The "Battle of the Bullring" 2018 begins!

Debbie Cummins

Bomber Momma #19
It's finally here! The day my boys go on their 4th trip to the "Battle of the Bullring" in Humboldt, Kansas. Bruce and Jimmy left this morning on their trek to racing history. I have the doggies here, of course. So far so good, with no battles yet between my Buddy, Boon and 'Lil Bits, aka "Hollywood", but I don't call him that..

Jimmy drives up to the house and I hear extreme cursing from Bruce! Now what? The trailer has a flat tire on the right rear back wheel. After changing the tire in the street in front of the house, unloading all of the dog supplies, loading Bruce's stuff and food, they were off. Let's hope they don't have anymore problems on their journey!!

Tonight is practice at the track, with the actual racing starting tomorrow (Thursday). B-Mods and A-Mods. As far as I know, Doug Tye (B-Mod) and Robbie Eilers (A-Mod) are also going. Anybody else from here going?

Good Luck to all of our "618 guys"!!! Time to put the dogs out again....

Jimmy and Bruce got there about 3:37 p.m. (that's when he sent me a text that they were "pulling up to the hummer". No more flat tires for them, but Robbie Eilers had one on the way. I haven't heard from Doug Tye yet, but I'm hoping he got there safe, too.

Jimmy drew the following pills: 95, 74, 33, and 66 out of 130. He said they go by passing points. Practice tonight. First time running this new car for Jimmy.

The doggies are doing very well, in case you're worried about them and me. We got through suppertime with no fights! Yea!

Practice is over and the car was GOOD! Only a few minor changes to be made tomorrow. They're back at the hotel now. Shawn Strong is there. Gene Morton's son JC Morton, also, with a car he's only had for 2 weeks!

Parking goes like this...Doug Tye, Tom Rorabacher, Jimmy Cummins, and Robbie Eilers. We have 4 guys there this year! Apparently all went well tonight for everybody. Breakfast at the hotel is over at 9:00 a.m. Tech starts at 11:00 a.m. More news tomorrow.

Doggie news...one little battle over the Beggin' Strips, even though I fed Boon first. He still thought he should have Buddy's treat, too. Boonie is in the doghouse!

Not much news coming out of Humboldt from my guys. I did ask Jimmy how he did in tech this morning...he said he had one minor thing to change (didn't say what) and Robbie Eilers had to take his mufflers off. Hopefully they talk more this afternoon?

Jimmy got a new car? What does he have now? Did he stick with a shaw? Or do you know?

Yes he did. At the very end of last season on Sept. 27, he sold his Shaw car to Billy Knebel Jr. so Billy could race the Oct. 5-6-7 races at Tri-City. Jimmy had it for sale and wanted to get a new car anyway. He bought a 2006 Lightning chassis and has spent the entire winter months since then building it. They just got it done in time to go to Humboldt, which was the plan all along. Practice last night was the first time he actually drove it (other than up and down his street) on Tuesday.
Lots of work, but it kept Bruce busy during retirement, which made me happy, too. ;)

Tom Rorabacher - heat 4, 4th row in
Doug Tye - heat 5, starting 4th
Jimmy Cummins - heat 11, starting 4th, Robbie Eilers' is right behind Jimmy

Jimmy says it's on myracepass.com but I haven't found it yet.

I found it on MyRacePass. They have pretty quick updates there. Thanks, though for keeping us updated the best that you can. One day, we will make it out there with them.

Robbie Eilers finished 3rd and Jimmy Cummins was 5th in the 11th heat race. Jimmy spun around on his own (?) on lap 2 and was put to the rear. then worked his way up to 5th. Robbie just steadily went forward to 3rd! Mr. Smooth! The announcer is talking a lot about the boys from Illinois who keep coming back!

Next group of heat races... Jimmy says the track is really slick!

Doug Tye starts on the pole in heat 13
Tom Rorabacher starts 5th in heat 14
Robbie Eilers starts 7th in heat 15
Jimmy Cummins starts 3rd in heat 18

Tom Rorabacher finished 8th in his second heat race.

Robbie Eilers finished 4th in his second heat race.

2 more races and then Jimmy's in heat 18.

2nd heat race damage 3-1-2018.jpg
Jimmy did so good! The blue 37K car did Jimmy dirty on the start and knocked him back to 5th. Jimmy battled back and ran 4th for most of the race. The last lap or two, he went for 3rd and got it! Some damage to the new car, though. The 37K car won it. Guess you have to drive dirty to win. I knew the "saw" was coming out after that hit.

Thursday, March 2, 2018, Day #2 of "The Battle of the Bullring" continues...
Robbie Eilers is ranked 18th, Doug Tye is 27th, Jimmy Cummins is 41st, Tom Rorabacher is 96th, out of 120 B-Mods there.
JC Morton is 50th, Shawn Strong is 69th, Muilenberg is 84th, and Gilmore is 117th.

Bruce is fixing the side panels and messing with the generator, which they have to run due to no hook-ups. Jimmy is trying to keep his cool. The dogs are being lazy right now.

Heat race line-ups for tonight:
Heat 4 - Tom Rorabacher starts 5th
Heat 8 - Doug Tye starts 1st on the pole, Robbie Eilers starts 7th
Heat 11 - Jimmy Cummins starts 5th

Heat 15 - Doug Tye starts 5th
Heat 18 - Robbie Eilers starts 6th
Heat 19 - Tom Rorabacher starts 4th, Jimmy Cummins starts 6th

Then there is a Special Race #1 - Jimmy Cummins starts 4th (I don't know what this one is?)

Results of first set of heat races:
Tom Rorabacher finished 5th
Robbie Eilers finished 5th and Doug Tye finished 8th
Jimmy Cummins finished 4th

Bruce told me what the special race is all about....Jimmy is representing the State of Illinois with an Illinois flag to carry because he has been to all 4 races. The first time he went to Humboldt was their first race in this series that is now 4 years old. Awesome!
