Gas prices are going to be the death of racing

Wal-Mart Hmmmm.Must not ever read the Labor Tribune?

T.nie I have one of those f-150's you singled out trust me I know how much gas she uses. BUT I am doing everything possilbe to conserve gas. When I go out I plan my trip to include everywhere I need to go, store, doctor. parts house :D and then I don't go out of my way and make unassasary trips. If I forget something I don't run back into town, It will just have to wait. People are going to have to start planning ahead. Do I think it is fair, NO, but listening to my parents and learning about the sacrifices they had to make during the depression and WW2, this going to be OUR sacrifice. Learn to conserve just like me :). One more thing my truck is paid for so why would I want to go and put myself further in debt?

Tapping the strategic reserve would only be a temporary fix.

So, you guys honestly believe that W is making money off of higher oil prices. That's freaking unbelievable. You guys need to get a clue!

I guess you guys forgot that he's lowered your taxes! No one ever mentions that topic on this board.

Mike is right in saying that drilling in Alaska would help. All the liberals that you guys voted in are against that though. So, take a clue from Momma Drew and talk to your Senator and Congressman about drilling in Alaska.

And of course I voted for W. :D

We need to get a clue???? I think you have that wrong? How is a man that has very close ties with the oil industry not making money off of this? How have gas prices more than doubled since he's been in office? Don't tell me he's not making money off this!

Drilling in Alaska is a TERRIBLE idea! You want to tear up a NATIONAL PARK and run thousands of miles of pipeline just so somebody else can get rich?

I dont' care that he lowered my taxes. if this is what I have to go through because of lower taxes, bring back higher taxes and lower gas prices. That is easily a "feel good" story before he unleashes the real terror.

No, he reads T.nie's Fairy Tales!

Fairy tale, Jeff? Gee, I remember the oil embargo back in the early 70's, people running around screaming how the entire country was going to grind to a halt, people would not be able to go to work, why, "The SKY WAS FALLING!!!!"

I remember when it was "Gas prices hit record highs! $1 a gallon or more by the end of the year!!!"

Now, roll forward thirty years, and here we have the same thing all over again.

Let's see Jeff. Maybe we can sit down a year from now and talk this over again. We'll see how many tracks have shut, how many racers have quit, we will assess the "damage" of gas prices on racing. Your prediction? "Racing will be over and done with, gas prices killed it." My prediction? "Gas prices won't affect anything, people will complain, racers will gripe, but the majority will still be at the track on the weekends, doing what they always have done."

Now, which sounds like a fairy tale to you?

HMRT. Well thats when we as voters should make or break them . If they can't get the job done and we start voting them out of office the hotshots in Washington will get the message. :D and start paying attention to the needs of the people in their districts.

Yes I did say it will be the death of racing and it very well may be the final straw that breaks the camel's back at some tracks. That's exactly what I'm getting at. Just this year I know of at least three drivers who were planning on racing every week at MCS but changed their minds because of gas prices. When it costs $65 to $75 just to pull to some track, before you ever pay pit passes, racing fuel, and other goodies at the track, you're damn right it's going to effect the final outcome. You can conserve fuel all you want and you can buy more fuel efficient vehicles, but when you can't haul vehicles to tracks with a hybrid! As far as tracks that may fold... Just take a look at our immediate area. How many of them are on solid ground? I talk with the promoters on a weekly basis and believe me when you lose $2,000 to $7,000 a week due to dropping attendance and people not eating concessions and so forth it won't take long!

The E-85 burns twice as fast so you really aren't saving anything. I have a Taurus and have filled up with it several times from the "On the Run" in Saint Charles.

Checked the web sites - it is cheaper - but you burn it faster - not a whole lot of savings in the long run from what I can tell.

There's a guy on another post on here about the MCS fan appreciation night asking how that will be effected by just $2.50 gas prices.. I'm telling you it's going to start making a huge effect on racing immediately.

