Smoking Ban Jan 1,2007

Smoking ban losses

Kingeddy this is probally only a small percentage of bussinesses closed because of the ban at least the ones that reported it to the site . Sure CA started it in 1998 and I'm sure it does not affect it 10 years later. But the point your missing is it closed quite a few places. The reason I put the link up here is to show it does affect bussinesses. We really don't need anymore unemployment here . I really didn't put them there for you to argue about it. Make Comments like well that was 10 years ago and this is now . Is that all you like to do is argue and dissagree with someone that has other opinions just cause you don't smoke ? What if they took away something away you would disagree with? Boy I would like to hear you then . You know everyone should be able to express there own opinion without someone like you tearing them apart with your internet research and calling them stupid in your own way of doing it. The second link I put up is kinda crazy but makes for interesting reading . You put ( Stop smoking state wide and they can't "city hop" .) are you serous people shouldn't have a choice ? I really can't believe you and others think that way. So people should be told where to eat and buy there gas and everything else? olny thing that comes to mind on that one is WOW !!!!!!!!! I don't believe I will comment on this anymore . By putting up links was to make interesting reading thats all not to upset you or make you reply in defense of the ban by now we all know your for it.

CA has had the state wide smoking ban since Jan. 1998. I'm sorry but I do not believe that restaraunts and bars are still closing their doors 10 years later as a direct result of the ban.

Not sure about the other states and Canada. But if their bans are not state wide your not comparing apples to apples. Sure smoking patrons will go to restaraunts in neighboring cities that allow smoking if given the choice. Stop smoking state wide and they can't "city hop".

Who ever wrote that article on the encyclopedia website is definately a disciple of Alex Jones and Ron Paul.

As a former smoker for over 25 years I am impartial regarding the ban.

This was a post I made very early on in this thread (post #24). Me liking to argue. Not really. The queen, now she likes to argue.

The thing I have a problem with, and always has been is this: People making obsurd, ludicris, senseless comments without having grounds or factual information to back it up. Like this one from you: "the ban, by now we all know your for it."

In my opinion, a state wide smoking ban is not going to harm an existing profitable restaraunts to the extent that they must close. Short term, most likely it will be painful for them. Do I have facts to back it up? Nope. But I do know this. Someone (I think bolo) said 1 restaraunt has already closed due to the ban. Well the smoking ban is only two weeks old. If you close your business due to a smoking ban that is only two weeks old, you either 1. had a bad business to begin with and would have closed anyway, or 2. you are just plain stupid.

People can and will do without a cigarette for the 30-60 minutes it takes to dine. 65% of the population goes to church on Sundays for their religous upliftings, and they don't smoke at the alter, during offering, or in communion line. I highly doubt that this obese nation of ours is going to do without their slab of ribs, or seafood platter simply because they will be to miserable to tolerate not lighting up between the time they place their order and when their food arrives.

As far as the "city hop" comment..What I was trying to say is, If the ban is state wide, it is more fair to the restaraunts. This way people would not leave the Belleville Dennys, and drive to the Collinsville Denny's just so they could smoke.

Sorry if I put a burr in your britches.

Wow

I didn't make the pic just found it on the net . I'm not comparing anything thought it was funny. This is what I mean people take this stuff and .... well it really isn't worth explaining I just posted a couple links and a pic I found and WOW .

Let me first apologize....however, if you are comparing the smoking ban to the holocaust and naziism....you don't have a clue and this thread needs to end because it has gone so far over the top.

Sorry KING next time I'll pm you and see if the post is ok to put up . Last post from me . You put that people can and will do without cig for dining how do you know . King you must know everything very sorry to doubt you and sorry for posting on your thread wasn't trying to offend anyone .

Sorry, we didn't take our Mydol today.

1. Because I've done it. I was a smoker for 25 years. (see post #24) Smoke free for 6 years now. And do you really believe that all smokers in IL will never go out to eat again?

2. No, I don't know everything, but will gladly tell others when they don't, especially when they are trying to spread propogand that has no backbone.

LIKE I'VE SAID BEFORE, BANNING SMOKING DOESN'T BOTHER ME IN RESTAURANTS OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER, EXCEPT FOR BARS AND CLUBS. TO ME THOSE ARE AN ADULT ATMOSPHERE WITH NO CHILDREN THERE BEING FORCED TO BE THERE. EVERYONE IS OR SHOULD BE AN ADULT AND IS THERE BY THEIR CHOICE.

YEAH, I KNOW NON SMOKERS WOULD RATHER BE ABLE TO GO AND NOT SMELL IT. BUT, OH WELL, GIVE THE SMOKERS SOME PLACE. IF YOU ARE IN THESE TYPES OF PLACES ENOUGH TO CONTRACT SOME DEADLY DISEASE, YOU PROBABLY HAVE BIGGER ISSUES TO WORRY ABOUT. JMO

Met with a friend last Friday night in Arnold. We just wanted to hang out and have a few brews and catch up. She partakes in smoking as well as I do. So we blew off the restuarants and went to :

ARNOLD BOWL and we had a very nice time we drank and smoked. We were really good for the Arnold economy :D

There is still places inArnold and the bar in Arnold Bowl was perfect . And Patti Richards is and EXCELLENT bartender :)

Any help please

Hailey and I are going to Chicago in Feb for a gymnastics comp. I am needing to know some answers on this subject.

Are you allowed to smoke outside walking down the sidewalks?
I know 2 yers ago when we went there 15 feet from the building puts you in the middle of the street. Is there a smoking lane? Or can you get introuble for smoking while walking within 15 feet from the building? Or does it have to do with 15 feet from an intrance? You are no way 15 from a building when you are on a sidewalk... We walk about 90 percent of the time. 15-20 blocks at a time just curious if I need to take bail money or what? Real information would be helpful... Hate to use my kids lunch money to get out of jail... :(
Any help would be appreciated....
Lisa

I know you are being real about the question Lisa...But a smoking lane...LMAO!!!!!

That does bring up a valid question though..The sidewalks are not anywhere near 15 feet away from the door...SO.....How anal will the "Smoking Police" be...?????

In essence you could be taking a stroll with your "Cig" You know, quality time, enjoying the outdoors..Then BAM....Busted for being to close to the door...That could just put a damper on your day..

I can see the orange cones going up as we speak...LOL

Good question...

Now just a darn tootin minute Linda. You know I'm the only one who can determine what a valid question is!!!!!!! :):D

king

Finally....!!!!!!!!!!!

Linda - 1
King - 0

But whos really keeping score???!!!...LMAO!!!

Still waiting on lunch..Did you think I was kidding????

Way to go Linda----

Hey King I am 3 and you are zero go back and correct it. Never recieved our chicken so you lose points.

Now answer or research my valid question and get back with it around Monday when I get back on this merry go round :D

Linda I know it would be terrible to get busted for minding my own business then boom. Ask any AARA official how ugly it can get when I am MAD LOL!!!!!!
