stlracing: UMP claimed bryan collins (brant kehrer's) engine and they refused to have it taken and teched. collin dq'd.

The only rason I know of, for them not to let them tech it,would be called illegal.I would certainly take a new motor at the end of the season.

That would really help Dauderman out also.Mustang,it was said that you dont get a new engine for the one that is teched but get it back in basket case form if it is legal.

is this the same engine that was just taken(at tcs) during the summer? korte was driving the car then? maybe it's a deal where it cost them more to have it gone through and reassembled that what they would have won in prize money. in that case, if they are not in the championship battle, then they would be (money-wise) better off. i am asking this in question form, not saying this as fact, because i don't know. anyone agree or disagree?

since they refused the claim, what will be the penalty, if any since we are at seasons end? if so will it be carried over into 2010? can this effect collins in the supers? what happens next???

I believe that if it is legal UMP pays for the rebuild if I am not mistaken. I wouldn't think money is an issue with that car anyway.....

Jeff Walston refused a claim in the crate class this year at Paducah and was fined $1,000. The fine had to be paid before he could race in any UMP division again. I don't see how Collins issue is any different......

???

I understand its a $1000.00 fine the first time you refuse and has to be paid before you can run a UMP event again and the second time you refuse to let them have it it is a 1 year suspension from said date before you can aquire UMP points again and additional $1000.00 fine? Is this true?

thanks,sean... the perception is(at least mine), is that that team is very well financially backed, so, $1k is probably no big deal;but... sometimes it becomes a 'the principal of the thing' issue. i can't believe this team would cheat.. too much to lose, not enough to gain. again, my perception only.not that it matters.

or

UMP gives you back your motor in a basket and they buy you the gaskets,,,,top teams probably pay more than $1000.00 to have the motor assembled

UMP will completely reassemble the engine exactly the way they got it with new gaskets and such.

Or if you want to freshen your engine since they have it disassembled, they will give it back to you unassembled.

Ok good for UMP now most everyone on here has or knows someone so still the question is Why did they refuse to give up the motor knowing they will get a fine or even give the team a bad name over something legal?

This is an interesting situation. I hate to see Collins put into the middle of it. Lets hear something from the team as to why the claim was refused. Lets hear something from UMP as to what the penalty is going to be. The $1,000 fine is ridiculous. If the motor was legal why wouldnt they let them take it? Take it out, have it checked, put it back together, and put it back into the car, simple enough. Prove to everyone that it is completely legal. Everyone is complaining that they dont tech these cars enough and then when they do, the claim is refused. By refusing the claim they will be labeled as cheaters as there is no reasonable explaination as to why they would refuse the claim.

Maybe this team wanted to race on Sunday night and didn't want to go through all the work of taking the motor out and putting another one in. Maybe they were tired of having ump tech their motor. Or maybe the motor was in fact illegal. Look their number up and give them a call.
