Man, that would be an awesome idea! Good thinking sloppy! Is that place flooded?

benton

It was in the local paper a few weeks back the lawsuit concerning Benton that had it locked down was settled and it's up for lease again to be open for 05. Somebody needs to get started on it.

Hey Fireman, Where you work, I'm a Career Firefighter for Benton Ill. Just wondering? I bet you'll have better fire protection than Mt. Vernon Speedways 4 Extinguishers. Its a joke!! You ought to call Rick Heck, He promotes Mt. Vernon and is looking for partners. They are in Mt Vernon, a city with 30 career firefighters, and have to call jefferson rural, a volunteer dept. , for fire protection, response time 8-11 min. You know what that says!! Nothing againest those guys, I hear they're good firemen, but Heck is just askin for trouble, I know of at least 2 close calls the last 5 years in which either could have been a disaster.

Call me if you want more info, my dads owned 2 tracks over the years and has some good insight.

I believe Fayette County is up for grabs....that would make a good Sunday night track. I'm not sure on the status of Greenville....they have tons of issues with Churches around those parts.

Fayette is not up for grabs ... Charlie Depew will be promoting again in 2005.

Hey all well it looks like I may have to wait for a little while unless someone has Info on the tracks off Highway 8 Benton is a little to far away for me to make a serious committment to and Godfrey and other local tracks are now taken as well, I will keep up the looking and if anyone hears anything please let me know as I really want to do something to help out racing and the best thing i can think of is to get a track up and running and make sure we keep racing strong here in the St. Louis area.

If Tri City had a descent owner/promoter that place would be awesome. A weekly UMP sunday show would draw unbelievable #'s, as long as none of the current people would be involved. Throw in some half mile shows for all classes, you'd have a heck of a show.

Kind of a blanket statement, don't you think, Corey? We have a great (and loyal) crew, and whether you like him or not, Bob Wente is an awesome promoter. Can you think of any other track owner around here that makes his entire living through his race track?

Not every track has the facilities or money to bring in some of the big series that Wente can. I seriously doubt he makes all that much $ off his weekly show, and if he does, it would only be off of pit pass revenue, because I can't recall any regular show this year that drew anywhere near the crowds seen at TCS say 10,15, or 20 years ago.

That said, he does have a decent weekly program, if only they would fix the lights, scoreboard, and chop about 10-12 minutes off of the typical marathon intermissions.

Does that mean he is a good promoter???

Yes. To have survived as a promoter since the mid-80's (and over a decade at TCS), he is apparently doing many things well.

He does something very well, gives people a reason to never come back. Name 10 guys who have raced in this area for the last ten years that havn't raced at TCS for a season, I can name hundreds who have, and the answer every single one gives for never going back is Bob Wente. The only reason he is able to field a class of cars each year is because the track is second to none. Before the season I talked to talked to him about qualifying to cut down on some of the carnage, he basically told me, I didn't know what the hell I was talking about, and people like to see wrecks. Honestly he is the reason I had no desire to race this year, it's the most convienient location, 5 minutes from my work, and the tackiest track anywhere, wide, no walls, but because of his attitude I didn't want to bother. So next year I will drive right past TCS and continue an hour and a half to Montgomery. Ad me to the list, I might go back for the Sunday shows, but will never call it home again. There are some quality people involved, but the one who matters and his puppet aren't worth a damn.

all i can say is corey has a good point and pretty much hit the nail right on the head..i too was gonna run tcs a few times but due to all the things i hear about the track i wont bring myself to do it..i have alot of freinds that ran tcs, corey being one...as a promotor you gotta listen to the two poeple that matter most..the fans and the racers...if you dont make both happy, well dont plan on lasting long..wente is lucky that is the only reason he has lasted as long as he has..the show at tcs 10 years ago would blow the shows today outta the water, that was before wente got a big head...

racer94, secondhand stories aren't always a true reflection of what they claim to be the gospel.

CC-28..not to be an informer..but you guys keep repeatedley coming back..over..and over..and over. So...its not that bad. True..bob can be a harsh guy to talk to..but..business side..he has made a decent living..at running a race track 24-7. Name 1 guy..who does that? I hear..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................nuttin. And we still waiting on the names.
