Brownstown thoughts!

What happened with the hornets? Why was the winner docked and the win given to shaw? Or were the results just wrong last night?

There were all sorts of bad calls on Saturday and the track was crap. I don't understand why they didn't try to fix it at intermission. All they did was add water. Do you really think that's gonna help an already black slick track???

once (any)the track blackens up, watering aint gonna help. the rubber imbedded into the dirt acts as somewhat of a water proofer, and repels water. you have to chop up the surface of the track to get the water to be absorbed.

And you wonder why this track sat closed for how many years?????? Come on people be thankful you eve have a track to go to instead of gettin gon here *****ing about things that really don't matter. Would you rather have sat there until 2am so they could tear up the track and prep it so that every race could have a perfect track?? I was at the drivers meeting and the promoter even said "this is going to be a dry slick track and we will do what we can when we can to keep the dust down" or something to that nature. Again Thanks for taking the chance to open the track back up and give people a place to race at.

blah, blah, blah, who cares the track crew is the worse ive ever seen..they are slow running a show and never can tell if they are going to pay you what they say.How the h$ll you going to pay people on car count. This place will be the next GODFREY AND ST CHARLES!!!!

Any other track that we have been to for a two day show, immediately after the first night is over, starts digging up the track and preps it for the next day. Its just common courtsey to drivers to give them a dirt track. That is what they came up there to race on. I understand that at the end of the evening the track is most likely going to be a dry slick track, but when you pull in for the second day of racing and the track is completly black and has had no work done to it, thats just pure laziness on the track owners part. If you are going to own a track you need to take the time to take care of it and make it a place where people want to race.

I could also not believe how the officals are at this track. You cant find one when you need one and when you do find one to ask the rules they say "I dont know". And then the rules they do make, get changed half way through the night. Just a poorly run track in my opinion and we won't be back. I am sure they don't care since they cater to "their" drivers but I am free to my opinion and I think they should know how badly their track is run.

Fan view

Looked forward to one more race to watch this season. Drove a long way, but that is my problem. When we paid both Saturday and Sunday, they gave us a very small portion of the ticket stub. As soon as I reached a trash can, I threw those stubs in it. Nothing was said about keeping the stubs. Most tracks have some kind of a ticket drawing so you keep your entire ticket. Not here. Then, they made an announcement in the stands that because people had been sneaking in, if you didn't have your ticket stub or the remaninder of it, you would be escorted out of the track. What a deal. I walked all the way back to the ticket booth and after a considerable discussion, was able to convince them I had paid and they did give me two more ticket stubs. Came back to the stands and saw them harassing a couple who had apparently not paid. Harassing isn't the right word as the track officials are entitled to being paid and if they didn't have tickets they should be thrown out. However, the track people should have used better judgement when we paid. Tell us we need to keep the tiny stub and we will. Don't come in after the fact when you make a mistake and let people in without paying. Now, regarding the track. Been to many tracks across the Midwest. Never have I seen a track in the condition this track was in. Interesting how Shaw, who won the Hornet class under questionable circumstances, claims the track was perfect. I would too, I had won in that fashion. Don't know if I would claim the track was perfect but would call the officiating perfect if I were him. There was so much dust we couldn't even see the cars. Very lucky someone wasn't hurt in that cluster****.

no, but i remember many times during the 70s at shaheens little springfield, joe himself would get on one of these almost immediately after the checkered fell. it was wayyy older than this, didnt have the enclosed cab, and , since he was so short, he had to stand up on it to drive it. now there was a guy who did it right!

Gees dirtboy, if all the fans had your attitude then all the tracks would close and promoters run for cover.

well on there best night they never held a candle to the old godfrey speedway and the charlie bowl!!!!

A few years back when Ken Lomax run the track at Mt. Vernon it was one of the best tracks in the area.
That man knowed how to work a track. He worked everything reverse of the waythe cars run and it made for a good track.

Thank you everyone for the great publicity!

I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I have one, possibly two cars for sale. As always, I will work one on one with anyone who buys a car and save the new owner all the guess work. Anyone serious about a winning car can call me anytime on my cell phone @ (618)781-0302 Rob Shaw

Joe did know what he was doing back then. I remember my dad racing Late Model's up there and watching Swede flag now let some of these drivers try and pull stuff over on that man.
