I-55 Tri Track Challenge Updates

Went to North Georgia back in March for an SAS race. Got to the track about 5:00p.m. Was starting to sprinkle as I pulled in to the track. Got parked and it started raining harder and continued for about 30 minutes or so, let up and then started up again. After the 2nd shower they started working on the track, mostly 4-wheel atv's. Finally, brought out a couple of packer cars that kept getting stuck. All the while the announcer kept saying they would race tonight and to call your friends and tell them to come on out. To make a long story short, the track was not coming around and several cars loaded and headed out so about 10:00p.m. they called the races. I think everyone there could see the track was not coming in so they should have called it sooner than have everyone sitting around for 5 hours.

This is terrible I can not believe what all I have read on here so far. Shame on any of us to complain about getting rained out. Every one of us knows Ray better than that. Why would Ray work his tail off all week for this event and call off the race if he didn't feel 100% that it had to be. Not to mention all the money they lost on Saturday, he hates rainout worse than any of us.
And as for Sue if your going to call her on Wednesday you better show her the full respect that she deserves. Sue is the kindess hearted woman I know and is kind as can be to everyone she comes in contact with, so she deserves the same in return.
Everyone spends a fortune on gas to get anywhere anymore but I'm not complaining about it RAY and SUE didn't make it rain for god sake.
We were all grownups who knew what the weekend was calling for long before Satuday ever got here.
And we were there until 9:00 and it rained off and on up till then and then was raining a good ways heading south. We watched the lightening and bad weather follow us over an hour south.
They all know what they are doing and do the job well thats why they own the tracks and we are the fans on the other side of the fence.

Very well said.... I kept thinking last night how I could be at the track today when Sue gets her nasty call from the nasty people... PLEASE be polite to Sue she is a first class LADY !!!! And I learned years ago with these two people Ray and Sue you treat them with RESPECT and you will recieve nothing but respect in return... That I can promise you. Sue you get names and I will kick heiney to anyone who is IGNORANT to you okay

Man, Thats awesome...... Kicking butt Dirtgirl style. Looks like we have intermission entertainment. Maybe Ray can put a ring in the insidse Pit Area so Lisa can take care of business!!!!!!

Heck, I'll pay extra to see that!

Thank god for someone else who knows the Marler family are a class act and deserve to be treated as such.
Dirtgirl I agree with you on Sue and Ray don't mess with them if you know whats good for ya.

Just want to pose this question....

Why are people assuming that because some people have a problem with the races being called a bit prematurely, that those people don't respect Sue or Ray Marler or appreciate the work they do?

99% of the posts in here never question that Ray and Sue work their butts off to put on a good show at I-55. Anyone who's been to a WoO Sprint show there knows that, straight up. However, with today's gas prices, when you have a big crowd and a big car count, sometimes you need to cater to the fans and take care of the b***hing neighbors later. If there's a condition that exists that factored into the decision (like a curfew), the fans and racers deserve to know this, because it would've definately impacted my decision to go to the races that night.

Well Moonflow some people on other post were pretty upset and commented how they would be talking to Sue. Well today she in the office and if they talked to her they way they talked on here they will need a heiney whoopin.
Have any of you ever been in the office when calls come in? I swear people are so rude and ignorant that it is so uncalled for. And some of them are just well how can I say this nicely. A fry short of a combo meal .... I have heard her take tounge lashings that I would have gone to the wood shed for.......

What I think dirtgirl is trying to say I can't speak for her because that is not my place. But I am saying that there is a lot of disrespect shown just in questioning the calls that are made weekly. They make the best call they can week to week for the circumstance at the time and to set and throw a 2 year old tantrum about it is disrespecting all of them. If we have so much respect for Ray and Sue then we would trust their call and be done with it. So if the weather looks bad for the night and Ray says we race I trust Ray because I know he would never put any of us in danger to put a dollar in his pocket. If he says we go home I trust that call and know it's best because it must not be safe for us or the drivers.
If they would have raced Sat. and lets say got half way and half the cars were torn up and had to call it anyway. This site would have been on fire with people saying how stupid it was to have even put the drivers on the track and how much money they all lost to not even get a pay check for that night. And come on people how many times has that happened on here.
As for how high gas prices goes my husband drives 2 1/2 hours one way to work and 2 1/2 hours home everyday, your not telling me anything it digs our budget to the core weekly.
And we drive over 60 miles to the race track every week one way and have for years upon years. But you know what I eat and breath racing it's the only enjoyment we allow ourselves for the year.
So I know week in and week out that it could be a long trip for nothing if mothernature has a fit on race day. But hey it was well worth the trip if it happened to spare the track and how many times have we been the only track racing that night.
It's an outdoor sport anything can and will happen.

Exactly, pevelyfan, and well said, too. If Ray Marler says his track is not fit for racing, then that's it!

Ray knows his track and he made the best call for the night. It did continue to rain and wet the track. It wasn't coming around, and would not have been a good track to race on for anyone. Let's also factor in all the people the track employs, the food already prepared for the large crowd, the big ticket sales, the number of cars....Ray had to consider all of this in his decision, and he decided that the track was not good enough to race on that night. Stop your bellyaching and face facts. Sometimes you don't get to race no matter how hard you want to....Mother Nature still rules the roost in racing.

