late models at pevely?

Hey look Hound at all the bright Ideas kinda sounds like what I was trying to say but who listens to me? :) Never saw the reason to put a $20G motor in a race car your only going to run local. Just to win maybe $1000 if Korte don't show up and steal it from you. If you won all year you will never make enough to get your money back, if you don't break anything. A really well off and well known Mod driver told me once "What the Hel* am I doing tearing up my sht for a stupid $500 IF I win." Don't let em get to ya Hound soon enough they will price them self right out of racing and all the tracks will close.

My thoughts:

Late Models: I dont care if a track has them or not. if it is a regular night i dont watch them, not interested. i would bet dollar for dollar Randy Korte's late model isnt that much more expensive than half of the other late models at pevely, he wins because of experience and knowledge. Randy Korte got good by racing other tracks, getting seat time, and learning what to change at certain places and conditions. Most of the pevely late models have expensive stuff and only go there so they dont learn anything.

Modifieds are WAY out of hand. I cant afford them, i think at least half the guys out there cant. i have about $7500-$8000 in my engine, it is my old sportsman 414, steel heads. I decided to buy one more barrel of fuel out of my savings and if i dont get better in this new car i will park if for a while. If you arent spending a ton of money you cant do very well.

BMODS: I will / would never get into a class that is only at one local track. Fayette County is also running them, but has no support.

Bombers: When i decided to sell off my sportsman stuff, I thought about moving down, but I couldnt afford to run a bomber. Even in that class i would have to average $150 a night to break even, which would mean i would have to win about 30 features a year to do ok. and this class is getting out of hand to an extent like the modified class is. pit pass $30, race fuel $40, money for oil change $15, truck fuel $20, tire expense $25; that right there would be $130 a night to race a bomber. I think i have a better chance of winning that in a modified and dont have to deal with different rules everywhere. and by everywhere i mean (for instance) brownstown indiana, tri city, pevely, farmer city, etc

i am not sure what happened to racing, but it is burning me out. is the technology getting out of hand? i know the problem isnt the economy or gas prices, people are just finding other stuff to do. 10 years ago you didnt need a $20,000 engine.

If you all think about it for a minute and think back to the 70's & 80's you would remember that most tracks only had two classes of cars. I remember that Highland had the A Class and the B Class. I think the difference was the B Class had 2-barrel carbs. As time progressed the A Class became modifieds and the B class became sportsman. Then the street stock (or bombers) were added. The modifieds became Late Models, the sportsman became Modifieds with the street stocks now becoming fairly expensive. Certain car owners had a bottomless pit when it came to money in both the late model and modified classes and thus some drivers just couldn't afford to race in that class and other classes were formed. Fast forward to now and most tracks run anywhere from 4 to 6 classes of cars because if they ran only late models and modifieds the couldn't afford to pay the purse to get enough cars for both classes. Thus you have way too many classes of cars and the ticket prices have gone up, the concession prices have gone up and the pit passes have gone up - AND - you watch mostly follow-the-leader because the track is worn out.

The big thing about having a big money owner is the driver can go all out every night and not have to worry about tearing stuff up blowing an engine up and so on the regular guys that race for fun usually have a strong engine and a decent back up.A guy like korte can turn his stuff as hard as he see fit where the low budget guys dont.Frankie Martin comes to mind he found an issue in his oberg he had to park his car and get the engine looked at,he has one motor is he going to turn 9000 rpms I doubt it.When you buy a Pro Power they tell you you can spin em 8800 plus a weekly racer watching the bottom line isnt going to do that unless he has two or three of them laying around! How many other local teams have this luxury??

Piboss and 20 rocks hit the nail on the head. Its nuts. With the economy being stale is not helping either. Support classes are needed to pay for the top dog classes. People hate shows dragging out but its a must. More classes more money the track makes. But here is my belief. If the local tracks would dump UMP and get together to make a common set of rules withing a 150 mile radiius and make them affordable............you would see bigger car counts. Dont worry about turning 8800-9000 because now we would have a chip rule for all classes!! Lates and mods id make it 7000 tops. Heck the crate cars are turning that and they shouldnt be! Look at the specs on the motors. 5800 is peak on those cars. Id do this.......after a feature id go around looking at the tell tale tachs to see what they are turning. If its 6500-7000 there has to be something done to the motors to make them do good at that level. Has to be. Street stocks would be 6000 tops. I have heard some guys have 6000 in their engines. Ridiculous. I can buy a motor straight from jr motorsports for 3200 plus shipping and its an awesome engine. JRM CC355F4 is the part number and that motor would last forever if kept up. Heck i can build 355's all day long for 3000 - 3500. Maybe cheaper if i can get better deals on parts. Run nothing but hard tires! All classes!! I dont care if hoosier has a problem with it. Personally id tell them if you have an issue with it.....Goodyear would be happy to fill the void and probably do some butt kissing to make it work as well. Just food for thought. I would not personally dump the lates but id have a talk with them as a whole and explain to them why they need to tone it down as a class all together or they wouldnt be running at a track i ran. You have to reign in a wild horse sometimes to show it has boundaries.

Also people love a good race. I dont care if its pro 4's street stocks and heck even the cruiser cars provided some awesome races. Thats what fans love. Need brought back to the table. Big motors tear up tracks. If you could slow the cars down but make them racy boy that would help everyone.

Standing Ovation!!!!!!!......:):):)
