off with spoilers says sammy ump

How many front running, ump points chasing drivers do you think would give their high dollar motor up for a exchange of who knows what and 500$??? It dont seem to me like that would be a logical decision.... just my 2¢

I agree with the not logical to spend 20,0000 plus to race but ask the big Imca teams what they spend on there spec motors you may be surprised. KEEP THE RULES THE WAY THEY ARE UMP IS KNOWN FOR PRETTY MUCH RUN WHAT YA BRUNG PEOPLE, lets keep it that way. You go messing with the bigger teams and see what happens to all the big paying races as far as fans in the stands. Wont be pretty, who wants to watch "Joe Blow" compete with "John Doe", fans love to watch the bigger teams show up and compete against the locals its called ENTERTAINMENT.

UMP is such a joke if they think the spoilers are gonna make a difference, gotta agree if you can't afford to run with the class move to a different one. Race within your means and leave us alone.

Going to the IMCA type tires would help level the playing field on the engines. One thing nobody has mentioned is the guys spending $1500-2500 on a set of shocks, which are also claimable. I say go to a harder/stiffer tire like the IMCA tire (hoosier already makes one) , take the spoilers off, and outlaw schrader valve/rebuildable shocks.

But gee, that sounds like an E-mod class. Maybe that's what everybody that doesn't want to buy a big engine needs to go to...

how about not changing anything on them already got my car done. If they havr that kind of money to spend on shocks good for them, but thats were a fool and his money seperates because I no people who dont have and run up front. JUST RUN ANOTHER CLASS IF YOU CAN'T AFFORED IT. I don't have alot of money but I love running mods and there is not one person twisting my arm to do it, I choose to do it and spend the money that came along with it.

That kind of attitude will insure racing becomes a "rich people" sport thereby reducing the number of cars and teams you will racing against. Keeping the sport at least reasonably affordable ensures the largest amount of possible teams and cars and increasing the competition and excitement for fans and drivers. Ask your self this, "Would I still go to the race track and compete, if only ten guys could afford to race with me? The answer is NO. I know this already because the track manager all over the country that have already adopted your theory have experienced low car counts and so did the fan count and the money the track was making, forcing foreclosure.

Good Post Lizardracing.

Just because some people like myself say that the upper classes motors and shocks, etc are way outta hand isnt just me giving my opinion on the costs being way out of hand. Do we all want some place to race? I know i do. But if the costs of all these classes keep going up and the price isnt controled in some form or fashion we may see tracks start to shut down. All of the divisions have grown way out of hand. The modifieds and late models havent really changed much in the past years. Technology has though which has shot the cost of racing sky high. 8-10 years ago you wouldnt see 800 horsepower motors out there. On Christmas Eve we were watching videos of racing from back in the early 2000's. Full fields of cars in all divisions and much tighter racing. The economy has some impact on these things but not as much as the rules. For the lower divisions (sportsmans, street stocks, pro 4's) alot would be controlled if tech was put in place. As the saying goes "just throw out the rules book"...Thats really about right. Why waste the money and time with meetings and what not because 90% of the things are never followed. Which in turn leads to cheating and more money being spent.

Things like this have been said by many others for sometime now. Nothing has changed yet and never will so its all a waste of time to even express our opinions on these type of matters.

I had a wise engine guy tell me years ago. If you want to even up the playing field and limit engine dollars. Limit valve springs, not a spec spring. Just limit open and closed seat pressures. When you limit pressures your going to limit lift and RPM. You can check a whole bank of cylinders in almost the same time it would take to puff a single cylinder

The simple fact is racing has turned big business for some. It's now trickled down and got a firm hold on local racing too. When people like the fine folks at UMP took over what Bob Memmer started, it became about what kinda money can be made. Local racing isn't your average working mans sport anymore and probably never will be again. Yeah maybe a purestock or a pro 4 but not mods and late models. But as long as these sanctions allow all the latest and greatest inventions manufactures come up with to come in as long as they get a payoff it will only get more expensive. Ump will Never go away from the sh!t box tire they have now in the E-mod. They make too much money off screwing the racers that have to buy them. Their not gonna give you a tire that last longer, that would be bad BUSINESS!!!! Racers and promoters need to wake up and realize they have the power. Sanctions like UMP need them more than they need UMP. Instead of putting up with this craziness and going broke and having to quit racing, and promoters watching their car counts drop below profitability, take the bull by the horns and dump this mess and get class rules where people can justify getting into or staying in the sport. I'd rather go to a track and watch classes that aren't so high dollar and have a full field than go where they have Super Late models and big horsepower mods and have 10 in a class. NO "local" racers make enough UMP point fund money to make it worth while to chase if you figure in what is spent chasing it. I sure hope those in charge making the decisions don't think they can't price local racing right out of existence! Just look at how many tracks have gone to the waste side within 100 miles of STL!!

Leave the cars alone, there are plenty of classes to choose from, find one you can afford, and race! And anybody that has 800hp is wasting money,650hp will get it done just about anywhere you go,if your car is working! And if you want to save money on engines,go to your promoter and tell him we don't need a heavy track and a cushion every night, then you might see 550hp budget engines winning again!

good lord removing the spoilers will not do it at all but something needs to be done they are getting out of hand.

650 or 800? Give me the 800, sure its more than I need but with my limited knowledge I'd still think I'm faster with more than less. Sure it will not make me a front runner all the time but chances would be better. As for the spoiler? why not get rid of it for a season then have a company come out with an UMP official version that comes with a cool $ticker.
