Bedrock rules meeting....7 Feb 2010

Why not just change the rules for the ohv guys so they can run, say ohv 400cc & over must wiegt 415 or 420 lbs, & I say give the guy with the small cc engies a break & make them wieght 360 say anything with a stock 5 hp block or 115 cc or smaller. I dont like the idea of running against engines of of atv & bike either that a whole other class to me. I say stay with industrial based engines & engines designed for karts. but that just my opinion. I say openthe class some more but not to anything some of us have invested alot of $$$ to run the rules we had in the past & it makes no sense to throw that aside for a few that want to run build something all new to have a huge advanage over everone else. I have no proplems running aganst ohv engine, 2 strokes designed for karts, old flatheads, but to take a engine off of a atv or bike a run aginst the what we all have ??????????? WTF

rules

who's complaining about the rules we have in place? guys that ran 2 years ago with the rules we have now, and decided they want to make changes to the rules to justify the elegal stuff they built. just tell those 2 guys to come back with there legal stuff they had 2 years ago or find a track that runs rwyb rules.my vote is for uas rules,i will be able to take 76lbs of lead off of kurts kart. that sounds fair to me.

Thank you Scott. I appericate the reply and agree completely. The rules need to be modified to allow more engine combos.

How do we do that...that's the question.

I suggest 360 for all legal under 2009 rules (15 pound break). Any motor over that 400 pounds (25 pound increase). That's a 40 pound spread from last year.

Larry are you serious about the UAS rules? If so I'll add them to the list of options.

Tom....no one has a vote in this matter. You have a voice and your opinion will be presented on Sunday. BUT I SAY AGAIN....there is no VOTE. Frank will make the call as track owner and promotor.

We have time

We don't have to rush this issue.Let's listen to everybodys suggestions, and have meeting of those involved with this class later.Hammer out the rules then.
I agree with Scott about the majority of us having $$$ spent on what we believed to be the rules to be enforced. And bringing motorcycle and snowmobile engine into this class is just crazy
This arguement is like a bad tooth, aint gonna get better till it's fixxed right.JMO
I think splitting to 2 classes is the simplest fix.Let the RWB people race each other and build up their class like we did years ago.The Outlaw class,by the rules in place represent the majority of us until we're forced to buy bigger engines to compete with afew.JMO

I'm legal either way and don't want to race a snowmobile engine either....been there seen that, not pretty.

The discussion can be delayed until the majority can meet.

Question?

Who in this list of racers runs a motor at Bedrock that is illegal under the current Bedrock rules?

Thanks Tobi.

So basically, our regular racers (lets say those who showed up more than 8 times last year) are:

Doug Goalby
Jeff Mackay
Joe Wolters
Ken Ganahl
Kevin Adney
Kurt Westerfield
Shane Summers
Tobias Midkiff

Bedrock would lose 2 regular racers (3 if you count John Gunter who showed up at least 6 times), and a possible 8 total throughout the year. This seems like a reason to modify the rules in some way.

Im just looking this from the outside in but it seems that the uas rules would benefit everyone and make the kart count bigger which would mean more money for the winner. Frank in the past has paid $100 to the winner if they had a full field of karts. Like i said not taking sides but we did have a friend at the last money race at bedrock in october that had a stock 100 yamaha and was running 3rd when the jack shaft broke so seems that their rules are pretty fair and even. Im just wanting to build kart racing back up in the area. Compared to everywhere else in the midwest St louis is dead for karters. I hope you guys iron things out this weekend. I am planning on running some outlaw races have my kart done and the wedge body sitting there just waiting to figure out a motor.

Agreed on the kart counts John. We need to do whatever it takes to get karts to the track. They have had this engine/weight debate for a few years now. With more karters, who have engines outside the current rules package, something needs to be modified with the current rules.

I'm with Scott Baur on this. The current class needs to be opened up some, and the rest of the bigger engines need another class. There are a number of tracks around the midwest who run a RWYB class. Bedrock just might need one.

If I read through the results on the Bedrock website correctly, it looks like 3 or 4 different types/sizes of engines won a number of races at Bedrock last year. There must be some room to open the current class up...

I agree with John also....as I stated UAS would be a good choice in my opinion WITH THE EXCEPTION of banning any Wankel rotary type engines, anything over lets say 390cc....basically get rid of the bike engines that we are seeing at Du Quoin....must be air cooled type of thing...maybe that would make things fair. Then if enough show up that want to run a true RWYB class with no weight or engine rule...let them.

UAS rules **** they are always argueing about the weight to engines size & the atv engines are alowed uas is not the answer! if you read some of there post the organization in not happy with the current rules they have opened up to much & allowed people to have a unfair advantage & they are suffering for it from what I have read. I would be against the uas rules for sure. the 400 lbs is not enough in muy opinion most of the stars out there ars over 400 cc now the ohv engins hav an adantage I would have any thing over 400 cc ohv wieght 415 to 420 to even thing up some what.

here's my vote

360 lbs for karts under the 2009 rules
ohv engines 420 lbs
rotarys ? lbs
no atv or bike engines
if this works and some one starts running away from the rest of the field on a weekly basis, it would be a lot cheaper to add more weight to one of the above, or take some away till we get the balance right . hell nascar made rule changes in the middle of the year for several years. our changes would be at the cost of a 5lb or 10 lb piece of led.

As i said im not up on all the rules, just giving an outsiders opinion. The big thing is everyone needs to keep cool heads and work this out without a shouting match. Heck im getting all kinds of crap on the clone deal already to the point where im thinking is it even worth the headache to put this on. Just work together to figure it out so you dont end up with not a class at all. It boils down to one thing we all have in common we all want to race.
