Cash For Clunkers... Sad

Corolla huh,that's a bummer, I don't own that manufacturer. At least St. Barack and the Cronies (rep. and dems) opened up the magic checkbook again to approve more funding. I feel for my kids....

Actually I challange anyone to point out one good thing the republicians have done in the past 25 years. On second thought maybe even since the Civil War.

Secondly, the goverment did not buy any car company, we are investers in two auto company's and we stand to make a nice profit from that investment, much as we are likely to may make as much as 20 billion dollars profit in the next few months from the Citicorp investment.

As much as republicans continue to deny it the facts are that it was the policies and incompentence of the past republician adminstration that has caused these current measures to have to be implemented.

And you Democrats refuse to admit that you had control of the house and senate since 06 and are just as much to blame for the economic collapse maybe even more so.

its a false economic boost........you can't throw phony money after bad and think its gonna be anything good......whose money is this ?...it isn't ours, we don't have any........you know times are tough and just like in our personal life, sometimes we're gonna have bad times...THAT"S LIFE !........accept it and lets all work our way thru it .....AND yes sometimes the best thing to do is NOTHING...it'll work itself out.........the markets are gonna do what they do best.........and thats keep us guessing.?...........if anyone thinks that trying to outsmart the economic markets by" pouring money in it that doesn't exist"...you're wrong..........just settle down and quit worrying about it !..........doing something just because , isn't the answer............and yes, it has affected me too, and close friends of mine......i'm self-employed and things are a little lean right now, but i'm not worried the sky is falling.......it just is what it is........just means i can't afford dessert for awhile.........thats a blessing in disguise..........LET"S GO RACING !

I wonder how many of the people that took part in the cash for clunkers will have the money for the payments now that they have a new car?

Tomcat,

Your comment sounds as though the people getting new cars under this program are sub prime borrowers, do to the fact that the most traded in clunker has been the Ford Explorer, do you know many sub prime borrowers that drive that kind of vehicle.

Also let me get this good things list started.

Richard Nixon (R) created and lead congress in passing the E.P.A.

I can find nothing bad with the contract with america that came in 1994 after 40 years of dem power taking this country toward socialism. The problems we face today are directly linked to Clinton repealing banking laws. Also all the good that did get passed out of the contract with america was overrides of Clinton vetoes.
REPUBLICAN CONTRACT WITH AMERICA
As Republican Members of the House of Representatives and as citizens seeking to join that body we propose not just to change its policies, but even more important, to restore the bonds of trust between the people and their elected representatives.
That is why, in this era of official evasion and posturing, we offer instead a detailed agenda for national renewal, a written commitment with no fine print.

This year's election offers the chance, after four decades of one-party control, to bring to the House a new majority that will transform the way Congress works. That historic change would be the end of government that is too big, too intrusive, and too easy with the public's money. It can be the beginning of a Congress that respects the values and shares the faith of the American family.

Like Lincoln, our first Republican president, we intend to act "with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right." To restore accountability to Congress. To end its cycle of scandal and disgrace. To make us all proud again of the way free people govern themselves.

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:

FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting................................There is much more to this great document which everyone should google and learn from.

The cash for clunkers is another car maker bailout, although at least it is open to all manufacturers not just government owned. With that being said I doubt it would have happened if the govt did not control gm and chrysler. I would venture to say that the same money given to more efficient air conditioners would conserve more energy. I diagree with the govt trying to make winners out of losers in any form although at least it is going to people who can afford a new car and not the people "riding in the wagon" I highly doubt that this program is good for the country as a whole which should be the most important part of any law just by the fact that our kids and grandkids are going to have to pay for it.

Bopper:

First of all that banking law you mentioned was killed not by Clinton, but by an amendment sponsored by Phil Graham (R)Tex. and passed with a veto proof republican majority by that 104th republican congress that you speak so highly of.

Second, the contract with America was not an act, but an ideal, and more important did they after acquiring control of congress actually follow any of those high ideals.

You get no points for reciting republican propaganda only actions count

Click the link and read your last post.

Ok???

So my last post on that thread states that I am not a proponent of HR676 which is a nationalized healthcare bill. Has nothing to do with the Cash for Clunkers program.

How is that talking out of both sides of my mouth?:confused:

If you had done a little research before your mouth runneth over you would have found this interesting tidbit of information regard the car company you own.

In the program so far, GM's share of cars sold is largest, accounting for 18.7 percent of new sales. Toyota Motor Corp. followed with 17.9 percent, while Ford had 16 percent. Detroit automakers represented 45.3 percent of the total sales while Toyota, Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co., all Japanese firms, totaled 36.5 percent.

back 2 cash for clunkers,
I hear that those who took advantage of the program will get another little surprise.
They will have to claim the rebate as income on their taxes at the end of the year.
So, if your car was really worth $4500 then you get taxed on that $4500, seems to me your in the hole in the end. Hmmmmmmmm

ABSOLUTLEY NOT TRUE!

From the CARS.GOV website
Taxes

Q: Is the credit subject to being taxed as income to the consumers that participate in the program?

A: The CARS Act expressly provides that the credit is not income for the consumer.

This is exactly the type of BS I hate. People repeating something that they have heard (more than likely from an Obama or Democrat hater), and try to pass it off as being true without ever checking the facts. No wonder Bush so easily dupped all of you. It took me less time to find that answer than it took for you to type that post.

Thats interesting, maybe Obama as C.E.O. of America Inc. is a better businessman than we thought, not only did he devise a plan to sale more G.M.product and enhance our investment but he also added funds to the American treasury as well.