I also can't imagine what gives people the right to call the track to complain and badmouth Sue or Ray Marler for any reason. That is just uncalled for at any time. They are more than generous in their raincheck options, so no one should be complaining at all. You can't find better people than Ray and Sue anywhere!

If dirtgirl needs any help taking care of anyone, just let me know....I'll be her back-up, although I really don't think she needs any help. You don't want to tangle with dirtgirl! ;) or Bomber Momma

With all the lightning I was seeing Sat. night, kinda makes me wonder what it would have looked like if it hit the bleachers wih all those people sitting on them ???

Why don't all of you on here complaining about the races being canceled almost a week later, take your money and go build a track and then you can make all of the calls and take all of the b*tching that comes from the fans who have no clue. Once again there is nothing you can do about that fact that it rained we can not go back to last Saturday and do it all over. Every time you go to any outside event you take the chance of it raining. Everybody knows thats. So if you don't want to take that chance move to a state that it never rains in (Good Luck), or don't go to the races when there is a chance of rain. GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!!!!

I BET THEY'D BEATCH ABOUT THAT!

RAY MARLER DID THE SAFE THING. YA' KNOW, RATHER BE SAFE THAN SORRY? I DON'T BLAME HIM FOR IT.

I TOO WAS BUMMED THAT THE SHOW DIDN'T GET TO HAPPEN. BUT HONESTLY, I'D RATHER COME BACK ANOTHER DAY AND FOR SURE GET TO SEE THE WHOLE SHOW. RATHER THAN SIT THERE HOPING THAT THE SPRINKLES AND DRIZZLE DON'T TURN INTO A GULLY WASHER. REMEMBER THE END OF THE YEAR MODIFIED SHOW A COUPLE YEARS AGO? REMEMBER HOW THEY GOT EVERYTHING IN BUT THE FEATURE AND PAID THE FEATURE OUT LIKE THEY WERE LINED UP? NOW THAT SUKED. I WOULD HAVE HATED FOR SATURDAY'S SHOW TO BE SHORTENED IN ANY MANNER. SO LIKE I SAID, RAY PLAYED IT SAFE, AND I'M GLAD HE DID.

Maybe they will get us our own golf cart. The color yellow has been taken already. Maybe something in pink with green trim of course. What do you think Debbie? :D

Why don't you just take the rent a cop's cart? It's yellow and they don't need it.:p Then you can turn on the little red & yellow lights when you need to go to the restroom.:D:D:D

Our own golf cart in pink and green! I'm likin' that idea! We could use it to go to the restroom whenever we want to, and to get ice cream drumsticks, and to check up on the guys in the pits, and to aggrevate Chip, and to go see Sue, and to pass out chocolate chip cookies when and if Jimmy ever wins a Feature at Pevely, and when we pass by the announcer's stand, we could even wave at TTG.

Yep, that's a good idea! :D

Mind you, a track can't exist with BOTH drivers AND fans. And your opinion of how fans should take their money and opinion isn't very smart. For the most part, this has been a good and open debate. I'm sure if it was truely out of line, Jimmy would've done about something.

And the question still stands. Does I-55 Raceway have a curfew?

I want to add another comment. All of you playing the lightning card, I don't buy it. I've seen much more intense storms just miss the track, with actual CG (cloud to ground) lightning, and the races not be cancelled. Let me put it this way. Two years ago, on July 19, 2006, my birthday, I was at Busch Stadium for a ballgame. A storm came pounding through the metropolitan area, with 90mph straightline winds. Lightning, wind, hail, a complete deluge. The tarp was torn, the windows in the press area were blown in, and over 1,000,000 people lost power, including myself. The stadium ran off a generator for the rest of the night. Never did they announce to evacuate the stands. Why? Because most people have the sense do take cover during inclement weather. When you go to an outdoor event, you take a risk. There are risks that the promoter of the event can control, and there are ones they cannot. A lightning strike is completely random, and isn't in anyone's control, and no one is to blame. If you do not have sense to take cover during a thunderstorm, then that's your own fault, if anything should happen. It doesn't matter if you're at a baseball game, a racetrack, or on a golf course. You have two eyes, you see what is moving in. If you need someone to tell you when to take shelter, then there's a serious problem.

Oh, and by the way, I've personally been within 200 feet of a lightning strike three times. Twice I was indoors. The closest one I was outside working on a survey, when a bolt out of the blue struck. I know when things become dangerous, and last Saturday, the risk of being struck was minimal, of what little actual risk there was.

We could sit in the back and have a driver :) Now we need to set out to get applications for the drivers position. Someone who would be at our becon call .... :)

Drivers for our golf cart....

1. Dustin (he'd be my first choice!)

2. Mike McGinnity (having him at our beck and call would be too good! Oh wait, he is now.)

3. Jack O. Pugh (he'd have to do what we say when we say it, with no lip service, ever! Oh, and he'd have to wear GREEN :D )

4. Derek Hardesty (we could eat cookies all night)

5. Bryan Collins (when he wasn't racing, but the ride might be too fast for us )

6. Mike Steube

7. dirthound (no, on second thought, no)
