Can I run mercruiser engine

You can't go sticking a 2.5 ford crank in a 2.3. Our rules say No Strocker Motors.

O.K. PEOPLE, LETS FOCUS

The real question is not the Mercrusier....It is the Wolf, will he come to the camp out in drag....Will he dance around the camp fire toppless...A more important question, will Little 302 wear his
coconuts & grass skirt...will him & Wolf slow dance to an Elton John song:confused:

I can't believe the way you people ignore these important issues
and continue to worry about a boat motor:rolleyes:

The best way to handle this situation is to clairify in the rules: NO BOAT MOTORS. No matter how much they look like or appear to be, NO BOAT MOTORS..

It's really not an issue. I don't think there's a chevy out there with a 3.0 in it...I could be wrong. I think it's just the ford guys looking for an excuse why a chevy won this week.:D :D :D

I was going to make no secrets about running a GM 3.0 Mercruiser block , along with a stock 2.5 Chevy head , Some have suggested that I grind the block numbers off , but I am not going to build something that is not accepted , I was just curious about the combination , I think I was reading between the motor rules for the Rams.

Thanks again for the information , I was told if I needed answers put it on here , they were right !

SMURFS THOUGHT"S LIKE IT MATTERS

some very good point have been made here Kenny you are so right about the s-10 and Pinto's have the motor swapped to the allowed motor's

yes it has been rumored that there is a "boat motor" ran last year ...... I have also been told there is a "ford" boat motor made
so here is the thing I guees the real question's is....

1) can it be set in the place of 2.5 without moving the firewall?
2) does the rule say no boat motors?(NO)
3) mmmm sound like a interesting topic for the 18th

from midet racer
these 3.0 liter engines are based on the 65-70 nova ,aka chevy II. they were 153 ci.in the nova's. they took the same block, made it 4 inch bore, but a 3.625 stroke crank in it,that took it to 181 cid. were they in a stock s-10? nope. never. the last production these basic engines in any car was 77-78 pontiac sunbird. they were still the 4 in. bore block, but were desroked,to 151 cid.. gm still produces the motors in mexico. they just call them mercruisers. they will bolt right in to where a 2.5 once was,but with the intake/exhaust now on the same side, gotta change the exhaust. i think you should allow them. they will kick a 2.3 ford's butt. i know this for a fact.
hey art I have a 72 Mercrusier is this the same motor your talking about (iron duke)??? aint these what you guy use in your midgets??? if so where do I find the casting numbers mine runs like a stipped @ss ape also I might be getting another one that the block froze and busted on what should I save off this motor rods crank head?????
:D :D

Bill leave my cheater flywheel out of this:D :D

PS what ever you do DON"T grind numbers off that will defenintly look like your trying to cheat:D :D :D

smurf still thinks this post smeells FISHYYYYYYYYY:D

Maybe this will help

Mercury MerCruiser engines and drives are produced in a 500,000-square-foot facility in Stillwater, Okla.

Not at the chevy engine building factory so they never went in a chevy unless someone else put them in. And mercury never put one in a car or truck.

GM 3.0

I don't have one but have known about them. At this point I don't really care about the subject too much, but Toluca Mexico
doesn't sound too much like a Mercury warehouse in OK. I'm a pain in the booty huh. hehe

Why all you fords so touchy about this. I thought if you wanted to race a 4 cyl ministock a 2.3 was the cream of the crop. Now everyone acting all scared and stuff. Us 2.5 guys don't wine about the "SUPERIOR" 2.3.

EASE UP I'M JUST HAVING FUN HERE.

lmao

The mercruiser and the gm marine engine is not the same...Merc makes one and Gm makes one...

And I am not worried ..I have what I want in my car a 2.3 and thats what I will be keeping ..I dont need some over rated piece of crap in my car..

The 4 cylinder marine engines are meant for boats not cars ..
And Bill YOU CAN KISS MY AZZ
and yes you are a pain in alot of butts and you whine way to much about everything ...so shut up and just worry about the chevy you have okay

Did I say that lmao..

I'm with you Smurf. I think someone is stirring the pot also.

I just can't help myself cause of some of the excuses these ford guys try to use. hehe

Kenny already said it would be difficult to run one good enough to last and stay legal. So why is everyone worried. Nothing in the rules that doesn't say we can't. It's a GM Motor and a 4 cyl. I don't see the issue here as you had posted before. Rules don't say s-10 to s-10, sunbird to sunbird, pinto to pinto. It says ford to ford, chevy to chevy, nisan to nisan.. there you go Bob. Didn't want to leave you out.

And this is just a rules discussion and not another negative day of the Wheelman...

Kiss what?........ That's a scary thought...Too bad you had to go there. I don't whine about anything. Discussing rules is not whining. Funny thing is I'm not usually trying to stretch the rules. I'm usually supporting the rules we have. The RAMS say we don't want to let our rules get out of hand, so I'm just
"getting involved" and doing my part as I've been told I need to do more of.

But if we want to keep stretching the rules then that's fine too. Just let me know and we'll go from there.

This forum as went to the crapper since your arrival anyways. I'm about done with it all together.

NOW BILL who will I have my inteluctiall FORD vrs CHEVY discussion with???? if left the forum???? oh BILL STAY STAY STAY:D :D I'll be forced to argue with myself:D :p :D

Wheel21

Yes this thread was just to stir the pot, but in closing was it normal practice for GM to install Buick v-6 valves in the S-10 2.5 head? ;)

I will leave the motor stock just the way it was built by GM ,and just use a 2.5 Chevy truck head , I was told that the crankshaft from the 3.0 will drop right in a early 2.5 Chevy motor making it a 3.0 but then that would be increasing the stroke , and then making it a no no for a 2.5 block , The 4 motors here say GM MERCRUISER 3.0 140hp and I believe they will bolt right in same spot and all.

They all run fine they were removed from old government boats for conversion to 6 cylinder
