For those wanting more Tri-City info, here you go!

Too bad. Guess Friday nights next year will BORING. There will be NO need for us to come next year to watch. Planned on bringing ...TWO ...sportsmans next year since you were moving to Fridays since we lost Godfrey. And I know of others that were going to come that didn't race last year.... TOUGH call. BUT I think you will be surprised to see how many faces you will lose in the crowd that actually came to watch them. Yea, yea, I know there will be 2 for everyone you lose...LOL
After watching the crates at Greenville. DO they have a real following like the sportsmans...NO.... The likely class to drop would have been the HORNETS .. JMO. But they are a promoters dream...money comes in and NOT to much PAYOUT...
I would like to see a hand count of HOW many sportsman drivers will actually be switching to a crate. I can bet NOT many. Lets see ....
1. They will have to sell their car. (Not much market for them, NOW). have to raise capital and now find a used up late model thats not TOO wore out. If thats at all possible.
2. BUY new tires, cause the old ones won't do.
3. NOW the power plant..more $$$$$$. They don't have a FORD replacement. That leaves us out. ...
Nope I can't see many jumping up to the new wonder class.. But, do I see a few LATE MODEL drivers jumping down and do a little cherry picking.... YOU BET!!!

Oh well, TCS loss is Highlands gain...!!!!!
Well said. No market for sure especially now. I know of 10 cars that have been for sale for 6 months and still are sitting. Id sell mine but cant either. I can convert my stub car to a crate late but...after i have to set the cage back...redo the suspension..new driveshaft..motor mounts...accelerator rod..oh yes..radiator needs to come back..lol. Get my point..might as well build another car. Have to buy tires also(good point). Well..fishing is looking pretty good now next year..anyone else? Not knocking Kevin's deal. Im sure he will draw some good cars and have a great show.

on the bright side people will have plenty of time to go to the concessions when the crates are racing!!! good luck next year with all of the people you are losing over this!!! wish you all the best!! bring on highland

"And when your getting 7 crates a week don't ask us to come back and bail your a** out!!!!

I really don't think this will be even close to a issue. I have a pretty good idea if it would of said "7 crates a week don't make the feature through the consi" you would be more correct. But I will wait till the season starts to get on here and say I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

That is ok with getting rid of the sportsman. Wait till about 2 or 3 weeks of the season and Kevin will let us come back when they only have a few crate cars. Besides his car count will go down as the season goes on because the show never gets over at a descent time. There are still alot of people that have to work on Saturdays and won't want to stay out all night.

do the math

Kevin and Tammy Gundaker (G&G motorsports) has made the decision to cut the sportsman class. To bring in the up coming crate class. It's probably been a hard choice for them to make. I know my sportsman will be sitting in the garage. You cant sell it for much. (steel prices are up) Can't buy a crate car for a quarter of what i have in my car. Let me see if my math is right
rolling chassis $500.00
4 wheels $250.00
4 tires $400.00
motor $650.00
---------
$1800.00

Now tell me where i can get a crate car for $1800. There is no way you can say I have one... when i started race is was how fast do you want go that means $$$$$$$$ for the people that dont have alot to spend sportman was the the class.

Thank you,
Bryan Slover

Sportsman drivers call and talk to kevin.

The race season has not yet started and here we go. There is no way to tell if this was a good decision until the the end of the 2007 season. I happen to work on two sportsman cars, and heard quite a few drivers talking about switching to a crate or a modified for 2007. However, those were belleville guys saying this before they heard this news that Tri-City would drop the class. Now that belleville has no compettion for sportsman, some may now change their minds. Late models, different story. Like I said I am at belleville every friday and love the late models there. But, a new 3/8 mile track for them to run on might just be a better show. Not quite sure if points will be a issue or not. Remember that Paducah runs late models on friday as well. I will suerly go at least once to see the new track and racing program(not really I want to watch pro fours though). I will reframe fom comment until I see the racing on the new track. Thanks Kevin and Tammy for all your work.

???????

Just one quick question, is TCS gonna be UMP sactioned or not. This would be useful information to know?

sportsmans are being dropped because 80% of them are allied legal so this gives the chance to belleville for more cars for the sportman class and as for the rest of the 20% will either race highland or not race at all

i wouldn't say 80%, but most could be with little changes to their motors. I have read the book "THE TOYOTA WAY" and it has to do with manufacturing and industrial beliefs. they talk about how you have to make changes now thinking about the "BIG PICTURE" and you will lose now, but in the long run you will do much better. Also, many companies fail at the start of new business and if they survive the start-up, they have a better chance of success. I think if tcs has a good show and draws the crowds that will make them successful for a long time. Good luck to tri-city and good luck to the sportsman drivers who this will impact harder more than anyone. see you all at the banquet. brandon h.

