

well i am back............ pull the air manifold and the valley pan off. it won't let me pull the cam lifter out. my guess is that the roller broke off and mushroom the end of it. i can't get to my engine puller right now so i am going to try and do all of this while it is still in the truck. price a cam at napa alittle under 300$ and the lifters are 14.95$ each. going to have to pull the oil pan off too. just to make sure nothing is floating around in there. i do have one ?...... on the back of the vally pan there is a drain of some sort. put my 3/8 drive in it and unscrewed to get the vally pan off. what is this and where does it go??????????? there was nothing bloking fuel or anything else from going into it.

got busy here with football and school that i forgot to update on the truck...... got it apart and the cam lobe is bad. real nice looking groves on the lob. had to push the cam lifter out through the block and about 1/4" of it is gone. just like i thought it had mushroomed the lifter. getting ready to order the cam and at least get that done. will have to wait on the lifters until i get the check book back up. didn't pull the head off to look at the value, put i guess i should to find out if it is stuck or not. any way that is where i am at right now.
