stlracing: UMP claimed bryan collins (brant kehrer's) engine and they refused to have it taken and t

To try and paint a picture that UMP's tech is so good this year is a joke! The UMP National Championship team was on here two weeks ago challenging UMP to do more tech because that team who had ran 40 races this year had only been teched 4 times out of those 40 races. I know another team that raced nearly 40 races and was teched 3 times, out of those three times they checked the tires twice and lifted the hood once.

You would be foolish to think UMP's tech procedures are deterring any thoughts of cheating.........JMO!

Thats why they should make rules that would allow the tracks to tech..Wouldnt take long, and you wouldnt need a ump official at every event.Just use track tech.Allied sportsman rules would be very easy to tech.Sure there will be some guys still pushing the rules, but if caught cheating , you are out all upm events for year from the infraction.Fines wont stop it, but suspending them will.Atleast anyone that wants to run UMP.

To imply that any sanctioning body's tech is working to deter cheating is not really accurate. No point in just pointing a finger solely at UMP. Just look at how many engines have been busted in the last 2 years for being illegal, up to and including Team Dillon, the poster boys for high dollar crate racing. From the very moment the first promoter said "rebuilding these engines is a way to reduce the cost for the racers who own them so we're going to allow it and have approved rebuilders" the class has gotten more expensive to be competitive in, and the completely legal access to the internals has led to everything else. The first guy who said its ok to rebuild these engines has a lot of responsibility for what this class has turned into.

Very well said Todd. Once it was made public as to rebuilding a motor that was to be a motor that you were not supposed to touch..wammo. When they rebuild them...if it needs bored guess what? More horsepower due to extra cubic inches. Camshafts have been changed to increase horses as well. This has been documented. And the Team Dillon incident displays why this class has gotten out of hand in a heartbeat. I proposed this long ago and was laughed at. But why dont they do this. Several builders have deals on steel block motors and they are 2000 to 3000 dollars cheaper than what a crate motor costs. Hmmm. Why dont they set up a deal with one of these builders to where the builder supplies their motor which is sealed and a 355 cubic inch rule. Nothing else. All 355's. All same heads cams pistons rods cranks ect ect and so on. Its cheaper!. Run hyd cams so they cant turn these motors anywhere over 6500. Love to see a 8.5 to 1 comp rule. Ypu will only get so much out of that motor. Run 1 compound of tire. Nothing else. No cannister shocks!!! Want to run those.....go with the big boys since you got money to spend on them. If you need cannister shocks to use as a crutch in a class that is supposed to be economical......you need to really ask yourself if your a true racer. Steel driveshafts. Wonder....how many are running aluminum or carbon fiber shafts? 1 gear ratio per track!!!! There is something to even the field. Heard some of the current crates?? Some are turning some rpm's well above what they are supposed to(we know why...but wont go there). Not really another sportsman class this way and gives a guy a way to race a late model and get the feel of it plus make the racing(here is the key word) cheaper.

Personally i think UMP has done the best they could or can do with their tech. Least they tech. Pull motors and check tires. What other class offers a motor for you to use as they inspect yours? Hey when UMP took this class i was really not happy either. They have shown in the past(aka sportsman class) that they just cant seem to get 1 set of rules together and use them. But they have in this case.

yep tell us how it should be done:D:D:D:D

hey sean; everytime you get on here, is to bash UMP. although NO racing association is perfect, and they all have their faults, i have to ask 1 question. what was your tech procedure in the CARS ASSOCIATION? how many engines did you completely(or nearly) disassemble? as i recall, you yourself were on here advertising engine work, and as i recall, the price varied depending on the work requested; now, this can easily be taken that if i wanted an engine cheated up, and i came to the table with an extra ($pick a number) i could walk out with a clearly illegal engine, while the budget guy behind me just got bearings and gaskets. after all, i just "bought" the tech guy,or even the director(you, sean), knowing that if ever questioned, certainly you are not going to find your own engine illegal. clearly, one of the biggest conflicts of interest EVER in the history of motorsports, imo. i guess you forgot about all of that, huh? it kinda makes we wonder if you are still pissed that somehow you didn't get the UMP gig you were hoping for.....

Wow, I figured the usual suspects would show up with the usual comments and turn this into a bash Sean thread...LOL...no biggie, I expected it sooner to be honest........

If you can't win the argument start the bashing and name calling.....typical for most on this board!

As I said, You would be foolish to think UMP's tech procedures are deterring any thoughts of cheating.........JMO!

And as far as that goes, we can still build you an engine for this class per UMP rules....many wins, track championships and track records, with a championship as well in the crate class.... just give us a call....LMAO!!!!

ok sean; your reply is clearly why you are in the situation you are in. racing and otherwise. i stated facts, and a very reasonable hypothetical scenario. you resorted to your typical smoke and mirrors. since you quoted me, what name did i call you? i saw no name calling. just factual info. did you not do exactly as i said you did? you have done more bashing on here than anyone, yet you accuse others of bashing. i asked you a point blank question about about your tech procedures and history, but you avoided that like the plague... quit avoiding the facts, sean, and answer the dam question? it's really not that tough ...but, then again, it's clear you have always had something to hide.

Look Mr. Knepper (sp?) I don't know you from Adam as the same for you with me... I am not sure what you are implying here??

As for the basic tech procedures that i did on a regular basis.... before most events a visual inspection of the engines to make sure they were even a crate engine and had ALL THE SEALING BOLTS in them, posted the accurate weight for the engine in the car so the guy at the scales knew what the car was to weigh, durometer tires before races and some after. Carb sizes were checked, valve springs were checked, carb spacers and some rocker arms for the top 3 or so on about any given night. As for complete tear downs, that was not my department, hell I didn't even know when engines were being claimed! If you was around and knew who I was you would already know that, but you just jumped on the bash Sean bandwagon...LOL

Here is some constructive critisism.... UMP and the tracks need to get together and figure a better way to police it or as said by some others, just go back to steel blocks....It's JMO Art.

Nothing to hide here.......

As for a gig with UMP or any other sanctions/promotions....no thanks, I am doing just fine where I am.....;)

If you want limit a class the 2 easiest things to do and police are!! Valve spring pressures and gear ratios.

so, you check tires for durometer test(nothing mentioned by you about tire softening additives/treatments) check weight of the car, make sure sealing bolts are there, maybe remove/check carb, and remove the valve cover and take a look? thats it? ump does all that they do(very well documented in this and prior posts, incl. confiscating tires) and you got the nerve to be critical of ump tech procedures? granted , it's not perfect, but it's clearly light years ahead of what you did.. i am sure that ump knows how to contact you, should they need someone of your expertise. thanks for answering the question. art knepper.

Art, how many times have you been to a crate race, pre race tech and post race tech? How many have you seen and or participated in? Fastrak, CARS, UMP, NeSmith/StormPay and/or any other??????? Please tell me where do you get your vast knowledge from?

that's not the point, and what would that matter, anyway?i am not stupid as to racing related things, sean; don't EVER think that i am... BIG MISTAKE ON YOUR PART. i am not the one on here bashing ump. you are! and i am merely doing a public service to all crate fans reminding them as to why you are not in charge anymore. have a great day, being happy where you are; i just want you to be happy, sean!!

OK Mr. Knepper, that makes you the WINNER!!

Now I will move along and you can all start your hi-five'n.............
