new I-55 sn rain date.....

The dream and world are $38 and $40, respectively. And the payout is $100,000 for the Dream (and it has the cheapest tickets) and the World is $38,000 (and that goes up $1000 every year).

Q, I am with you. I believe it could be done and would get more than enough fan support. Just in general conversation at the World, when talking about tracks we go to weekly, I've had people ask me why they don't run any bigger shows at Pevely.

Heck, I would just like to see the big shows that are currently there run more than 40 laps.

Well, I didn't include Eldora in my stats due to Eldora's capacity and history. I think Eldora is in a league all of it's own. But there's no reason why I-55 Raceway be in the company of these other tracks! I might be mistaken but I thought TTG said not too long ago on this forum that I-55 could be called Eldora West! Might not have been Mike that said that but I know someone did and I agree!!

I would love to see a show of that magnitude myself at Pevely, and no disrespect to Marler but I'd imagine if it was a money maker for the track then it would be done. Maybe there is more insurance and bonding liability, dunno. If Pevely ever decided to have something close to a $100,000 payout or even $25,000 could you imagine the turn out? It would take more than just a couple of days, and I'm not sure Marler has enough Tylenol lol.

I swear that I remember a 100 lap event at I-55 years ago. Just can't remember when or what it was. I might be making this up in my mind but I can vividly remember caution laps being counted to lap 75 or somewhere in that area. It was a modified/latemodel race from the 80's I believe. Remember seeing some modifieds and wedge late models with lexan everywhere!!! Either it happened or I've got a great imagination!!!! Probably the latter.

I mentioned those because those prices basically haven't changed in years! The World tickets did go up $2 last year or the year before but that isn't a major change.

The USA Nationals (formerly Outlaw Nationals) at Cedar Lake Speedway ticket prices have gone from $30 to $50 for a two day pass in the last 5 years.

The DTWC have typically been around $40 for a $50,000 to win show.

So it could be done and get the support.

Well, I for one would be more than willing to fork out $50 for a two day show at I-55 featuring latemodels for $25,000 or more to win. I also noticed that the topless race at Batesville pays $200 to start the B-Main! $2,000 to start the feature!

Alltel paid the entire $100,000 winners purse. Those companies are not that easy to find. Sponsors for Busch and truck races most of the time don't have that much money invested. How do you sale a corporation on investing that much money when you have no TV coverage. Your lucky if you can get our local newspapers to even run a small article about racing in the area.

Mooney Starr has to be right up there next to Earl when it comes to promoting. I also believe there was a $100 entry fee for cars in the Alltel 100.Then the drivers had to by pit pass that ranged from $20 to $35 for 6 straight days of racing. Two of the days there was no payout because they had open practice and qualifying only.

The Nationals at Pevely used to be a two day show. I personally think that 25,000 is a good start, but the race would have to pay a heck of alot more down the line than the Nationals does to be reasonable. You also couldn't run it this year (or if you did you would have to make sure you stay clear of the WoO schedule). 50 laps is about as much as I'd want to see though. I don't understand why a big paying race should be a 100 laps. Very seldom does extending a race past 40 laps ever make it more exciting. In fact I believe it to do the opposite. If you have 80-100 late models and you run a bunch of 12 lap heats. There is plenty of racing going on.

Both points are understandable. But a good $25,000 to win with a good payout through the field would be a fantastic thing. And it doesn't need to be a two day event. It you run a special show with just latemodels and modifieds wouldn't there be enought time to run 6 heats a piece and a semi or two?

Right, you could do it in one day. In fact, I bet you'd have a better car turn out to make it a one day show. I read an article within the last couple of years that talked about 2 day shows vs. 1 day shows and most of the drivers preferred the one day format.

Don't forget, Q, that big shows usually qualify the late models. That right there could take half the night. No support, just late models.

I would sell my soul for a big 2 day event at I-55. This is something that the track is more than capable of supporting. Plenty of seats (more than Bardstown, in my opinion, where the DTWC is held), and more than enough facility for all the people.

In fact, if parking does become a problem, I'm sure something could be arranged with the Wal-Mart in Festus, and people could be bussed up. :p

A little off topic ,But what happened to the wed. shows they had a few years back?It was cool going to the races wed,and sat.

Back to the topic of hosting a "big" LM show...I put some numbers on paper and this is what I come up with. Just kind of an idea of a late model purse of $90,000.00 One night show would be perfect. 55 lap feature would be good.

1. $20,000.00 to win
2. $12,000.00
3. $8,000.00
4. $6,500.00
5. $5,000.00
6. $4,500.00
7. $4,000.00
8. $3,500.00
9. $3,000.00
10. $2,500.00
11. $2,000.00
12. $1,750.00
13. $1,500.00
14. $1,400.00
15. $1,350.00
16. $1,300.00
17. $1,250.00
18. $1,200.00
19. $1,150.00
20. $1,100.00
21. $1,050.00
22. $1,000.00
23. $1,000.00
24. $1,000.00
Roughly $5,000.00 for the cars who did not transfer through a consi.

Anyway, not sure what the attendance is for shows like the Summernationals or fall nationals. If you got 4,000 people at $30/head that is $120,000.00 in gate money. I know there are a lot of other expenses and risks out there, this is just food for thought.

Guaranteed sell out for a big show, it'd be like bringing in the WoO sprints in....shoulder to shoulder, go to the bathroom before the show and don't drink too much beer because you ain't goin' nowhere for a while type of crowd. :D

You'd be looking at around 5000 people, at least, maybe more.

$30/head, plus pit passes at let's say.....$45/head, that's a lot of money. $$$$

Moonflow 5000 is a little high. You would be suprised at how many little ones count towards that number and they get in free.
