Dale Jr. docked 25 points for profanity.

You think Busch is arrogant? That's how I feel about Harvick. He's a smart-***** punk in my opinion. I also just want to point out that Jeffy Poo is still not in the points lead after this. It is Kurt Busch. He COULD conceivably pull this off and walk away with the championship. IT COULD HAPPEN.

Why does NASCAR care what the drivers say? It is the networks that air the shows and the driver's sponsors that should police the situation. If a driver keeps usuing profanity during interviews, the network should simply not show them. If the sponsor does not like the language being associated with their name, hit the driver where it hurtsm the pocket book. I guarantee that every sponsor has a contract where the driver and team agree to act in a manner that will not harm the sponsor's image. I think my favorite quote, and I think JR said it, was anyone who was offended by that word would not be watching the race. I think it is just another example of NASCAR alienating its old die hard fans.

Remember what started NASCAR's rise to the top? The 1979 Daytona 500. Half the country was snowed in, and the whole country was tuned to CBS. The good-ole boys finished racin' and started fightin'. Yarborough vs. Bobby Allison in turn 3, with a little Donnie mixed in for good measure. Imagine if they started something like that these days.

This is all about money, I think. The broadcasters are on the hook for huge fines if they broadcast profanity, from anyone, not just NASCAR. NASCAR is very understanding of their situation, and wants to keep a good relationship with the network. In essence, they want to protect the financial situation of the network so the network will continue to want to broadcast NASCAR. Paying out fines when a driver cusses on TV to the FCC isnt making money for the network, it is creating a financial liability for the network, this puts NASCAR under pressure from the network to police the drivers language, since the network doesnt really have any authority over the drivers directly. Its not like the drivers work for the tv company, now is it?

Easy solution to the cussing problem? Fine the driver, penalize him the points. The money we know none of them care about, but losing points in the championship? That hurts, not only the driver, but also the team and the sponsors. What better way to make your driver clean up his act verbally than to get him in hot water with his team owner, crew, and sponsors.

That keeps the driver in check, NASCAR is seen to have taken action, and the network is happy too, because they can tell the FCC "hey, we are doing something to keep it under control." In turn, the FCC takes the view that no action is warranted unless it becomes a regular occurence, and the FCC can also look at it and say the same thing, "they're taking care of it themselves."

So, no fines have to be paid, and NASCAR and the networks live happily ever after. If your a NASCAR driver, you really just have to play the game. No driver is going to make or break NASCAR, but NASCAR can make or break any driver, so it is in your interest to keep the FCC and the broadcaster happy. Simple solution for the drivers is keep the language under control, its not that hard to do.

Look at it this way. On your wedding day, you may be very happy, or not, as the case may be, but will you be cussing in the church?

i see a way nascrap could have saved face and still pimp slapped jr...fine him,ok,,but due to the gravity of taking points away at this stage of the so-called chace they could have fined him the 25 pionts and suspended imposition providing there was no more potty mouth for the rest of the season,,they get their point across and dont tick of a bunch of fans,,,

i am not a fan of dale jr's but i will have to agree with everyone, i think the fine was enough, they didnt have to take his points....i think everyone that disagree's with this needs to email or send a letter to nascar.....

Yes at least NASCAR is consistent! CONSISTENTLY STUPID! They can't control driver's emotion and they should quit trying to do it. They are not parents, they are a big business making millions off of drivers like Dale Jr. Dale Jr. is their biggest money maker, especially since their #1 money maker (Dale #1) died! If nothing else they should be applauding Dale Jr. for being himself, whether they like it or not. If all drivers were like Jeff Gordon after a win I'd quit watching.

"My guys worked really hard all week and I'm so proud of the entire RICK HENDRICK, DUPONT, PEPSI, SEIMENS, AC DELCO, BURGER KING, TOYS R US, WAL MART, DOBBS TIRE AND AUTO TIRE CENTER, DELL COMPUTERS, STLRACING, BROOKEGORDON.COM, QUAKER STATE, CHECK INTO CASH, ST. LOUIS PAWN SHOP, MARTY'S, BUFFALO TOOLS, FRUIT OF THE LOOM, HISTORY CHANNEL, #24 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO!!!!"

Oh yeah and this car was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boring! Way to go Jr. If you can't beat em' beat em' by more than 25! What a crock of S_IT!

