An observation of the Tri-City race last night

Overall it was a very good night of racing. I had never been to the re-configured 3/8 mile track before I moved to Louisiana about 6 years ago. The track was blazing fast all night long, having up to 3 grooves. The new concession stands and bathrooms were great...prices was very reasonable!! But I feel though there were two downfalls....1. The price of admission was absolutely a JOKE!! $25 dollars was waaaaay too high. I was expecting maybe 20 to get in but cmon....the way the ecomomy is people just cant afford that. Its not like it was the World of Outlaws or anything. Just a decent sized payout late model race that had a handful of good, nationally traveling drivers. There is no doubt that a track like Pevely wouldve only charged $20....if last night was $25 I hate to see what Lucas Oil Late Model race in July will be...$40?? Absolutely ridiculous!! 2. They have to fix the parking area somehow. Too many cars for not near enough space to park...there were cars parked 3 and 4 deep and nobody could get in or out.

Im not raining on the racing though...best racing Ive seen in awhile. The modified program was a little long but the late model feature sure made up for it.

This was the same payout as a Lucas race, the $25 admission is the same at I-55, Highland or any other area track that has a Summernationals race, this was the same admission as the last couple of years as well. As far as parking, with all the rain we had this week we lost alot of our parking do to extremely wet ground.

Thanks, Kevin

parking is usually good but with all the rain, it had a lot of it messed up. 25 bucks is the going rate for any 10000 and some 5000 to win races. to make the payout they almost got to do that. all in all....id bet they, as in tri city, dont make a ton of money at all on these shows. and id bet the july lucas race will be 20 to get in thursday and 25 for friday.....all big shows are usually that or dang close.

The one problem I have with this track is the wall that cuts off the high side of turn 4. We saw 5 or so cars hit that thing hard last night. I really believe that wall is a safety hazzard. It has caused some of the most horrific wrecks that the new track has seen. The Brian Birkhofer wreck in the heat is a perfect example. Some may argue that "They all should know that it's there". My response to that is that it shouldn't be there to begin with.

I understand that making a change to the wall in turn four would be an off season project. I hope that this issue is resolved in the next off season. I fear that if it's not removed, eventually somebody is going to be seriously hurt or killed because of it. I know it has already cost some racers a lot of money.

In the words on Ronald Reagan, "Mr. Gundaker, tear down this wall!"

jmcgrew and cratefan you are right on both.the wall is bad deal there and the guy beside me cussed all night about the 25 to get in,but set there and spent 100 on beer. if some one cant afford 25 to get in there racing aint for them anyway.jmo

I can't believe I'm agreeing with you! :). The crowd suc'd at I-55 and that is gonna be sad, when they start closing early or something???It's gotta be more than the new BEER???? I just wish they had Miller Lite or the "BEAST". I chose "Keith Stone" when I was there the last time.:cool:

The 25 was not an issue the place was packed!I just wish the grandstand would have been moved to the backstretch the dust ****ed but a great field of cars in all classes.

Where do u people come from, 25 bux is the norm for races like this been that way for years, the amount of cars that showed up, all the racing u got for 25 bux was well worth it, look godfrey gone, gateway closed, mt vernon closed or next to it,,lake hill gone,,st charls gone,, need i say more, yes times are hard for most of us but what about the racers, track owners,,if 20 lt models 15 mods,, 12 crates would of showed up i would be mad, seen it before poor car count sux,, the amount of cars that showed the improvements to the track come on 25 bux was worth it,, by the way if it would of been a woo show for sprint cars u would not have the car count they had sun,,,about 28 to 35 is the norn for here,, seen it too many times and i am a sprint car fan,,, 25 bux for a low car count wizzez me hoff,, jmo

I personally thought $25 was high as well after paying $25 for a $30k to win at Wheatland the night before. Parking was my main complaint. I never saw anyone out there directing people as to where to park...although I heard there were two parking attendants out there. My biggest complaint was how qualifying was handled. If someone got loose in a turn causing you to check up, your lap was hosed as well.

That's why they give you 5 laps...If you can't get one good one out of 5, then it is your own fault. If we have to sit through qualifying, that is the way to do it!!! That is how it is done during Speedweeks at Volusia as well. Except Volusia puts about 10 cars out there at a time.

racingfan03.....how much did they charge to get in on friday night???? they get money for 2 nights of racing to pay there purse.... right?

I personally LIKED how qualifying was handled. I hope they handle it like that for all shows that require qualifying.

I think they should have put more water on the track. Come on guys you could have done better than that.i dont mind paying $25 to get in but didnt like paying $20 for a bucket of beer.it seams to me we try to get alittle too greedy when the big boys are in town.keep in mind the workin man

the only problem i and with the track was getting PELTED with large balls of dirt and even rocks... and yes they were rocks because they landed under my seat and i examined them before i left. One hit my nose and it drew a bloody nose. Granted the winds were fairly strong but it was like i was sitting in a sand blaster by the flag pole.

my only complaint was i got there at 11:00 am so i could get a good seet.
there were blankets in the stands alredy.

That was brought up by someone i was talking to at the track Sun and they said it was put there for some of the sponsors. So take it for what it is just a story a heard.
