I-55 Raceway/Mod pay out

The reason there is no flag flying on the flag pole is because the pulley on the pole is broken - and it is going to require a little more work to get it fixed than what they have had time to do - of course all last week was fixing the back gate - anyone who would like to shimmy up the pole to fix it is more than welcome and may even get them into the races free for a night!

Is it time again for this familiar gripe? Modified racers have been asking this question for the longest time, and here's the bottom line as I see it: the Late Models are the top class and deserve to be paid as such. All other classes, while important to the show and pour equal amounts of effort into their programs, are support classes.

Modifieds were introduced to the area nearly 2 decades ago as a replacement for the Econo Late Models, which replaced either the sportsman or limited sportsman divisions, depending upon which track you called home. None of these classes were ever considered the premier class, although they did headline at some tracks trying to save a buck. The results were predictable- empty grandstands and near bankrupt promoters. Godfrey Speedway tried this twice- in the late 80's when sportsman cars were evolving into econo late models, and in the early 2000's when the late models were dropped in favor of the modifieds. In fact, I am of the opinion that having the modifieds as the top draw is what led the then-owners to sell the track back to Barry Seiler, who then sold it to Beelman Concrete.

Let me clarify- I have nothing against the guys racing these cars, but they are what they are- a support class. All race cars are too expensive. But a support class shouldn't need fresh gumball tires, aluminum heads, pullbars, etc. If you can't afford to be competitive in the modifieds, drop back to the sportsman division.

I realize everyone is entitled to their opinion but I would much prefer the action of a mod race ANYDAY to a late model.

Mike,

Yes I agree that the economy is bad, but I don't think the racing fans would mind paying an extra 2 dollars to get in the grand stands if the fans know that the extra money is going to the drivers purse.
i agree i would gladly pay 12 dollars for general admission and all the people i know would also if it goes to thepayout purse.

 So you mean to tell me that in the past two to three weeks, not one person has had time to fix that flag? Thats 7 days a week that they have and if you really want to get technicall the flag was broke before the back gate was. I would just think that the Amercian Flag would be a priority to hang on the race track since this is an Amercian Sport.

I would agree that it ought to be raised. I don't know what everywhere else pays but I'm sure I-55 is at the bottom of the list. I wonder how long it has been $500 to win? I believe that if Pevely had a mod payout identical to Tri-City's (top to bottom) you would almost never see less than 30 mods every night.

The office is open on Wednesday, so just give them a call and let them know what time you will be there to fix the flag pole. Also, I'm sure arrangements can be made for you to sing the National Anthem on Saturday Night. Just tell them you want to sing when you are calling about the flag pole. If no one answers just leave a message as they all do have full time jobs outside of the racetrack too. Otherwise, be patient because it has not been forgotten and it WILL be fixed!

Flag pole

I think the back pit gate being fixed is a little higher on the priority list than the flagpole. As far as the anthem, "who cares" as long as it is done. I am there for the racing. I 55 does put on a good show and I am there nearly every week but I must say that Belle claire has had very good racing in LM and mods the last couple weeks.

I think he forgot we do the National Anthem yes we do- be it kids or an adult or a recording it is done! :) We also Praise the " LORD " and ask for all the racers saftey and the crews and officials --- we take moments of silence for our fallen fellow racers and family members ---- they ALWAYS have last weeks stars get extra monies for the dash or hard charger and those guys have the honor of carrying the AMERICAN FLAGS around the track following the DODGE PACE CAR !!!!! The comment made was your God Given Right ( ) ..... What other sports do all this ???? These guys have been busy trying to get the track just right so someone can come in and say they did not like it no matter how it is  I think your post about the pay was fair enough - butt the rest of the post was showing your backside while bent over   Not fair to compare TCS to I-55.. That is Kevin and Tammy's job and they do a DARN GOOD JOB at it I might add TCS has come along way !!!!!! I-55 Ray and Mark have 8-5 M-F jobs Dustin has school and I think they have done a GREAT JOB with I-55 over the years as well with all their improvements ... ... So KUDOS to both promoters for what you guys offer us local pisser and moaners. DARN SHAME we have to cry or compare either one of these tracks... Also Glad you made this one of your first posts!!!! Lot's of first posters the last few weeks LOL!!!!!

The pay has always been short for the amount of effort the racers put out. I sure that the owners of all tracks want to make a profit off thier investment. It don't seem right but I don't really know how the tracks expenses are broken down. And Will probably never know.

Wow!!

Central MO Speedway $1,000 to win $160 to start. I bet I-55 would have 40-50 Mods a night. With that kind of payout Mods would have to be the top division like they are at CMS. I do not see that happening in Late Model country. If the Stl area had a problem getting enough late Models for weekly show I think this could work.

Here the pay is as follows:
IMCA Mods: $450 win -$60 start
IMCA Sport Mod: $250-$45
" " Stock Cars: $300-50
4cyl/Wildthing: $100-Pit Pass($20 or 25 depending on show)
IMCA Latemodel: $1000- $150
Hobby Stocks: $225-$40

Believe me, your pay is alot better then ours. Always remember that somewhere (LIKE HERE) it is worse... And the way that 90% of the drivers are, most of the guys don't even finish cause of plain stupidness. Can anyone tell me how to win a race on the first lap??? Well if so, send an e-mail to Promoter: Terry Hoenig terry@leecountyspeedway.com and tell him... Cause there sure alot of guys that have to put every bit of that hard earned pocket lent to work for fixing their cars EVERY WEEKEND... Believe me, YOU AINT GOT IT BAD!!!

Best Mod pay out I've seen here: (but look at the drop off...)