Thats the whole problem Doug..they viewed that from a camera...far away. No microphones..just video of the fight. Nowadays..all the press and camera people wanna do..is shove a microphone in someones face..right when the crap issa hitting the fan. that ****s..but Nascar was at least consistent. I guess..any cuss word is 25 points..25,000 dollars lost. Ask Johnny Sauter. Everyone can thank the crappy guy Micheal Powell(Colin Powell's kid) for this. He is head of the FCC..has no qualifications for that job other than his dad has major amounts of pull(Thanks Daddy!!) Its sad..if i were there..with my daughters..and someone said that..in the heat of the moment..or whatever..itd be ok with me..understandable. My family has been around racing enough to know...emotions blow over..every now and then. Howard Stern kicked the FCC in the cahoona's today..by going to Satellite Radio..not just as a shock jock(man..they really have bout used that word up)..but as a partial owner. Guess what happened today to Serious Satellites stocks? WENT UP 30 PERCENT!! Is this enough of a message..or what. America..has in general about had it with our ole goverment taxing us to death...telling us what we can..or..cant do..or..hear or see on tv..and they continue to draw unreasonable salaries..benefits out the yingyang..and commit crimes widespread..we just never hear of it(example..dig into the oil crisis and Bush crap..totally linked and he is making millions!!) And the Kennedy legacy is a joke. And dont get me on Cheney..please. he is the worst. He is drawing $180,000 dollars..from a corrupt company..drawing a salary as the big VP(tax payers paying for)..getting kickbacks like you would even beleive(some are so called marginal to being illegal) and he is smiling all the way to the bank.

The punishment does not meet the crime. Fine him but don't take his points.
It wasn't said in a fit of rage or that he trying to be cute. He slipped. Honest mistake.

RACIN90: You have enlightened us on the broader spectrum of what is really going on here. I hope to God every single person that uses this site is registered and intends to vote next month. It doesn't matter if you like H.Stern's program or not. He should be admired for being the first celebrity with clout to have a big enough satchel to take a stand against the powers that be. I hope Jr. and his team use this to fuel their fire and dish out one azz kickin after another from here out.

Interesting take on Stern's departure from the commercial airwaves. His deal with Sat radio was such that they didnt want to take the risk of paying him and getting no listeners, so they made him a partner in the deal. That way, if he fails, he also gets a share in the losses. If he succeeds and subscriptions go up, he gets a fat bonus.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Stern, really. Not a kick in the cahoonas to the FCC either, more like the FCC kicked Stern in the cahoonas and sent him on his way.

There you go again Todd, making perfect sense in an open-minded logical fashion. What is wrong with you? LOL! Are you going to I-55 Sat?

Catch 22

You know after reading some of these post I have to laugh and hang with me on this. My opinion and my opinion only I believe we should have some guidelines on things being done and said on T.V. , Radio and CD's and DVD's .. I am a mother of an 8 year old going on 20 and having to police the T.V. or policing a CD she bought at the store... I think there sould be parental warnings on CD'S and DVD'S and "Games of violence so gross I get sick seeing it" kids are numb to violence of this level. It's everyday to them and look what is happening to our socitey. Kids in 2nd grade can terminate people in 3 minutes flat and have no sence of reality. Goes to school and shoots or stabs a kid who pissed him off. What happened to a good ole roll in the ground *** kickin? These days are gone you make a child mad at school
and you can be killed by a gun or knife. I think this is due to the violence they deal with on a daily basis rather it's T.V. or video games. I as a parent have to opportunity and the responsibilty to patrol what she watches, plays and hears. AND I DO! It's scarry what is on and what we hear on T.V. from 7-10 at night. My daughter is very street smart. She is around adults all the time and it my job to teach her what is right and wrong to repeat. And it is also my job to clock her block if she says something wrong. MY JOB!! The word Dale Jr. ( her favorite driver ) chose to use and she was sitting there was not NEARLY as bad as we see on T.V. on a regular basis. A warning I think would have been appropriate and if they choose a fine then so be it with a warning of the 2nd time. Personally I would like to see the press stand about 50 yards away from these guys and let them have some fun on their own terms. Can't wait to hear him if he wins again. Well that was just the sweetest run I have ever ran. And this victory is just swell sweet as a Tulip in June . But then again he might get busted becasue swell rhymes with H e ll. Sensoring yes I believe in. But being realistic is another... And patroling for my 8 year old is MY JOB. But apples and oranges are not the same... Maybe one day the FCC will get the sensoring and fines correct. Where it really needs to be done.
Not bad for a post from me I only lost 3 positions in points due to language :D

Didn't JR get docked points when he admitted to causing a caution? He wasn't docked points until he admitted to it. Robby Gordon tells his pit crew he is going to hit Biffle and does, causing Stewart and Mayfield to lose a lot of points, and just gets a 2 lap penalty.

Todays NASCAR is a joke. Bring back the good old days of racing.
I agree! Having points taken away should only be for ON-TRACK incidents or ILLEGAL CARS! Robby Gordon IS an on-track incident! NASCAR needs to get it's priorities straight! How about, for starters, force the TV networks to use a 5 second delay like MNF?

For any one who doesn't know.....the e-mail address is fanfeedback@nascar.com I sent mine already.....solution to the whole problem would be to make the TV networks use the "5 second delay" so they can beep out the offending words, and no one gets in trouble. What do they expect when they shove a mic in a drivers face when the adrenaline is flowing after a crash or a win? This whole deal was a bunch of S___ and could have been prevented!

Hey Pitdrifter, then NASCAR would fine him for "Actions Detrimental to Stock Car Racing, too short of an interview"
