I'm going to respectfully disagree with the "only rich guys win the points fund."
I'm with you on all other points except for that one.

Devin Gilpin certainly isn't a rich guy. He won the UMP Modified National Championship with only one car and one spare motor.

I'm not saying he is a low budget racer, but he certainly is far from many of the top tier guys.

better stand up and tell ump to stick it up Sam Diggers azz fellas...ump has become the laughing stock of racing cause they got their balls clipped years back!!! should be the most fair sanction around but they wont stand up for their own rule and its made things get way out of hand imo

but on a good note anybody racing with kiefer should feel safer now knowing you got ins case he kills ya!!!!

When I raced at a NASCAR sanctioned track the cost of membership was less for the support (lower pay-out) classes. Sounds again like the SS, Sportsman, Pro-four and some cases the mods are subsidizing the LM's.

what does ump do for the racers? just trying to figure out what there purpose is. I mean seriously what do they do?they dont guarantee good racing surfaces they have no safety tech or tech at all they dont pay any extra. they need to require the tracks to do something besides open the gates. I wish they would require mandatory transponders at all tracks if they cant afford it no ump sanctioning. its like obama care. you have to pay whether you want to or not.

UMP is a joke. The only benefit seems like the healthcare option.

If you're a weekly racer, you don't stand a chance at the championship in the late models. Not to mention, you don't get the same "good ol' boy treatment" as racers such as Shirley, Feger, and Unzicker.

I'd like to see a statement breaking down what the extra revenue will be used for.

Memberships are less for Sportsman, SS, Pro 4, etc... Late Model, Modifieds and Pro Lates are the same.

Are you sure about injuries???

Look at it this way you recieve an extra $50,000 in insurance for your self in case you get injured. That is cheap coverage. If you get point money either state region or national its just a bonus.
They should just say your are required to buy this insurance policy for your own good and you get a membership and point fund qualification to boot!

Donnie .. are you sure this covers injuries ... has this changed? It has always been a death benefit only. I know when Bob got hurt, UMP did not cover any of it. Just wondering ...

So here we go, the racer that wants to race part time and enjoy different tracks and is not running for points will have to pay. What UMP will be doing is getting rid of the little people that can not afford the extra $125.00 and run just for the sport - fun and fans. I think they and the tracks will find even a lower car count, especially from people that have more then one car. We were going to bring two cars out at times and both race but now it will cost us an extra $250.00 because we will have to belong to UMP. I guess will be doing more camping and boating instead of racing along with some other drivers.

Thanks Jimmy for the heads up on the membership cost.

For all you wanking about being forced to have insurance you don't want... think about it. Do accidents ALWAYS happen to the other guy? Do you think it will never happen to you? In fact 50 grand won't go that far, with the cost of health care today. Tracks have insurance as well, what you'll need to know is the UMP insurance on top of the track insurance?

You're saying, "I have health insurance from where I work..." Don't count on it... check with you employer. I did years ago, and guess what, they had a clause that stated: No coverage for dangerous sports, such as, sky diving, mountain climbing, auto racing, etc. Luckily my employer was able to work with the insurer and I was covered for my racing "hobby".

For all you health care reform haters out there... just think, if we had national health care (I won't call it socialized, because I don't want anyone to have a heart attack.) No more insurance costs to race tracks!! I have raced in England, and rallied in Europe, if you are injured at a track, go to hospital, your taken care of, period. Plus, because everyone has health care, people are not so sue them crazy. When I comes to auto racing they have a lot more freedom than we do.

I will get of my soap box now, heading out for Tulsa.

It is an additional $50,000 in Participant Accident Benefits on top of the tracks Participant Accident policy.

I can tell you when there is an accident ... your personal policy pays FIRST ... the track insurance only kicks in when there are costs not covered by personal insurance (the track insurance is a secondary insurance) ... I assume the UMP will only kick in when your personal & track is exhausted (ie is the 3rd one to pay)??? For $80 - $125 per driver ... when will their insurance ever kick in?

Crate drivers have just been told they have to pay $325 to get their motor sealed NOW every crate driver has to pay an additional $125 for a crate membership ....

Another question ... do crate drivers, have to buy a 2nd license (Cost of LM license $125) when they run with supers as they do at Belleville and Highland?

Plus when you want to run for track points ... that is ANOTHER cost ... when will it ever end???

We have always bought the track and UMP membership (so far Bob has always gotten enough point money to offset the membership--it has NOT been for the insurance - as stated UMP paid NOTHING toward the cost of Bob's accident ... our PERSONAL insurance paid over 90%), but I can see for casual (one night per week or less) racers this is becoming extremely costly and they will get NOTHING for it.

DON'T TRY TO SELL THIS AS AN INSURANCE ... BECAUSE IT WON'T FLY.

Lastly ... Who is going to police this? UMP will be happy if 50% of drivers (it was stated only 12% have them now) buy a license because it is mandated. But you will still have 50% of drivers going to tracks WITHOUT buying one ... who will stop them from racing? The promoter WILL NOT turn a driver away at the gate if they don't have a license ... they are already hurting for drivers as it stands now. This mandated license WILL NOT increase the number of drivers ... it can only HURT racing.

UMP=Unlimited Money Pit
if they're making it mandatory then they need to do as USRA does and mandate that they have an official tech person at each track every week! And also kick back for the points fund! You've got modified points champs at some tracks winning $250 for the points championship. Ump needs to step up and give a little back to the weekly racers.

You don't need multiple memberships to run multiple divisions. Pro, Modified and Super are the same price for memberships so those are fine. But you can't by a 4 cylinder membership and run modifieds, pro or super with it.
