Good Track

The track has actually been really good the last two nights of racing. The first night was very rough, but since then Mel has done a great job of making it smooth...I have not heard anyone complaining about the track being rough. I wonder why he has such a low car count in LM's too...I hope some of the LM drivers come back to MCS, they always put on a great show and the fans love em!

I also have heard a few of the drivers mention some things about the equipment getting torn up because of the rough track. To me, sitting in the stands, it doesn't necessarily seem any rougher than some of the other tracks I go to. What I mean is, other tracks have been just as rough but maybe this one is rough more often. I know there is a big hole down in turn one where I sit. I sure don't know what the problem is but obviously it isn't all because of gas prices or Hammerlee would not be going to Mt. Vernon.
Whatever they need to do to fix things, I sure hope they do it soon. MCS is my favorite track but it's not very exciting when there aren't many Late Models to watch. It is heartening thogh to see such a good turnout for the modifieds.

Ok I have been going to MCS ever scince they have opened. I love going to the races there. The main problem there is Mels dad. If he doesn't get him out of there that track will never make it. Theres no reason that Mel can't bring in The Challgen of Champions it only pays 2,000 to win. MARS only pays 2,000 to win and so does NALMS the drivers that follow these shows will go to any track running the show and they alone would pay for there payout with the crew and fans that foollow the them. What about the Summer Nationals? Because he didn't get the cars and people he wanted or because he couldn't get the date after Pevely. Give me a break it was the first year the track had the race and they had good crowd and almost like all but 5 drivers following the Summer Nationals were there. So after this year Mel probaly lost any chance of getting them back.
As for last Sat. Night there was nothing that could be done about the water truck breaking down. I was glad to see the drivers pull toghter and get the track ready to race. Would people have made this big of a deal if the water truck broke done at Pevely probaly not.

You have to love this board...!! You never know what you are going to read... It's fun to read everyone's honesty even if you don't necessarily agree with it.

With out Hammerle and Rumble there each week, thats three late models [counting Landrum in Hammers other car] that are'nt there. Those guys had a good fan following at MCS because they stuck with the track. Now I'm wondering whats going on. If anyone talks to Hammer or Rumble, ask them about it and post.

I talked to Hammerlee at Mt.Vernon & he said that the LM car count was low at MCS so he started taking his other car to try & help with the car count. He said that they didnt seem to appreciate what he was doing(trying to help them out) & the track prep was awful! He tried talking to the powers that be & they didnt seem to care so now he races at Mt.Vernon!!! I think it must be pretty bad when you run off one of the nicest guys around!!!

I hate to hear that. Sounds like alot of stubborness on both sides of the fence. Maybe more so on Mels part. Hopefully Mel can get some damage control going. If not Frankel,Collins ect. are'nt going to stay around much longer with the low car count. I really think MCS screwed up by not taking an alternate summernationals date. I hope the track can recover from that. Hate to see all this because I've been there since day one.

I can assuer you that gas prices have nothing to do with Mike Hammerle not going to MCS he went to Mt. Vernon which is much futher away from him.

MCS is not promoted right, and I have said that from the beginning. They need to bring in more "BIG SHOWS" and giving up the Summer Nationals was a mistake. The drivers liked the track. I agree with 55racefan55 on the fact they need to bring in other series such as the NALMS, UMP Challenge of Champions, MARS and the other series.

I know that NALMS is UMP and they would get UMP points. I know MARS is not UMP but you want drivers this is a way to get them in there.

So if they (the track and promoters) were concered they would do something about it. But instead they let everyone complain on here about it. The payout is NOT guaranteed and that is another problem with drivers not going to MCS. And they raised thier prices too!

Like Kamp Motor Speedway this Saturday night is running a NALMS/Challenge of Champions Race all in one, so drivers will get the UMP Points and the Challenge of Champions points along with NALMS series points, and they are only paying $2,000 to win. I bet they bring in the some cars though. I know for a fact Jeep Van Wormer will be there to attempt to qualify for the Challenge of Champions Extravaganza. FYI as of now this is the only C of C race Jeep will be running. Thanks-Danny

You would think with the track being realitivly new, Mel would've taken the July 11th date for the Summer Nationals. So what if it's on a Sunday. Right now Mel should take what they can get as far as dates go. Now they're basically screwed in the future because they hedged on the date they were given. Maybe Mel was thinking that since he could'nt get the date after Pevely, alot of people would'nt make the trip to MCS. The right decisions can make this track one of the best in the area. If the late model count does'nt improve, I won't attend the races EVERY weekend. We'll see what happens I guess.

No, Mel was promised a certain date for the Summer Nationals and then when they came out with the schedule they changed it on him without notice. Don't blame Mel about the Summer Nationals.

The schedule was not final when Mel chose his date and when it was final, he declined. So I do blame Mel, it is in the middle of summer, not like Mel does not run Sunday shows there anyway, Memorial Day Weekend, Labor Day Weekend those are two I can remember. Also MCS is one of the newest if not the newest track to take the Summer Nationals so they should not get "priority". I am sorry if this sounds rude, but to decline the Summer Nationals based on NOT getting them the day after I-55 is very poor management. This is just my opinion and not many people on here like me anyway so I guess it does not matter what I think. Thanks any way for reading my post. Thanks-Danny

Being one of the newest tracks on the summer nats tour I think they should take what they can get!!! J/M/O If im not mistaking Mt Vernon had the summer nats on a Thursday last year & the place was packed, we had a hard time getting a seat!!!!I dont care what night they give you, you take it!!!!!!!

I don't know the particulars of this subject, but I agree with sean2. If they had any opportunity at all for a summer nationals show they would have been wise to take it. The car counts would likely be good as well as the fan support, only making the track as a whole look good.

Some times you have to kiss a little *** to get ahead in the long run. I understand Mel was done wrong, hell I'd be pissed too, but you have to swallow your pride once in a while if the track is going to succeed. I just hope they get a chance next year for a SN date.

Mell was promised the same date for the summer nats. after the last year he was told that was his date. Well you know we have new guys running UMP because the of health problems for the old man. so low and behold Mells date gets puled and give to one of the ump promoters who own a track go figure. Plus do you belive it was fair to the racers to make them do all that extra traveling for the way they moved everthing around. Bad buisness from ump I can tell you that.

The driver are going to race wherever the race is. UMP spreads the races out for the fans. If All the Local tracks run all in the same week not everyone can go to them people work and it cost money to go to the races so after going to 3 or 4 races people are broke and there are still 3 or 4 more local tracks they want to go to. The drivers understand that its better for the tracks to do it this way.

July 9th Mara To Dang Midgets Then July 10th Regular Show Thenjuly 11th Would Have Been Summer Nats I Wonder Why He Declined
