Highland Saturns

the one eilers car is a auto and it stays up there key to doin good there is gettin round the turn fast. if ya can do that you should be alright

Look man, we can argue all day long. Here is the bottom line. A stock 4 cyl. is not gonna run in the top 5 at Highland. Period. Sure, if you draw a high enough # it will run there for a lap or so. By stock you mean that nothing's been changed on the car? Then NO, the top cars there are not stock. The way the rules are laid out at highland and the fact that nobody really checks the cars is what has created this. Too many cars have had cpu work done to them amongst other things. 71,17,18,3,3e,00, etc...These guys are simply doing what is permitted. That's why I don't race there anymore, that and the fact that it's a nightly fiasco with Charlie and his officials. Highland has real tight corners with very little banking on the bottom of the track. Throw in the fact that it's dry-slicked damn near every night and how well do you think a front wheel drive car is gonna handle there? Watch the hornets and tell me where the fast cars are beating everyone else. It's down the straightaways, not in the corners. Anyway my point is that there is constant grumbling on this site about Highland, and the hornets in particular. There is a simple solution. Go race somewhere else. Highland is not the end-all-be-all of racing. You could try I-55 or Tri-City. I run at TCS and we are getting short on cars and it would be nice to be up around 20 or so again. TCS is tacky and way faster than Highland. I'm sure they would win you over if you gave them a shot.

dry slick yeah its dry slick every night its similar to driving on a paved road. (corect me if im wrong) you take any fwd car on a paved road and you have more than enough traction. similar to highland being dry slick. (corect me if im wrong) being how they have to run passenger car tires its hard to avoid this. so you dont go low you stay mid to high if ya really watch the front running cars most of them run mid to high. hmm wonder why? one thing your running round a wider turn right? (correct me if im wrong) so by doing that you can maintaining more speed through the turn and haveing more speed out alowing for more speed gain down the straight this why you thnk that the lead cars are leaving every body down the straight. technically yeah they are leaving them down the straight but why because they have more speed trhough the turn alowing more momentum(spelling) for the straight. ok yeah have a DOHC motor car is to your advantage but ive seen cars run up there with the tops cars with SOHC. not so much pushrod motors cause in my opion there worthless compared to DOHC or SOHC. thats my 2cents.

I agree with the computer statement, and that's about it. There's just so much that you can add to these cars for the right amount of money, without getting caught. I did a bit of research last night, and there's all kinds of computer chips you can get to dial in the right amount of mixture on gas, and the exact fuel pressure that will make you run at peak performance. But, there is nothing that states that you can not add these things to your car in the Highland hornet rules. Therefore...if its not in the rules, its legal. This takes us right back to...more money=better car. You can stick a mediocre driver in a fast car and have them win a race.

yeah they need to redo these rules definatly theres so many different ways you can take the rules. ive seen other places put in there rules if its not stated in the rules its ilegal.

yes, I definitely agree. they're much too broad on the rules. I know what most everyone runs is not COMPLETELY stock, but hey. At the moment, its not considered cheating.

I agree. You can also take a good driver & put him in a mediocre car & he will also win. DOHC does'nt mean alot either, we have won many races including one of the $500 to win shows at Brownstown, finished second in another & won our heat & the dash at another one of them, then had technical problems in the feature before we droped back. Not to count numerous races at other tracks that we have won. All this was done with a SOHC racing against alot of DOHC, so it goes to show it dont really matter. J/M/O

1996 Chevrolet Cavalier: 2.2 liter OHV-110hp <VS> 2.4 liter DOHC-150hp

1996 Saturn SL series: 1.9 liter SOHC-100hp <VS> 1.9 liter DOHC-124hp

1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse: 1.9 liter SOHC-92hp <VS> 2.0 liter DOHC-135hp

1995 Ford Escort: 1.9 liter OHV 88hp <VS> 1.8 liter DOHC-127hp

haha, what about a 1997 cavalier with a 2.2? whatever happened to good ol' transmissions...all these wires are too confusing.

everything evolves...just look at the bombers. you used to be able to go to a junkyard and pick out your bomber. not anymore...not if you want to compete. I mean, being able to run beadlocks and everything now. I remember when bombers where BOMBERS. the hornets have now turned into the original intent of the bomber class. and soon, they will evolve too. I have no solution to the problem. It just happens I guess...there's nothing you can do to stop it.

its not going to take just rules. its going to take STRICT, more defined rules, and strict ENFORCEMENT of those rules.

1 Rule If it didnt roll out of the factory that way you dont race. That means nothing can be changed. Stock front to back inside and out.

yes, this is true. but they don't enforce it. it is too hard to enforce. there are so many performance computer chips and other things that you can add to these cars, that would take FOREVER to check.

Hey all of you that think the Saturns are so fast I have a 1995 Saturn for sale that runs good but does not have reverse it is a two door car $400

I also have a 4 door car with a good five speed but with no motor for $250
