stlracing: UMP claimed bryan collins (brant kehrer's) engine and they refused to have it taken and t

Bottom line is the rules are the rules. It does not matter if you want to race the following day or not. There is NO reason to reject the claim. Every team and driver is well aware of the claim rule. This class has stuggles with integrity because teams have been caught cheating. Everyone thinks that everyone else is cheating and people are getting tired of hearing about it. I would hope that the motor is LEGAL and I would want the team and UMP to state it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that 92K hasn't won a feature all year. Infact, has it even won a heat race? If that car is cheated up, then that's the most unsuccessful cheat job ever.

Maybe this team wanted to race on Sunday night and didn't want to go through all the work of taking the motor out and putting another one in. Maybe they were tired of having ump tech their motor. Or maybe the motor was in fact illegal. Look their number up and give them a call.

what good would calling them do? no matter what they are going to tell you the motor is legal. whether it is or not is a completely different story.

Bryan was asked to drive this car. Bryan drove it and kicked butt. He did not finish first, he finished second. To claim that Bryan refused to give up the motor is incorrect!!!! Not his car, Not his motor to give up.

You're right. That was most likely a Joe Kehrer decision.

I remember hearing that UMP will provide you with a crate motor (either 602 or 604 based on what you're currently running) so that you can continue to run while yours is being teched. for whatever reason they refused to have it teched, I'm sure Joe Kehrer payed the fine for Bryan.

How true, We havent won a feature in 5 years and most of the time ran in the middle or the back of the pack but 2 months ago we got into a faster kart with a faster (legal) motor and now we can keep up. So I can see how/why UMP would want to check the motor and find out why all of a sudden this car is a winner. They have checked us and still cry that a back marker car is now a winner. F**k em I said. We were happy to show them our motor to shut them up so the long list of crap like this would stop and we could keep racing without all the B/S so why again wont anyone come on here and back up there decission right or wrong? Just like someone posted earlyer it realy dont matter anyway if you call em or post it they will tell you it was ok anyway so I guess this is a dead subject. I don't think anyone is blaming Collins. A decission like that is normaly the car owners call anyway. Shure makes for a great story anyway. We need a few more to do this right before winter sets in so we all have something to carry on about over the winter. (Including me) :D Have a safe winter and stay warm it's going to be a cold one I think:D

The 92K car has been a mid pack car all year. When Brant filled in for Faust in the 92b it became a back of the pack car. Billy jumps back in it and won 2 features. Now Collins jumps in the 92k car and finishes 2nd. See a trend. I would imagine the 92k & the 8 cars a identical except for lettering. There is definitely a motive behind the refusal, but I don't think has anything to do with being legal or not.

I'm pretty sure the difference in the car was the cat turning the wheel. ;) I'm not trying to bash Brant Kehrer. He's a young driver that has gotten better but still has a lot to learn. He's surrounded by good people and he will learn. Bryan Collins is a legit driver though. Collins is a proven winner with over 100 feature wins and several track championships. I think it's safe to say that Bryan Collins can get much more out of that car than Brant Kehrer can. It really is a shame for Bryan Collins that he got caught up in this issue.

While we are on the subject of claims. I thought the shocks on the "Black Pearl" were suppose to be claimed this weekend? I guess the guy boasting about it misunderstood what he heard in his buddies garage. Anybody???

They asked bryan when he crossed the scales he had to make the decision at that point to give it up or not he did not have a chance to ask joe or any one when he told them it was not his motor to give up he they would have to talk to the owner they dq him.....as for the motor brant kehrer was at the fence telling people that was the motor out of the 8 car and they switched this week

well if all that is true i see no reason why anyone would not stand behind collins. sounds like gundakers wasnted dauderman to finish higher and not see giving joe kehrer more money.

What do the Gundakers have to do with a UMP claim?????

UMP was there with 2 crate exchange motors and were going to take the 2nd place finisher no matter who it was. It was UMP who decided who's engine to look at. The track (Gundakers) had nothing to do with it.

that is the most idiotic thing i have heard in a while if they dq 2nd place the whole field moves up not just dauderman and kevin doesnt say who gets claimed its ump

Lesson to be learned...If you're asked to drive a crate...ask the owner if he's willing to give up a claim BEFORE racing the car. LOL

Maybe UMP should also look into their own claims process so that drivers aren't put on the spot at the scales. When Collins said he doesn't own the car, UMP should have sent someone to the pits to talk to Joe so he could make a decision. Putting Bryan Collins on the spot like that is kind of Bush League in my opinion. Those UMP officials know enough about what is going on to know that the car Collins was driving wasn't his. What was Bryan supposed to say in that situation?

Why does it have to be decided at the scales anyways? Why can't they follow him into the pits and let them decide there? It's not as if there would be enough time to correct anything illegal. I think UMP should use a little common sense in cases like this.

If that is what happened, then I do understand why Bryan would be hesitant to make the decision, as it is not his car. But I am certain that there was a track official and a ump official standing at the scales. All they had to do was have the track official get on the radio and call to get a representative from the team to come to the scales immediately to make the decision. When it was stated that they were claiming the motor, and Bryan stated that it was not his decision to make, the officials also could have escorted him to the pits to get the owner to make the final decision.

Yeah that doesn't make much sense. Maybe UMP should make it a rule that when they select the car to claim, they owner has no choice and must give it up for inspection. If you are not cheating then why would it be a problem? They give you a motor to use while yours is getting inspected and it is a pain to change one out to race the next day...So maybe UMP should offer a $100 dollar reward to every legal motor inspected and returned ready to put in to help with the time put in by the teams to reinstall the motor...I think they are headed in the right direction and should keep enforcing the rules. Everyone knows Bryan is legit!!! Tough break...

That rule proposal would likely get struck down by any legal challenges because a car is the private property of the owner and not the property of UMP. You can't force a guy to give up his motor. You can however tell him that if he doesn't he's no longer welcome to race any UMP sanctioned events.

in the racing world, it is generally understood that once the car is rolled(pushed or driven) onto the racing surface, it is considered presented for competition. that means you intend do race it AS IT IS NOW.; it also means that it is subject to inspection AT ANY TIME. also, the driver is just as guilty of an infraction as the owner/crew chief. thats why in nascar, when kyle busch's car failed post race because the rr fender was too low, he pays just as big of a penalty as the owner/chief. we all know that collins had not a dam thing to do with the engine, legal or not, but unfortunately he knew the rules going in, or at least should have. thats just part of the business. unfair? maybe, but eliminates the excuse of "i didn't know about that".... everyone knows drivers' dont fib at all, right?
