question for other drivers

I really prefer the racing shoes over tennis shoes. I forgot my shoes once last year and had to wear tennis shoes. I didn't have the feel of the pedals that I liked and my shoes were bulky and would catch a little on the clutch pedal. (I have size 13 feet) Plus the added safety of the racing shoe is a must. I'll never forget them again. JMO

OK genius !! I do beleive they are a few bike racers that would beg to differ w/ you?? As far as racing on your track. I might go to jail for knocking your goofy *** out !! So now ***** !! I live @ 203 e. 13 street centralia iL. Why dont you come show me what I dont know?? I dont give a damn WHAT you have to say !! FACTS a bike has no protection!! A stock car w/ a cage has plenty !!Another fact lets see how fast the cars are going and how fast the bikes are going on a flat track ?? If your brain will go that high?? And by the way ART I AM trying to be a DICK!!

here we go. another totally mis-informed racer trying to appear intelligent. let me say this, mr. bolo.. if you want to race in a dangerous sport with sub-standard safety equipment, then knock yourself out. because that is exactly what you are doing. m rating helmets do not offer the protection that the snell 95 or 2000 helmets do.that is a fact, and i have the knowledge/ experience/ info to back up what i say. WHY DO YOU THINK THAT THEY WOULD EVEN BOTHER WITH A M RATING, IF THERE WASN'T A DIFFERENCE? think about it, next time you think you have a better idea and are gonna run your mouth.. i have been an official in an open wheel series' many years now, and, if you showed up at one of the races i officiate with a disregard for safety like this, you would be a spectator that night; NOT a driver. not because i want to be a d!ck, but because i have to look out for obvious safety violations. guys like you scare me... you think you know it all, but it is real clear you don't , but are going to anyway. brandon was right.. the top level racing orgs. do not allow m rated helmets in competition.. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. bolo.. stick to what you know, and ask if you don't know.. don't just call people 'nuts' just because they are saying something you don't understand. as far as the nomex lining, the use of a head sock is acceptable if the helmet itself is not nomex lined. thanks, art.

A stock car with a cage gives you more places to crack your head open, if you think about it. The inside of a stock car has many more impact hazards built into it when you compare it to a bike, where there is no enclosure to hit when you go down. Bike racers dont hit their heads directly on anything, generally, the crashes they are involved in tend to be more glancing blows off the track while tumbling over and over. Which is why they tend to get more broken necks, collar bones, and fractured wrists.

people are going to believe what they want to believe, no matter how many people quote facts to the contrary. fine... but i do know this... if anybody out there races against this guy, be VERY afraid!! not afraid of getting beat, but because this guy has no regard for safety... his or yours.bolo.. i would say stick to driving a tow truck, but that is an insult to the lots of good tow truck guys out there; and i can't do that. art.

Back to the original question. It depends on the size of your feet. If you have big feet you can't get away with wearing anything but. Small feet I don't think it would be as much of a problem. I wear size 12 and with tennis shoes, as close as the brake and clutch are, its nearly impossible.

If you want to lose your feet, wear tennis shoes. If you want to appear an A.S.S. then you can either make fun of your fellow racers for being safe, or you can just strap on the ol' bolo biker helmet.....

What was that MPH again Art? 160 down the backstretch at S'field???

i prefer driving shoes over tennis shoes for the reason of the smaller thinner shoe allows u to fell the tires break loose!

160 mph show me that on dirt!! On any one of these 1/4 mile tracks!! WOOPS I FORGOT CAN'T be done!!! FACTS IS FACTS!! Crap is CRAP !! Now if you are running nascar?? Well then I would have to say you BETTER get the best for saftly!! And of coarse you want to be as safe as possable on all tracks. But ' as far as saing that a good motorcycle helmet is not safe?? Well that goes w/ your 160 mph on the track >> You are talking some CRAP!!

ed.. it's called a usac midget ON THE MILE at springfield, and i did it,thank you. but i don't expect you to believe or understand it, because you are too busy talkin' trash. get on the snell website, or call any of the helmet manufacturers, and ask them what/why/how, etc. did you ever think that just maybe someone out there knows a bit more than you do about a particular subject? i do, and that's when i listen and learn. i have to. it's my job. because when i am working, i have to be as good as i can be. maybe someone's life will depend on it someday. it may already have. but you are too busy being ignorant and running you mouth, that you are totally missing the point. that is your right, and i respect that right. but, truly, ed, you absolutely couldn't be any more wrong about this, and all of your rambling, and threatening to beat me up, etc., just proves how uninformed and immature you really are. that's a shame. just check out what i am saying, because you obviously don't believe me, and that's fine... i don't care.. you don't race an open wheeled midget, so i don't ever have to scrape your brains off of a roll cage... but will you also argue with the people that manufacture them? my bet is you really don't want to know for sure, because you would rather talk trash on this post. prove me wrong here, ed. with facts, not b.s. thanks,art.

OK guys Go to the link you posted for me. Now show me the dif. Between the motorcycle and the car?? From what I was reading and from the photos they show. It is pretty hard to tell the dif. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for?? Man I just do not get what the dif. really is?? They seem basicly the same to me??

thanks, hound. hopefully mr. bolo will visit this (snell) website, and learn something from it. the FAQ link was particularly informative. about how the sa helmet has to pass a rollbar impact test, while an m rated helmet does not. this is DAM good information,guys. it may save your life someday. thanks again, hound! thanks,art.

Ed,
Found this under the FAQ section of the Snell site.(http://www.smf.org/faqs.html) It answers the question you asked.

Q)What are the differences between the SA, M and K standards?

Answer: SA Standard was designed for auto racing while M Standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. There are three major differences between them:

1) SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not;
2) SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets may not be street legal);
3) SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.

The K standards are very similar to the SA standards, however the K standards omit the requirements for flame retardency.

Well, I have been around racing for a lot of years and have really not paied to much about helmets, you know snell 2000 OK were in there, well I just checked my helmet and its a snell 2000 (M), I did not know this when I bought it! It is cool with flames and chekard flag, and I used it last year, Well guess what its gone!Going to buy a new one for this year, ALSO make sure that ya get the new Simpson snell 2005 fire proof CUP never know where you are going to burst into flames!! Know what I mean Vern..