Crash, and the rest of you non crate believers are refusing to see the logical picture! I will guarantee 3 things. Number 1 is that there will definately not be any fans lost, for every one fan sportsmen had, the crates will have 2. Number 2 is that I guarantee there will be a full field of crate cars everyweek! I'm not talking 16 ,stretch to fill. I'm talking 25 or more. And number 3 is Brian, you may have $1800 in your car but I guarantee most of the front runners other than you have more than we do in our crate. Crates are up and comming, sportsmen are a dying breed, no cheaper than modified because it is a modified only with fenders!

so when you wreck your crate...which people do...your telling me those parts are cheaper than sportsman parts? you buying your stuff at autozone or somethin..naw I dont think you are..pretty sure wreckin a crate costs the same as wreckin a super...yea I could build one thats fine, but i'd much rather wreck my sportsman over a late model!!

Brown Farm's Raceway

With Tri-City moving to Friday nights and with no UMP sanction either, this is perfect timing for Brown Farm's Raceway to run on Sunday nights! No competition & UMP sanctionimg both!! I don't think you could go wrong. I would move fast on this before someone else gets the idea about opening another Sunday night track!!

Dropping the Sportsmans is one of the dumbest things i can think of. Yeah it is ok that others feel differently but that is my opinion. I sold all my stuff so it isn't like this was affecting me for next year. I will be back in 08' though and Tri City was going to be my friday night track.

In regards to the above post by groove grabber. Why do you say that for every one fan a sportsman had, the crates will have two? What makes you think that? Just because you guys have a UMP late model chassis with a weak little motor that makes you guys that much better? I gaurentee to you that there were many, many sportsman drivers that drew in fans. And from what i hear the Crates don't put on that great of a show anyways. I never seen them run so i can't say the don't put on a good show but i have heard that from many of people. Next about the car count. If you bring in 25 cars a night then great. But not all of them make the show. Most people want to see a full field of cars for a feature event. Weather it is a full field of 18 sportsmans or 18 late models it doesn't matter. Then about the cost of a sportsman compared to the Crates. Yeah i had about $10,000.00 in my car when i built it from Scratch with all new parts. And that is also turnkey. Let me see you build a Crate car with all brand new stuff turnkey for that price. It won't happen!!!!! Just in your guys transmissions and stuff like that you have $1500 minimum if you are running a bert. Lets see we can get a 3 speed saginaw for our cars for $100.00. And there is still much much more in a crate car that differs in prices like that.

Also as Silky said i would much rather wipe out the right front of a sportsman car than i late model. It is probably a $800.00 difference in repair bills if you buy all new stuff. I know myself can't afford to spend $800 to put some suspension and tires and wheels back on the car in one week. Yeah i know you can buy used stuff but what if you are in a hurry and can't find used stuff? You then have to buy new if you want to run. Just because the crate motors cost what $4000.00? That doesn't make them cheap and more affordable than a sportsman car. Yeah if you got a great sponsor then obviously money isn't a issue and you don't have to worry about things i have mentioned. I don't have anything against the crates being that i have never watched them run. But i would much rather stick with my sportsman division. This is all my opinion. This was not ment to piss off anyone. Just simply stating my opinion on this subject. Good luck to all in 07'

Tom

Nicely put Tom..i wanted to say that, but that was a lot of typing...who knows this might be the beginning of somethin or we might have the same conversation about gettin rid of the crates and bringing back sportsman..no matter what happens I doubt I visit that place much this year!

Silky,
I will very much go up againest you on the cost of repair difference! See, you forget how many late models are around this part of the country and the thousands of used part that guys damn near give away! You would be very surprised!, and ask anyone on here that has lates or crates if you dont believe me.

Smaldirt, See I have already beat you on price, this same post about money invested is on here a few times in other posts from the past so it can be verified. We have a grand total of $7,600 dollars in our car. This is the car that Won Belleville Fastrak race, Won Owensboro $1,000 to win, won Mt. Vernon $1,000 to win, and other weekly shows this year. If everyone would really like to know, here is what it is 1995 Rayburn (yes, I repeat 1995, ask Rodney Melvin, he bought it new) Price $3,000 roller. Motor is a GM 602, Weir Chevy $2,900. Transmisson, used Bert $700, 4 new Hoosier WRS tires $440. Holley HP 650 carb $600. That is it period, If I had the budget spent on your sportsman, I'd be s h i t t i n in high cotton. I'm not tryin to start something either but fact of the matter is that your statement is not completely true.

Shane Cockrum

um I'll go next door to the guy that has a late model and I know how much they have in parts....honestly it depends on the operation your trying to run...I think its apples and oranges man...plus Im bitter so your not gonna sway me..haha

let's see e tracks running crates on Friday make that if you consider malden all on Friday nights with 40 plus cars and out those there is at least 5or 6 that willlbe running supers on regular basis do the math, hey groove grabber Tommy said all new stuff not antique tell us all how much it cost for a new front end or a rack when the time comes

I heard Jamie Zidar, Stevie Sheppard and Brian Dively are headed to Jacksonville Raceway since they added UMP late models.

You are absolutly right. They said that if Tri-City was not UMP,they would not run there! And with no UMP sanction, how many late model drivers will be coming to Tri-City?
You know Korte,Dixon,Melvin,Zobrist,Collins,Faust,Taylor,Voight, etc.(way to many to mention)aren't going to be there.Where are you going to go to watch all the hot Late Model drivers?
