Boycott Silver Dollar City

I agree with Doug..Alton made a big deal about the Belle..said it would help school, road, police, ect. But look now..schools are going downhill..and fast. Worst pay scale for teachers. Crime rate is the highest in 12 yrs. Fire Department is in turmoil. Roads are sad..to say the least. Not knocking Alton..but..just dont see how the Belle has helped the community..period.

For once I agree with Doug. According to an article the Post-Dispatch wrote a few years ago on illiteracy, something like 23% of the adults in Alton are functionally illiterate. But remember folks, gambling helps education.

The problem with the amendment was it was going to allow gambling on ANY water based casino. Which could have ment the Lake of Ozarks change from a family oriented spot to a HillBilly of Vegas spot.

Pitdrifter,
I prefer CHEWIN_VARHA! I have been perfecting my Hold 'Em skills...bout ready to tryout the new "poker" room over at Ameristar.

CQCQ....I tell ya what, if we could get 10 people (or more if possible), I say we hold a tournament. I can get atleast 5 (the usual weeknight gang).

EXAMPLE:
10 people....25 bucks in.
250 pot...winner takes 175, second gets 50, third gets their 25 bucks back.

Who is STLRACING.COM's Texas Hold 'Em Poker Champion??!?

Well you must remember that the money taken out of the economy to fund gambling has to come from somewhere. That means less people will have their homes bricked, they will drive an older car, they will drink less milk, they will donate to thier church less, they will attend their local bar less, they will attend their local racetrack less. I can go on for ever in the ways people will cut their positive to the economy spending to give thier hard earned money to casinos, but the point is, casinos hurt the economy. Besides that think about what casino gambling does to nearby Shrine clubs, AMVETs, VFWs, catholic churches, and other charitible bingo halls. It takes their once a week customer away and turns them into a gambling addict that looses thier family and life. God bless America, God bless Missouri, and God bless our gun toting non gay marrige alowing red neck asses.

Where is my money

They promised me i would get rich if the boat was built

This is how we at Rockawaybeach give the bird to the rest of Missouri

They can't be too bad off down there if they can afford 11.7 million for ads.
Also, for every $1,000 the State of Mo. gets from the lottery and casinos, the Federal gov't takes that much away from the state when it's funding time.

It's a lose, lose situation. :(
The $11.7 million was money pumped in by out of state Gambling organizations, trying to get the thing passed here. I think the only people who think gambling operations are wonderful are the people who own them. I have friends who work at the Queen, and they are not wonderfully happy people at work. Most are looking for a job, and they tell me the turnover is incredible, mostly from theft or poor attendance. Sounds like Mo did the absolute right thing and said no.
