Micro Sprints & USAC Midgets this weekend at DuQuoin!

Everything I know about the USAC Ford Focus Midget is that the chassis is the exact same as a regular USAC midget, the only difference is the sealed, crate motor from Ford.

Really? - MARA's purse is that much greater than that? They are paying more than a $1000 to win now? Could you please share the payout for a MARA show?

To me it sounds like the old fight on here about so called "real" late models with open motors vs. late models with motor limits. The crate motors are coming into nearly every area of racing, but I do not see them replacing everything that was already out there to start with. I think calling them Focus Midgets differentiates them enough from the more traditional type midget for most fans to understand.

Looking at the purse from a fan's perspective, the $15 admission seems a bit steep, but since we haven't seen live racing in STL for months now, I'll pay it. I think we all need a fix of live racing.

Does MARA even race around here besides Belleville? Maybe the Focus Midgets and Fastrack Late Models could be a touring series together. Call it "Crate Expectations"!

So does everybody think there will be plenty of cars there? I know a motorcross race a while back brought in 500 bikes and quads. Are there that many Focus migets and Micro sprints around?

The Bob Wente Classic at Granite and the races at Belleville were not MARA races. Also, the races at Belleville were all terrific shows that paid $1000.00 to win. The MARA web site shows 2004 races at Montgomery Co., Macon, Farmer City, Jacksonville, and Canton.

On another note, a USAC Ford Focus Midget is the same chassis as a MARA Midget. The primary difference B/T the two formulas is the Focus cars are narrower...and a little less H.P. ;)

I really don't understand the bashing of a Midget Series that will be racing 100 miles from home in the middle of winter. Midget racing seems to be a little fragile to handle the negativity in this economic slump.

Honestly folks, does the HP difference really amount to much in terms of lap time on a 1/6 mile track with 2 degree banking?

I agree with BroncoBilly, having midgets on dirt indoors in the middle of the winter is incredible. I cannot wait! Shoot, they had Dave Darland down their testing. That guy's an open wheel stud. I think it's going to be a heck of a show.

midgets on dirt in the middle of winter.... hmmm... they already do. it's called the chili bowl. and it's with real midgets, too!!! art.

Really? There's this thing called the chili bowl, down in Tulsa is it? ...at the Expo. Center? Beechler won that a few years ago, right?

Yea, I know about the Chili Bowl, but Duquoin is only a 100 miles away, plus USAC has shared that they are thinking that this may be the start of something down there.
"Real midgets", if you mean more MARA / USAC style may be coming to Duquoin in the future. But this is a good start!

Art,
For the drivers/families who could not afford the rising costs of the Deco engines in QMA, the new Honda classes helped keep, and attract new families in QMA. Quarter Midgets of America would not be the same without the Honda classes. In my eyes this is very similar to what I see with the Focus Midget and your "real" Midget comparisons.
In the long run, this may be good for the the "real" Midget racers. The Focus Midgets may be an excellent stepping stone for those who wish to be a "real" Midget racer.
I'll bet you'd feel different about this if there was a Chevy Cavalier Midget! ;)

P.S. did you get my e-mail about our meeting?

I'm not calling anyone names but simpily answering the question presented by the "tool", (LOL) I mean midget racer. Sorry, just had to say it.

Usually when I call someone a tool, or hear someone calling another person a tool I think of it as a slang term for idiot or dumbass.

Does this help?
