Racing for Tomorrow at Belle-Clair Speedway is Canceled! Kettler & Son's Night is rescheduled for Au

WOW!!!!!! Lived in phoenix ARIZONA ,for 22 years raced at MANZANITA speedway off and on for about half that time, probably 4-months out of our season it was well over 100 degrees. In 22 years that iI know of never a cancellation, no complaints we just raced, and the fans came cause the racing was good and the beeer was cold. yeeeee haaaa. lets go racing boyz

This is stupid...

If the weather hadn't changed... and he would have raced... you all would be *****ing about that as well.

It's pretty simple... Don made a call to cancel the show when ALL indications had pointed to it being unsafe to have an event.

This is serious stuff people. 24 people have lost their lives so far due to this heat wave.

I commend Don for having the courage to look out for the fans, drivers and crews safety. Sure, he was also looking at the FACT that if it would have stayed hot... the chances of putting enough butts in the stand to meet the purse would have been extremely difficult to do. It is a business folks.

Name any other event that costs the same for you to go to today as it did ten years ago. You can't go to the movies, a ball game, bowling or anything else for the same price that it cost ten years ago. Yet, the gate at the race track has been the same! The promoters know (based off of what other tracks have tried) that there is only a certain amount that people will pay to get in... and yet the track will still be able to meet the purse.

THAT is what kills other tracks! They don't have the financial brain power to run it as a business and they end up failing. Don is not in this to get rich... and no race track promoter has EVER gotten rich owning a race track... but he sure as heck isn't in it to lose money either.

If he hadn't cancelled... and the weather would have been triple digits again... and people were injured from falling due to heat exhaustion or whatever... you all would be saying "he should of cancelled."

He made a decision in plenty of time to give you the option of making alternate plans! Kudos to him for doing so. Sure, it was probably a financial decision first... but if you all know Don... he also had the fans, drivers, crews and track workers best interest (safety) in mind as well.

Don, you have done more for that track than I have seen in the over 30 years that I have been going there. I don't get there as often as I like to anymore... but, you just keep doing what you are doing. The majority of us appreciate it!

The forecast called for cooler temperatures for today that's why Don should have waited until today to make up his mind an that cost him .

Everyone knows that a weather forecast in St. Louis is only good for about 6 hours. He should have waited til Thursday night to make a decision.

I must say Biker of all the posts/threads I've read of yours over the years this one is by far the best.
Poor Don...... Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.
I think that we as race fans in the St louis area are spoiled to have options friday and saturday night.
BC not racing?........Brownston...Tri City
Pevely under water?......Highland...MMP...Clay city..
Etc
I agree too....excellent post. Damned if you do and damned if you dont.
Maybe some posters should predict the future, and put their wallet on the line...JMO
I agree too and excellent post biker. Ones saying they ran in 100 degree heat.... Sorry we are not dealing witht he heat as phoenix and texas folk. It hasnt been this hot and this dry in 30 years! Maybe they should all come up here and show us how to heat stroke everyone. Please..........its a serious deal and to be honest we shouldnt complain about anything as they could shut everything down all together as water shortages are all over the place. What is used on a track before and during a race night.....water and lots of it! Just be happy people we have a choice to do what we want to do and when to do it.

This Drought wiil...

will cost us all next year!! Food costs are gonna skyrocket, causing people to have even less disposable income to spend on hobbies like RACING! So be prepared to pay more at the concession/beer stand, that is,if your local track will survive. SAD but TRUE,enjoy your weekend and thanks for the kind words,Adam and Michael. It's nice to know not everyone is a walkin, talkin rectum.......:D

I just heard that ptony,3abreast, and Faustfan are opening their own track runnin Friday and Saturday nights, late models payin 5000 n mods payin 2000 guaranteed if only 10 people show up. Seriously it's one Friday night don't you morons have anything else to do, do something with your kids , take your wife out to eat, or better yet simply enjoy a evening at home, maybe you guys should contact Webb promotions to run bc then you would be happy, I remember the 5 car features at bc because of dumb *** promoters!

Yeah, I was being an azz, cause my favorite track closed for no real reason, really! And I was forced to attend a track I pretty much hate, because of train racing. Got to admit though, the first time in a long time, seen some pretty darn good racing. But still, no where near the racing at Belle Claire. So hopefully in two weeks the weather will be different as for next week not looking so good. And yeah Lenny does race there. I apologize to Don, as he has done a great job with the track this year. I'm sure he knows by now he made a bone head call, but the call was already made. Can't wait till we go back to racing at the best track in the area.

Excellent post. For all of those complaining about this business decision Don made (whether it be financial, weather related or both) how about you come forward with some track sponsorship money or quit complaining. I hope Don doesn't read these negative posts...it would be depressing for him as hard as he and it's staff are working. To the whiners...step up to the plate with your money or quit complaining. Whiners...can we count you in for 5-$8,000 a week in these difficult times?

I agree, if the call was ONLY weather related the call was made pretty early.

I am not sure how it is now, but it used to be that the insurance for the night had to be paid 24hrs prior to the event. The policy was based off the prior week's attendance and this week's anticipated attendance. This amount was non-refundable and could not be applied to the following week if the races were cancelled.

If it is still that way today, then Don did NOT cancel early. He made a business decision based off the information that was known at the time.

Keep in mind that food orders and stuff would have also had to have been placed. Alot of this stuff cannot be saved for the following week... Week old buns and bread... And whatever else would never fly... Not even with the dirty greasy fingers of a race fan, driver or crew member.

It is what it is folks... It's done! No amount of arguing or b!thching about it is going to change it.

Just move on and be there to support the track when they do race!

None of you can dispute that what Don has done with the place in this short amount of time that he's been there is just short of remarkable! He completely overhauled the crappy concessions... He runs a good show... The extra promotional stuff and giveaways... Just a real class act!

I am sure there is more good stuff to come... But in order to do so, he has to make smart decisions in the mean time... Some work... Some don't! But at least the guy is trying!

28jracer.......i agree and its been that way for years. Plus you have the medical attendants you need to let know as well as stocking the concessions plus security. its not easy as flipping a light switch off or on. I wouldnt want to trade shoes with any race track owner as it seems no matter what you do or say..........you have 100 armchair quarterbacks saying you did the wrong thing. Quincy called off Sun.......anyone dogging that track yet?
