just out of curriosity.....if someone were to promote and open Bond Co. raceway in greenville ill. should it be saturday or sunday?....and what classes do you think should run there on a weekly basis?.....not starting a rumour.....no i have no idea if it is going to happen....im just wondering what everyone thinks.......also who all would be interested in attending the races there/ race there......want to see id there would be a decent car count.....

Well..first off i think definite would be street stocks. Good class for there. Second.......sportsman or b mods!! Yea...i said it. Give them a place to run. Third..........hornets. Beginner class and give them a place to run and good gate money. Toss between mods and lates.............id say A mods over lates just because the lates have so many places to go.......alot run for points and like to go to bigger and faster tracks. Good idea.......ive always wondered why greenville never came back. The track was rutty alot and that would need looked into as to why it was that.

A-Mods ($750, $100 start)
B-Mods ($400, $75 start)
Crates ($550, $80 start)
Street Stocks ($300, $50 start)
4-Cylinder ($150, $25 start)

Sunday nights...combine points with Highland for all classes minus B-Mods.

The last time I raced there there was no one showing up in the stands,, car count was good,,, but they always had to fight with bond county officials over this and that, track was never any good bumpy as heck every week,, there fair board had their hand in it also,, no body could come up with a happy medium so the fair board closed it up,,,This was back in 04 or 05 I think,,,Thats what happened I knew the guy that did track prep, he lives down the road from the track his name is Larry something cant think of his last name right now,, Doug Jenkins buddy the big guy on his talk show Tim Herburst (sp) tried running it but it all fell though, they tried to run 6 shows every other week,,,

sounds like a good idea worked up there one year when the fergusons were running the track with the other crate lates

Given that Highland and Flora run Saturday night Sunday would probably have a better chance of drawing decent car counts. If Shepp’s runs Sundays again next year I would think the impact on Greenville would be marginal given the distance. The question is can you draw fans on Sunday?

we'd sure give it a shot

we always ran there before..... they ran on sundays and pulled between highland and brownstown.... not a bad surface...... the big time mods never really showed up.....but the hornets will be there..... sunday night was the only night that ever really worked for them.... you wouldnt want to compete with highland or brownstown........ who ever picks it up is ganna have to be a bit political and make friends........ ganna have to figure out how to bridge the street stocks between highland and brownstown those rules are quite different but they would need cars from both tracks to show up...... I think the hornets are quite different as well.....but the sportmans would love to have another place to race and I think this could be a great oppertunity for them....don"t try to create a class right away..... pull from cars in the area that are already built..... I do know they didn"t get alot of support from the comunity, and that I think was ultimatly thier demise..... anyway good luck and keep me posted..... one more thought the brownstown cars would proboly have to change gears to race.... i dont know if that makes any difference,,, but it could become a factor in car count esp. in july and august when it"s scorching hot............

what about midgets, run them when the poweri isnt racing that weekend, nowhere weekly to run and there are quite a few cars in this area

as far as bmods i think if you got the word out soon enough you would be pleasently suprised on the car count steel headed 355 2 barrel carb or 602

thats what I was thinking was they couldn`t bring any beer onto the grounds. I know we raced our modified there back in 96 and there would only be like 6 or 8 people in the stands. Not sure why there wasn`t anyone there but I remember when Rodney Webb ran it there just wasn`t any people ever showing up. It was a good track and alot of fun to race at.

Sundays sound good but wasn't beer one of the big issues with fan support at Greenville?

I agree. Start small...do not need a1 class running. B mods...street stocks and hornets. Keep purses down and let the business build itself once again. Being a dry county is a minus............to me i dont need to drink to watch racing........especially if its a good show. Id be up for being an official as well. Turn worker...........line up....whatever is needed. Depends on the night though........sundays would be rough for me. Friday would be perfect.

ok here is what i have found out so far.......1. the city of greenville recended it's "dry" status in 2008 so beer might not be an issue anymore

2. from what i was told by a previous promoter, the board would only let you run a total of six nights and one of the nights had to be during the county fair week.

3 the track is real sandy and goes away quickly when high powered engines run on it.....ie; ( it gets rutty ).

4. they have a water truck and access to water.... but.... there is no track maintenance equipment ie; ( no sheeps foot, grader, or tiller )... so equipment would have to be rented, purchased, loaned, etc....

5. there is no consession stand..... so food would have to be grilled and limited to certain kinds like good old fashioned bbq and chips or something of that nature......

6. there are a lot of " old minded " citizens in greenville that dont like all the noise especially every week through the season....

7. there are no scales there that i know of......

8. it would take at least 100 cars a night to make things go smoothly.......

does anyone think it is possible?

I am however still trying to contact key individuals in the city of greenville to get answers straight from the members of the board.......

if those of you out there would like to race there again and happen to know someone with a business who would like to help sponsor the track by donating any of the equipment needed please find out and send me a private message and let me know, or if the just want to help out and get their name out there and advertise the can sponsor a class every week...........ideally before speaking to the board everything should be in place so that no one has to rush around and find things to get the season started.......also would have to find traack crew, flagman, scorers, cooks, gate personel, and especially racers and fans.......not to mention radios for track crew......

would also have to find a fuel supplier and a parts trailer to be present.....

keep the purse low??

pay them and they will come.....your best hope is to pay good and never cut it......things are hard on the racers wallet.......so the first thing they will look at is the payout...........and the first time you cut it........your shooting yourself in the foot............thats the bottom line......i dont know how to tell you to do that........but.......there ya go.......

sportsman, streetstocks, and hornets............get ump sanctioning for what you can.......sundays is your best chance.........ump mods on special shows every now and then.....pay good and they will show up on a sunday esp. the mods........dont bother with bmods........you've got enough challanges ahead of you.......dont need to try to create a new class on top of it............the place has a shot it is in a good location........dont compete with any other track for cars......ie sundays.....
