Lapped cars

Lapped cars need to be put back where they were. Why should the leader have to fight their way around them and the rest of the cars not have to if the caution comes out. I have an idea....how bout we just throw a caution everytime the leader starts to come up on lapped traffic that way we won't EVER have to worry about it. NOT...both are crazy ideas. I know that people have griped about A LOT of things the past couple of days and yes, some changes did need to be made BUT this is not one of them (in my opinion). LAPPED CARS ARE PART OF RACING!!!!! PWRACING and I agree on this point for sure.

I personally have not raced at a track where lapped traffic was put anywhere but the back. Heck if I was lapped traffic I would opt to go back there just so I didn't screw a front runner on a start.

And one of the major reasons for doing that is SCORING. When you have 18-20 cars in a feature and there has been trouble with scoring, this will greatly diminish some of those problems. And more and more tracks are going to that type of situation where the lapped cars go to the back.

That's why you have one scorer who does ONLY lapped cars. Seems like a meaningless job but IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFENCE!!!!!! I have done that job before at tracks. I kinda have mixed feelings on the whole issue of lapped traffic, so I'm not sure which way I lean on the issue. It's not fair for the leader to have to work his way around the wobbleheads sometimes and not the rest of the cars, but it also makes for more better racing.

faithful you have so many good points... like I said ether way somebody getting screwed it a NO win situtian on lapped cars.... the ONLY problem I have with lapped cars is when they can't hold a line and they are squirrly on the track we all seen a few of them.... it's differnt to have to race around a lapped car than avoid a lapped car that is out of control  the problem I see with the cone start is(more in purestreet hobie stocks and modifeds)when you do a conestart usally if you have a feild of 12 or more by the time car get to the cone to pass the leader is on his rear this is of course the faster class the faster they are the more of a problem this will cause

I know........

I HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD IDEAS!!!!! I WOULD NOT WANT THE JOB BECAUSE I PERSONALLY ENJOY WATCHING THE RACES TOO MUCH AND IT'S HARD TO WATCH AND SCORE, BUT I FEEL I COULD HELP TERRY OUT AND/OR GIVE HIM SOME SUGGESTIONS. :D ANYONE WHO THINKS THAT SCORING IS EASY IS CRAZY, BUT IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE RACE...WHAT CAN MAKE OR BREAK SOME DRIVERS. THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK IT IS EASY SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY SOMETIME.

There is no doubt about that.... That would be a great exercise for some people in the crowd some night... LOL... Give everyone a pad of paper and a pencil and tell them to score all 20 laps of the modified feature. It gives you a whole new respect for those people trying to do that job... It's tough, especially when it goes like the Pure Street feature a couple of weeks ago when it went green to checkered and Jeremy Greenwalt lapped all but about four or five cars...... EEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSS!!!!

how about

how about on every caution the highest lapped car gets the "lucky dog" -please nobody take me serious on this one :)

From the stands....

I can usually keep track of the lapped cars in my head from the stands.......that's why I'm saying that having someone JUST do lapped cars is a good idea. For sure it gets difficult when you have a guy like Jeremy Greenwalt lap nearly the entire field, but that's where that other "scorer" comes in handy. There may be some nights where they aren't needed that much, but then there are nights when they may be the most important person up there. I score from the stands every week at SFCR for both the modifieds and the sportsman (just for my own personal records....and one year Lisa Harris and I both scored from the stands and WE caught an error by the scorers and after further review they agreed with what we had...which benefited BOTH drivers).

GREAT IDEA, Shannon......the "lucky dog" award needs to come into play......:D LOL!!!

from the stands

heck, sometimes i forget who is in the lead,so i would sux as a scorer,my memory goes black every time i see a set of juggs :)

Hahahahahaha

LMAO:p
Leave it to you, Shannon, to make such a statement. I bet you didn't forget who was in the lead that night at Montgomery County, did ya????

well???????

well,it was kinda hard thinking about it,after all i quit breathing and was about to piss on myself :)

Thank goodness you didn't pass out behind the wheel. Wouldn't that have been a hoot. "What happend to Shannon?" Well, he was leading the race but forgot to breathe. "Well, why are his pants so wet?"

Would have loved to have been there for that story!!!!!

Oh No

Ill give ya CPR .......... :D And maybe we could get you some depends to wear while you are racing ? Whatta you say Shannon...... JUGGS ? what are you refeering to.... ooops... never mind, i know...... ;) LD

I know nothing about scoring at a regular race track but I have scored Quarter Midgets and a full field of those are almost like a modified race. The thing with that is we had 3 or 4 people scoring so that they could compare in case of errors or human mistakes. I know 3 or 4 people "prolly" wouldn't fit in the tower.

Thank you all for voicing your opinions. I just wanted to see how everyone else felt about lapped cars. I am a rookie driver and dont always see things the way everyone else sees them. Thats why I started this thread. Again thank you.

Well, sorry to tell you but the lapped vehicle rule was not in effect then. It was not even brought up until a meeting last night. I do know what you're saying about the changing this and changing that, but you have a rookie promoter trying to learn what is best for his particular track. That is why they are doing what they are doing right now.
As far as the scales go, I can't tell you because I'm never around the scales when they weigh in, but they are not going to cheat for Kenny Kennedy if that is what you are implying.
Dear Mr. Millsey,
Well, sorry to tell you too, but what track were you at Saturday night? Who do you think started the lapped car debate in the first place. PWRACING HIMSELF. After Kenny got around two lap cars, a caution came out and the lapped cars were put to the back! Terry was asked about this and he said the calls were made in the tower. This is while the yellow was still out. This put Brent directly behind Kenny. As for your scales response, maybe you need to reread my original post. I did not IMPLY that there was cheating on the behalf of Kenny. The person sent down to watch the scales when Belken went across stated that he did not make weight the first time, but somehow did on the second try. The reason the person was watching the scales in the first place, is because the rules were changed after the beginning of the season to include aftermarket heads and triple disc clutches. Both of which were reportedly on the #46 car. This would require him to weigh 3100 lbs. at the minimum. In his defense, Jeff B. said that the #46 was 3200 lbs. the night before. Maybe the scales should be CHECKED? pwracing's better half