Washington has been looking to drill in the Artic for some time now. They have met a lot of opposition. What's the best way to "pursuade" people to let you drill. Tell them that our refineries can't keep up and that we have to import, then, start gouging the public at the pumps so that they scream to drill new wells. jmo

Mike

Drilling in Alaska is an option but I think we'd have more of our OWN gas and not have to import if we did not export our own gas also! As for the gas guzzler from hell vehicles somedays they are not an option. We do alot of carpooling for my daughters gymnastics friends. Yes less cars on the road but non the less when it's my turn to drive I have to have room for 6 kids. Then if you go over to Illinois any child under 8 has to have a car seat!
Throw 2 of those into the mix kinda tight ! I personally would like to have a 4cyl door banger to drive around but it is not realistic in the carpool of life world that we live in. As a mother and pump payer yes I am incensed by the whole gas gouging issues! I agree hit the local political people ! But not sure how much good that will do some of their palms are greased from the industry - hello ! . You think us Americans are greedy by the cars we drive! I drive what works for my family from hauling kids 24-7 plus hauling a boat or camper I need the big ride. But I did buy American -continue to buy American and continue to pay for the VERY RICH OIL BARRONS ! They made Billions of Dollars last year folks! BILLIONS !!!!! FREAKIN BILLIONS. I guess they are trying for Kazillions this year! Off of people like you and me. Plus look at how much they are shipping over seas! KEEP it Home ! Don't patronize me/us about being greedy ! Sometimes it about needs not wants!!! And for the record we run the window units in my car 90 percent of the time when running about town - always have and will! It's also going to effect propane and the cost of heating the house! Also the price of goods is going to go up ALOT ! The price has doubled to ship anything across the country in the last year so we are going to be paying for it in food and clothes and anything else you buy ! It's not just it s u c k s driving to work it's going to s u c k all the way down the chain! And it looks like we are at the bottom of it

Millsey and dirtgirl do have valid points. I know it cost the son a pretty penny to fill up the dually and thats what he drives to work, not just the track so his gas bill is over the top. But then again, no bank payment. Racing fuel on the other hand has been well over $4.75 a gallon all year, so its just how much your willing to pay to play.

Don't turn on the air conditioner as soon as you get back in the car. Drive for a bit with the windows down to let out the excess heat first. Once you're at highway speeds, though, driving with your windows down actually consumes more fuel than using the A/C because it creates so much aerodynamic drag.

44.00 to fill up my dakota... It's too hot to run without air, might as well burn your $$ and stay at home...
Turning off your a/c to save gas is a "MYTH" It actually uses more fuel with the windows down because of AERO DRAG...........

Don't get on George Bush and just blame him...It is your Congressman and Senators with the power to make or brake it when it comes to gas prices, too..If the president vetos a bill to help out the working man then THEY have the power to overide so just don't blame this on the president...Get on the phone and your computers and let them know how you feel. If they tell you there hands are tied, they are the ones lying through their teeth.

Momma Drew

What we need to do in this case is tell them its their last term and next election you will vote for there opponent

Slideways, you're killing me!

Please enlighten me as to how he's ACTUALLY making money off of higher prices. Show me some evidence. Are the execs at Exxon or Chevron paying him under the table? If your answer is Yes, you're freaking nuts. If you're right about W getting rich, why aren't the liberal news stations like CNN reporting that "President Bush is getting rich off of higher oil prices!"

The facts are that worldwide economic growth is strong and hence, there is a higher demand on oil. It's that whole supply-demand thing. It's funny how that works! Add in partial refinery shutdowns and so called terrorism threats and you'll get a jump in crude prices like we've had lately. In addition, hedge funds are buying crude as investments which is driving up the price.

So, you're for lower gas prices but you're telling me that you don't want to drill in Alaska because someone is going to get rich. Come on!!! We're for the most dependent on foreign sources of oil and drilling in Alaska would slightly lessen our dependence on those foreign sources.

Did you ever realize that lower taxes equals a higher growth economy which means more jobs and for the most part higher stock prices? This economy would not be where it currently is without those tax cuts.

Thanks for letting me vent!
